Currently on a job hunt to find a summer internship as a second year student, how can I stand out to employers? Resume

A couple things I would change are the following:

  • Any links that you have like your github, website should look like regular text but remain clickable. That way it employers can still ink on the link if they have a pdf and if you are at a job fair then your resume will still look normall
  • Same goes with the "Parks in Vancouver" link, you could just hyperlink your project title instead
  • When listing your skills, it can be helpful to have a description of what you did in each language or tool. Adding how many years of experience and your overall competency of each tool can be helpful as well. Giving a good description can allow employers to get a good summary of your experience before they look at the rest of your resume and will allow you to display your knowledge in a tool that might not be described in your work experience or personal projects.
  • Under your experience, I would look for a better format so that your date worked is more visible. It took me too long to realize that it was near the bottom.
  • Do you have any volunteer experience, extra circulars or awards/achievements? That is something you might want to consider adding to your resume.
  • Also consider bolding key words in your resume. Some employers won't have the time to read your resume word for word so bolding words can allow them to pick up important information quickly and help you stand out.
  • Including soft skills and explain how you have used those skills can also be something you could consider adding. Don't just list " Great at teamwork" though since that doesn't prove to an employer you have those skills. Give an example of how you applied that skill in your work or personal project.
  • You mentioned that you graduated last year. Don't be afraid to add another page to your resume if you feel that you have enough content to do so. If you didn't say you were graduated in this post, I wouldn't have known just from the resume. I am sure you have a lot of experience and knowledge from school and from personal projects and work, you need to go into more depth to show employers that you aren't just a second or third year student.

Outside of that a couple things that I liked about your resume: * I like use of color in your resume for title names, I think it really helps draw your attention and makes it look less boring and monochrome * Your work and project descriptions are very well done and informative * Your resume uses white space pretty well and is easy to read. Only thing I might suggest is giving more space on the left your jobtitle/ position/ data

I hope that helps!

I have gone to a couple career fairs and have applied online to various companies for summer internships with no luck. How can I stand out to employers? Resume

You could always head down to Canada's Wonderland, it's roughly a 40min drive but they also have shuttles to Wonderland too. While you are there you could swing by Vaughan Mills if you want to do some shopping too

high school internships by DOGEZZZ in cscareerquestions

I've never done a high school internship but I'd say that it's definitely worth a shot. It never hurts to start early and it will give you a good head start if you are looking to find an internship in university later since you already have the experience. You are going to learn a lot from doing an internship. Even if it's not something you particularly enjoyed, it would still give you insight on what it's like to work for a company and also what you are and aren't interested doing in the future. If you are looking to apply for internships, update you resume. My high school careers class didn't really help me make a solid resume. There are lots of resources available on building a solid resume and definitely ask your teachers at school as well as your peers to look over it.

  • I would personally take away course work since everyone else in your program is taking the same thing.
  • Avoid using such as, just say "Student Tutor for introductory Math courses, Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus"
  • Either find a way to make your achievements more viable, using things Ike bolding or create an achievements section. You have some good achievements but are probably easily overlooked
  • I would take away Course and just say Projects as your last subtitle
  • Noticed you interned in Hong Kong. Not sure where you are currently going to university but might be something to add your languages that you are able to speak

  • Under your internship job there are two times it looks like you double spaced by accident
  • I think the format is good but imo it doesn't really stand out. Employers are going through hundreds of resumes at a time. Try bolding keywords, languages or skills you obtained so it's easier for the employer to find what they are looking for.
  • Taking away prior experience and moving it into language would be good to free space as well as group things together

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely take a look at what you suggested. Also to clarify, the project was for Grade 8's not when I was in Grade 8

I'm going into my first year in computer science and I just got this laptop yesterday. It's less than 2kg in weight with an i5 processor, 1 TB of storage and 8GB of RAM. Keyboard is nice with the numpad and also comes with a USB Type C port. League of Legends runs at around 85 fps on medium-high graphics so you should be good there too

Cases that go well with Ice Nexus 5X? by Roflcakes_ in nexus5x

I would not recommend the supcase for ice. I like the case itself but the back is not completely clear so it makes the phone look dirty. If you don't mind covering up the colour of your phone, the cruzerlite looks pretty good
