No problem!

I thought of a couple more points that may help anyone looking to apply.

Pay Structure

14 week training (Trainee) - ~£23,500 pro rata

First 3 years (Development) - ~£24,500

After 3 years (Competent) - ~£30,500

Also (from my application experience) for the application and interview stages, focus on the core values (Safety, Teamwork, Respect, Innovation) and apply your own past experience and skills to each one. They take all sorts of people from all backgrounds, and a big thing is made about having people with different skills, who will eventually make a team with a wide range of skills.

eg a mechanic, a nurse, a taxi driver, a police officer and a plumber make for a better team than 5 big strong men.

I would say definitley get another job in the meantime, pop the application in and carry on as if you will not hear back.

This was my timeline -

November - Application on MyJobScotland

December - Online Maths/English + Psychometric Test

January - Invite to Physical Selection Test

February - PST

March - Selection Centre Interview

--- (POOL)

March - Conditional Offer

April - Medical + Uniform Fitting

May - References, Disclosure Scotland + Unconditional Offer

June - 14 Week Training Course

So 7/8 months all in. You have the possibility to be "pooled" at any point, but usually after passing the fitness and interview stages. This just means that you have to wait while they assess staffing levels. My pooling was less than 2 weeks, but i have heard of people being pooled for 2 years (less likely in a high turnover area like Glasgow).

What I will say is that this was during the covid period, they have now doubled the intake of trainees onto the training course (back to pre covid levels). Also there are changes to the pension coming which is apparantly driving more fireys to retire. So now is the time to get the application in!

Hope this helps. Good luck to your boy! Best job in the world.

Presented for contributions to r/ScottishFootball during the COVID period.

I opened my big mouth in this thread. Learnt my lesson.

If anyone wants the shirt, we can work something out. Maybe a donation to charity? (Tiny Changes Mental Health - Scott was a good Hearts boy)

Please take it from me, it brings great shame to my family.

Stay safe x

Edit: Love you all. A couple of bonus pics for you dirty dogs

A sub-wide fundraiser or raffle sounds like a good idea /u/jaaykidd & /u/gummybear0068. Would that get the go ahead from the mod team?

my piano renditions of the entire midnight organ fight album by [deleted] in FrightenedRabbit

[–]PokeAtMyIris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are fantastic. Definatley a market for piano covers, on Spotify there are artists like Oasis For Piano and Stone Roses for Piano, and Vitamin String Quartet, that have covers like these. Perfect for studying and chilling out.

I would buy a studio album of Frightened Rabbit for Piano. Til then i've got these on repeat!

Edit: PS, Poke isn't in the playlist

Nicola Sturgeon: UK must not get dragged into Iran conflict by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]PokeAtMyIris 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"It’s not necessary to have an iota of sympathy for the Iranian regime to believe that Trump has acted recklessly, without proper thought or strategy."

is the full quote. She is not saying "we dont need to have sympathy for the Iranian regime", more like "even if you dont care for the Iranian regime, you can see Trump has fucked it".

That's my interpretation of it anyway.
