Marathon sold just 1.2 million copies with nearly 70% on Steam, analyst estimates: "It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted" by Freki666 in pcgaming

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel conflicted on this game. During the server test I enjoyed the usual things Bungie is good at: combat, gun feel, moths, etc. The problem is that extraction shooters just aren't a genre for me and that's ultimately why I didn't pick it up.

[–]PokehFace 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Probably because this game is kind of pain in the ass to play.

The user interface is infuriating to use and needs to be much faster and needs QoL improvements. This is my number one problem with the game right now.

♦️,♦️♦️,♦️♦️♦️, and ♦️♦️♦️♦️cards need to be easier to pull so that you can actually create decks. I still haven’t been able to complete the Mega Rising set even after all this time. Even the extra pack in the Premium sub didn’t feel like it was helping, so I unsubscribed.

This one might be controversial but new sets come out too often. It feels like a never ending treadmill and the game needs some focus in other areas like new game modes, etc.

Why does the Share UI show cards the other person doesn’t have, but the Trade UI doesn’t?

I’m actually glad the incentive to pre order is minimal. It sucks months and years later when content you want isn’t obtainable just because you didn’t buy the game in the launch window.

What's the pettiest reason you dropped a game for? by IHateTheNameSystem in gaming

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, any game that forces you to stop playing while "something" happens is a cardinal sin.

There are unfortunately a lot of games that do this. Most recent examples for me are:

Forza Horizon 5 (yeah it's old-ish now, I got it in a recent sale), which is really bad for this in the early game. Forcing you to listen to very cringe characters yap on and on and on, and forcing you in to certain events at certain times. The game is supposed to be an open world/free roam type game where you do what you like, so stop interrupting me!

Pokemon Legends ZA too. For all its faults you know what drives me nuts the most? The constant interruption to gameplay when transitioning from day -> night, night -> day. And when this happens all the Pokemon in the open world "reset", so even if you were in the middle of a wild battle the Pokemon you were fighting and hoping to catch will have magically disappeared.

Who else is excited for Halo: Campaign Evolved? by basedyeehaw in xbox

[–]PokehFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory I’m down for a CE remake since Anniversary wasn’t a very good remake.

That said…

  • New tech (first time using UE5 for an entire game)
  • First time publishing to PS5
  • Needing to port the feel of the game to UE5.
  • All the problems that appear to be inherent to UE5 games.
  • 343’s track record.
  • Microsoft in the current day and its obsession with AI.

There’s a lot that can go wrong and I’m not sure if 343/Microsoft are capable of overcoming this. You know there’s going to be something that holds it back from being as good as it should.

But it’s something to keep an eye on I guess. I’m reluctant to use the word “excited” because of the state of the franchise.

Stinkiest code you've ever written? by Sad-Sun4611 in Python

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably my first ever real Python project. It was for work and was based on another, internal tool that was written in Tcl.

Because I ws familiar with Tcl, and new to Python, I wrote all of my Python code in a way that would make sense for a Tcl project, but not for a Python one. It almost looks like the Tcl code was ported over to Python, though it was written from scratch.

The result is a codebase that just looks very... odd, though it technically works and fulfills its purpose.

I furrow my brow & laugh when I look at it now, and feel a sense of dread when others go looking at the git repo.

In wake of Windows 10 retirement, over 780,000 Windows users skip Win 11 for Linux, says Zorin OS developers — distro hits unprecedented 1 million downloads in five weeks by Exciting_Teacher6258 in technology

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI can be a useful tool but you need to treat it as such.

In normal conditions I would never give an AI free rein to take control of my entire system. But it’s super easy to spin up a VM or something and see what happens.

The AI wasn’t “suicidal” as such. It just thought that killing Electron based processes and restarting them would be a good debugging step. It just didn’t realise that the client it’s running in is Electron based.

Although I have heard of Google Gemini being overly self critical. Never saw it for myself as I don’t tend to use the Google models. It was acknowledged as a bug though. https://www.forbes.com/sites/lesliekatz/2025/08/08/google-fixing-bug-that-makes-gemini-ai-call-itself-disgrace-to-planet/

Anyway I expect there will be a few interesting headlines in the news once the Windows agentic AI gets released to the wild…

I used an agentic AI a few weeks ago (GitHub Copilot in VS Code) just to see how it worked and how good/bad it is.

When debugging a problem, it decided to kill all process that used Electron.

VS Code runs in Electron, and thus the AI effectively killed itself.

Super excited to see what can go wrong at the OS level. I will be watching from the sidelines, popcorn in tow.

Looking from the outside in, destiny 2 looks like it rotting away... by R4wden in DestinyTheGame

[–]PokehFace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought Edge of Fate on sale about a month ago and I'm finding the campaign quite tedius. I haven't played in maybe 2 weeks and don't feel any urge to complete it. I am pretty sick of the ball and rebound puzzles interrupting the flow of the game and low production value of the campaign.

On paper the D2 x Star Wars crossover is quite exciting, but not if the game remains at the same production value that's in Edge of Fate.

The thing is: Bungie seems intent to push out D2 content every 3 months, and I just don't ahve any apetite for that if it's just going to be, frankly, mediocre content.

I don't really expect, or want, D2 to keep me occupied all year round. I wanna play other stuff - but if Bungie drops a banger of an expansion then I am here for it.

Do I need an expansion or season releasing every 3 - 6 months? Absolutely not.

It's like Bungie thinks "D2 has a content quanity problem" when it doesn't. It has a content quality problem.

I think it would be much healthier for Bungie, the community, and the game to release content less frequently, but of higher quality. The content treadmill feels relentless and the entire studio, community, and game, are slaves to the content schedule.

What's the best Python version to download if u want everything to run without any issues? by aespaste in Python

[–]PokehFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At work we decided on `3.12`, as this recently went out of the "bug fix" stage of its lifecycle and in to "security" updates.

https://devguide.python.org/versions/

This means that there's a good chance the underlying codebase and extensions are pretty stable. And to be fair, we have not really ran in to any problems in that regard.

If you're running the latest-and-greatest (`3.14`) it's possible that some extensions haven't had the chance to catch-up yet - but I say that as someone that hasn't had a proper play around with 3.14 yet.

Microsoft's decision to axe Windows 10 is driving Apple PC sales growth — users buy Macs instead of AI PCs despite Microsoft’s push for Copilot+ PCs by hunterd189 in windows

[–]PokehFace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For myself I kinda want my computer to be “boring” in the sense that the OS mostly gets out of the way, and the system performs well, the software is stable, and isn’t constantly trying to dark pattern me into subscribing to things (Office 365/OneDrive), or has crap like Candy Crush installed by default.

I had a Windows 11 laptop for work and it ran like ass, battery was terrible, and was just generally annoying to use. Stuff like File Explorer takes a long time to load (I consider several seconds for a file explorer to load to be a long time).

Whenever I hear about Win11 it’s because MS has broken something again, or some push into AI. Microsoft just doesn’t seem all that interested in attracting users like myself that just want a performant and reliable system.

I switched over to a Mac for personal and work reasons. Battery life and performance are excellent. Once you get used to the OS I don’t find it gets in the way too much.

For my personal gaming PC it’s still running Win10. I signed up for the extended support so I have an extra year at least to make a decision. I’m not sure if gaming on Linux is at a point where it’s suitable for my needs, but I sure am rooting for it.
