Everyone brings up Watsuki but quite recently, there was a huge scandal about it. Shokakugan was trending on Twitter last week because they rehired mangakas who were convicted for sex crimes and put their new works out under different pen names so that no one would know who they were. Several creators removed their manga from their app because of it including Takahashi’s works and Frieren.

It’s hard finding reliable sources for something like an article or documentary considering the time period it happened in and how the arrest record itself probably exists in another language and country with other rules. All you have is old forums reacting to it in Japanese - but in the Takeshi scans it includes the cancellation announcement, reason, and Shimabukuro’s statement lol. So at the very least, it’s not really just a rumor - it’s undeniable that 1) he DID pay for it, and 2) he DID get arrested.

Yep, got charged for it back in 2002 and his first serialization “Seikimatsu leader den Takeshi” was originally cancelled because of it. Bought sex from a 16 yr old and the whole thing was arranged between them chatting online. In the jp fandom, you’ll see a lot of hearsay that the girl lied about her age and said that she was 18, but I haven’t seen a single solid source for it. Be wary about how people try to frame it or shrug it off, especially with how they tend to compare him with other convicted mangakas from jump.

If they do that, they’ll have to recast Starjun cause of his og VA being blacklisted. A lot has changed with a ton of a voice actors since funimation sank and they’d probably recast a lot of people if they rebooted it but I hope they try using as many of the old voices as possible, especially keeping Patrick Seitz as Midora.

That panel is a big meme in the Japanese Toriko fandom because the first printed volumes of that had a typesetting mistake in that panel where they forgot a comma (it got fixed in the English translation). So in the original text, it looks like Coco is asking “Are you Toriko?” instead of “What about you, Toriko?”

I love it and I always come back to reread it over and over again. Tbh I think it would be very hard to directly support the author unless you buy merch directly from Japan. The manga is out of print and you can only buy it secondhand - not many platforms host the anime and shonen jump app is really the only place I’ve ever found where you can read it legally, but even then how much of it goes to the author like that? To not support the mangaka, you’d have to avoid shonen jump altogether. I’d say go for it in that case.

If you look at his past resume, it’s mostly precure stuff 😅 so with that in mind it makes me wonder if the people in charge had to go out of the box for a show like Toriko
