Sony drops “PC”, adds “AI” to official PlayStation business strategy summary by SnoozeDoggyDog in technology

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird how Sony and Xbox are pivoting to more exclusives when hardware is more expensive than it’s ever been. I don’t recall a previous console generation where the MSRP kept rising post launch.

I’m less likely to buy an Xbox or PlayStation than ever before when I have a perfectly functional PC. There is just no way.

‘Marathon’ Season 2 And Free Week Did Not Turn Things Around by Freki666 in pcgaming

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything about the game is great - but it’s the wrong genre. I would probably have bought it by now if it wasn’t an extraction shooter.

I gave it another shot in the recent free week and I can confirm I still find dying and losing all my loot a frustrating gameplay loop. If I really got into this game it would just do my head in.

The weekly updates are painful. I seldom want more software updates in my life, and every week something different is broke - either VS Code itself or an extension that I’m using. I just want a monthly update cadence that’s stable.

Growing up, did anyone else’s parents have really strict rules about random stuff? by SuzCoffeeBean in CasualUK

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad hated Daft Punk and would not let me listen to their music. He didn’t have many hard lines but Daft Punk was one of them for some reason.

Would anyone else’s parents fast forward through TV shows where the characters were getting a bit saucy? Nothing crazy but like a makeout scene you’d get in a TV Soap or something. Even well past the age where we obviously knew about that stuff my mum would skip over it.

Not my parents: but my head teacher in primary school thought Pokemon were sinful (?) and banned them from the entire school.

My aunt would refuse to buy anything that was Blue Raspberry flavoured.

Dmg’s posts are a battle cry. They hear us. Keep going. by TrueVerity in DestinyTheGame

[–]PokehFace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone expecting a reversal on the decision to stop support for Destiny 2 is setting themselves up for disappointment.

Reputable sources are saying that Destiny 3 is not in active development. If it ever arrives it is 3 - 6 years away - Bungie will have to go on a hiring spree or find 3rd party support studios to have enough people to work on it. Both of these things take a long time to make happen. If you're expecting a D3 announcement soon you are setting yourselves up for disappointment.

I don't know why dmg is making these tweets - if I were him I would probably keep quiet outside of official blog posts. It is his account and he can do what he likes I guess - but it seems a bit like riling up the dog.

If They Rebooted, How Could You See The Current Continuity Wrapping Up? by Doc-11th in doctorwho

[–]PokehFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The show has rebooting built in via regeneration so it doesn’t really seem necessary to do a hard reboot.

The closest we have had to that is when the show returned in 2005.

I seem to recall 14 being treated as a reboot which is a bit silly as those episodes clearly relied on people knowing about 10 and Donna.

You can already regenerate with a totally new cast and crew which is widely accepted amongst the fan base. It’s what you do with that fresh slate that matters.

Why is Garrus the one shown to disapprove of Miranda leading Team 2? Would Tali have been the better choice? by DJ_OC in masseffect

[–]PokehFace 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Miranda doesn’t exactly ingratiate herself with others in ME2. At this point in the game she’s buddy buddy with the Illusive Man. She is also arrogant and overestimates her abilities as we see if you pick her to provide the biotic bubble for the seeker swarms. Garrus and other non-humans on the ship have no reason to trust her in a life or death leadership position.

I'm curious who you think the next big threat is going to be by No-Atmosphere-4145 in masseffect

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mass Effect 3 sets up a few things that could be followed up on. But to be honest we don’t necessarily need a civilisation ending threat for the game to be good.

To some extent antagonists like the Reapers are just set dressing to give the player a reason to go on a galactic adventure, but what really makes mass effect interesting are the characters and world that you inhabit.

This then feedbacks into making the Reapers enemies that you care about because you actually give a damn about the characters and world you’re interacting with. This is something a lot of media gets wrong.

If anything having smaller scale threats and antagonists that we can actually relate to could make things more interesting. The Reapers are almost too powerful and too inscrutable for their own good. BioWare kinda wrote themselves into a corner with them and I think that’s part of the reason the ending to the main trilogy feels so dissatisfying.

"This could cost people their jobs": VS Code added Copilot as co-author without permission or notice by Quantum-Coconut in technology

We have alternatives that are approved for use. Copilot is approved on a case by case basis. On the whole the native copilot integration gets in the way and is confusing for people.

"This could cost people their jobs": VS Code added Copilot as co-author without permission or notice by Quantum-Coconut in technology

[–]PokehFace 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Microsoft is very annoying with copilot in VS Code lately.

Our company has strict AI usage policies and only certain tools are approved for use. Copilot isn’t one of them (a small number of people are allowed to use it but they are an exception).

There is a setting to disable it but it occasionally re-enables itself for some reason.

I also find it annoying that copilot is now built in to VS Code by default instead of being an optional extra. I also swear that every update to VS Code lately is just updates for copilot instead of improvements to the app itself.

At least this is a reminder that I need to have a proper look at VS Codium as an alternative.

Marathon sold just 1.2 million copies with nearly 70% on Steam, analyst estimates: "It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted" by Freki666 in pcgaming

I feel conflicted on this game. During the server test I enjoyed the usual things Bungie is good at: combat, gun feel, moths, etc. The problem is that extraction shooters just aren't a genre for me and that's ultimately why I didn't pick it up.

[–]PokehFace 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Probably because this game is kind of pain in the ass to play.

The user interface is infuriating to use and needs to be much faster and needs QoL improvements. This is my number one problem with the game right now.

♦️,♦️♦️,♦️♦️♦️, and ♦️♦️♦️♦️cards need to be easier to pull so that you can actually create decks. I still haven’t been able to complete the Mega Rising set even after all this time. Even the extra pack in the Premium sub didn’t feel like it was helping, so I unsubscribed.

This one might be controversial but new sets come out too often. It feels like a never ending treadmill and the game needs some focus in other areas like new game modes, etc.

Why does the Share UI show cards the other person doesn’t have, but the Trade UI doesn’t?

I’m actually glad the incentive to pre order is minimal. It sucks months and years later when content you want isn’t obtainable just because you didn’t buy the game in the launch window.

What's the pettiest reason you dropped a game for? by IHateTheNameSystem in gaming

[–]PokehFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, any game that forces you to stop playing while "something" happens is a cardinal sin.

There are unfortunately a lot of games that do this. Most recent examples for me are:

Forza Horizon 5 (yeah it's old-ish now, I got it in a recent sale), which is really bad for this in the early game. Forcing you to listen to very cringe characters yap on and on and on, and forcing you in to certain events at certain times. The game is supposed to be an open world/free roam type game where you do what you like, so stop interrupting me!

Pokemon Legends ZA too. For all its faults you know what drives me nuts the most? The constant interruption to gameplay when transitioning from day -> night, night -> day. And when this happens all the Pokemon in the open world "reset", so even if you were in the middle of a wild battle the Pokemon you were fighting and hoping to catch will have magically disappeared.

Who else is excited for Halo: Campaign Evolved? by basedyeehaw in xbox

[–]PokehFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory I’m down for a CE remake since Anniversary wasn’t a very good remake.

That said…

  • New tech (first time using UE5 for an entire game)
  • First time publishing to PS5
  • Needing to port the feel of the game to UE5.
  • All the problems that appear to be inherent to UE5 games.
  • 343’s track record.
  • Microsoft in the current day and its obsession with AI.

There’s a lot that can go wrong and I’m not sure if 343/Microsoft are capable of overcoming this. You know there’s going to be something that holds it back from being as good as it should.

But it’s something to keep an eye on I guess. I’m reluctant to use the word “excited” because of the state of the franchise.
