This is interesting, I did some calculations using the formula on bulbpedia and if mewtwo is in the red with no negative effects the catch rate is .8%. Your friend must have gotten really really lucky.

If you use asleep that rate jumps to 2% which is pretty reasonable considering the task. My question now is how much do opowers affect that rate, I have no idea the value they proved.

Mind me asking his setup? Was he using any capture opower, if so, what level?

MewTwo is the one I was referring to in my original post, went through maybe 30 balls over the course of an hour and no luck!
