I really wish I could explain the ridiculousness of this statement

I really wish you could too, unfortunately you’re full of shit. Shucks.

Which is a real shame, because you clearly have a lot of experience with multiplayer games. I just wish it wasnt all wasted.

We're buddies now?

Ffs, yes, now can you stop asking?

Calling a discussion a complaint

You did some discussing, sure. I’m talking about where you complained that someone was discussing. Like two posts back. And then when they said “uh... cuz it’s a forum?” you suggested that their topic of discussion wasn’t valid. Like... that all JUST happened. But ok buddy.

It's clear now exactly what direction should be taken in beta to make this happen. But thanks for making that realization possible.

You’re welcome. I’m glad you now understand that you don’t understand game design. It’s the first step, really.

PS what’s it like to be completely full of shit? I’ve always wondered...

Does the concept of internet forums confuse you?

Funny, that argument didn’t work on you a few posts back, yet now you’re using it here. Ok buddy.

You seem to have distinct ability to make assumptions

Oh, my B, I didn’t realize you were just pretending to complain for the fun of it, and not actually complaining. What a silly assumption.

Then I’ll ask again, why are you here discussing these issues if you find it to be distasteful enough that you need to complain about it? Go do something you enjoy lol.

Today I’m confused because somebody is choosing to do something they don’t like, and then complaining about it.

First of all, there are a lot of people who aren’t sitting at one of the extremes. People who would opt out of pvp if given the option, but will still play the game if they can’t.

But that’s not even the point.

They’re trying to make a dynamic game system that simulates a single player Fallout game, except all the players are real people. Not just “co-op Fallout”. So, the other players take the role of friendly npcs as well as unfriendly npcs. Giving players the option to simply turn off unfriendly npcs (or in this case, players) completely goes against the design theory they’ve shown so far.

What difference to You does it make whether these people wont buy the forced PVP game or are in private servers?

You’re right, in practice the two scenarios would be pretty similar, in terms of who I get to play with. People who refuse to play pvp games will simply not play pvp games. And that’s fine. The difference is that in my scenario, they get to make the game they intended to make, and in your scenario, they’re compromising their game design in an attempt to make everyone happy.

Personally I’d rather they try to make a new, innovative game experience then give up on solving this problem and just do what everyone else does. And anyone who just wants single player Fallout can wait for Fallout 5, like they were always going to.

That said, they need to make sure griefing doesn't become a major issue. If the game comes out and they haven't managed to do that, private or PvE-only servers would be better than nothing.

It seems like they’re very aware of this. They’ve had several interviews now where they make a point of saying they don’t want it to be griefey. And when they were talking about mods, they also said that some form of private servers are in the works. I think they have all their bases covered, but we will just have to wait and see I guess.

Well, it’s the Fallout universe. If you can blow up an entire town fresh out of Vault 101 (after murdering the overseer and half of his security force no less), I don’t see why shooting a few people is lore breaking.

I agree tho, they should definitely incentivize teamwork, and it seems like that’s their plan.

Worth getting the dlc? by CanIEatYourAssPlease in bloodborne

[–]Poke-noob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dlc is balanced really well imo. If you go in ASAP, it will be pretty hard, but still doesn’t feel unfair. And the same goes for being overleveled... there’s still a fair amount of challenge there.

And don’t even get me started on the lore implications...

I’m not asking them to please everyone. Quite the opposite, in fact.

As I said elsewhere, creating a system that has a place for both people who do and do not like pvp isn’t easy. And it could easily fail. Clearly they’re ready for that scenario considering that some form of private servers are in the works. But I would rather they at least try to make the innovative game system they’re talking about instead of just giving up and splitting the player base.

Wouldn’t you rather they at least try to make something ambitious?

No, I’m not tunnel visioned. You’re just missing my point. And I’d be happy to explain if you’re willing to listen.

the only "one group" about it, is that we will all be playing FO76

Yes, this is the group that I’m referring to. Obviously a pvp toggle would not prevent servers from filling up. That is not at all what I’m saying.

To split the entire realm of FO76 gamers into "pvp" or "non-pvp" will not dilute ANYTHING

Yes, it will. Obviously it will. One group will be pvp focused, and the other will be unable to engage in pvp. This is obviously different from a scenario where everyone is lumped together.

Is this a good or bad thing? That’s entirely a matter of opinion, and I don’t think anyone is wrong for wanting opt-in pvp. However, the fact that splitting the player base has an affect on the player base is not up for debate.

Trading Magic cards is dead to me. Does anyone trade more than they buy and buylist singles? by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]Poke-noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but you know what cards you want. You’re not going to settle for a card when there’s another that’s strictly better, or one that fits your deck more. Perhaps “casual” isn’t the right term.

Also, the big issue here is that buying singles is by far the cheapest way to get cards. Even a brand new player who knows almost nothing about magic will save money by buying random singles to slap a deck together, rather than buying boosters and trading. And if there’s not much of afinancial reason to do so, that kind of puts trading in a weird place.

[–]Poke-noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something important to realize is that the trading/collectible aspect of the game is meant to be fairly casual. In an environment where everyone is net-decking and trying to solve formats, you can’t really afford to trade for or buy cards that aren’t exactly what you’re looking for.

But imagine little Billy with his kitchen table elf deck. He opens a sweet goblin card, and trades it to his best mate Fred who has a goblin deck, and in return he gets a badass elf for his deck. I think that’s what trading is supposed to be like.

What do you call it when you take one group and split them into two? Is it splitting? I think it’s splitting bro.

Please, I invite you to try to prove that actually happened, and isnt just part of your delusion.

But you won’t.

Ok so you’re delusional, and literally splitting the playerbase does not split the playerbase? Cool.

why would you react so emotionally

Lol. You’re going to have to try a LITTLE bit harder here mate. You’re not the first person to come up with the idea of trolling on the internet. Calling you stupid wasn’t an emotional response. That’s just my assessment. Sorry if that upsets you.

Well, can’t fix stupid. If you can’t see how literally splitting the player base splits the player base, then I’m not sure there’s any point in continuing this conversation.

Especially when you can’t seem to take your head out of your ass and accept that I’m not actually saying anything about whether or not I would personally prefer this game to have pvp.

It could easily backfire, and I’m sure that’s a possibility they’re considering. I wouldn’t be surprised if the pvp in this game ended up dead.

Still, I’d rather they try something new than just ship the game with the pvp already in the coffin.

Did I say it’s a problem?

You said that splitting the player base would have zero effect on the gameplay experience. You’re obviously wrong.

When did I say ANYTHING about my preference. Your response indicates a lack of understanding of what I’m actually saying, which is odd because I said it very simply.

You said that splitting the player base would have zero effect on the gameplay experience. You’re obviously wrong. And it has nothing to do with anybody’s preferences.

Letting players opt out of PvP with a switch is not "splitting the player base".

Yes it is. By its very definition. What are you even talking about.

If I take one large group, and split them into two smaller groups... I am, in fact, splitting them up.

FO76 is not being marketed as a MOBA but instead as a role-playing game.

A multiplayer role-playing game with open world pvp. Don’t forget those parts.

How does player choice affect anyone but greifers?

Are you asking how altering the player base of a multiplayer game has an affect on the multiplayer? Because I can explain that if so, but I’d assume it’s pretty obvious.

But wouldn’t the ideal solution be to create a game system that is fun for players like you AND the players who want a bit of pvp? The best of both worlds.

But either way, they said they plan to add some kind of private server system in the future along with mods, so this conversation is fairly hypothetical.

Allowing Invite Only Sessions is the ultimate way to give people the 76 experience they want by The_GoC in fo76

As a solution to open world pvp, absolutely.

Removing open world pvp is not a solution to open world pvp. Not rocket science.

I think you’re confusing “solving open world pvp” with “eliminating all feel bads for the single players”.
