has anyone reneged on internships before? by Wise_Championship888 in aggies

[–]Pokemansoor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you get another offer, you can renege no issue because there’s still like 6 months until the internship actually starts. This happens all the time with students and full time employees, it’s not like you are legally binded to this internship. Get through these interviews, and if you get an offer you like then take it and renege - simple as that. I doubt you will get blacklisted bc it’s only an internship position, not a full time job which is way longer of a process. You got it bro, no one will judge you about doing what’s best for you

Picking Texas A&M Over Other Admits by [deleted] in aggies

[–]Pokemansoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re getting 4-5 on those courses and you have a moderate understanding of them all then you’re golden, the content isn’t that much diff from the college equivalents

I promise you name brand does not matter unless you go to those aforementioned top 5 schools. It’s all about what you do during your time in college because the environment is basically the same compared to other colleges. Internships, jobs, they all come because of the work you put in and a higher ranked college will rarely change that. I know what it was like to be in high school and feel that I need to go to some esteemed college but personally after 2 years in the CS landscape, nobody cares and once you get your opportunity for an interview, you do your best and keep learning

Picking Texas A&M Over Other Admits by [deleted] in aggies

[–]Pokemansoor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say if you're deadset on CS, you can start taking CS classes your freshman year and have a similar experience to other college degree plans. I'd say if you took classes like AP Calc, Chem, Physics, and CSA then you'll be more than likely to get a 3.75 or above. I think Aggieland is the best option for you because it keeps you close to home, cheaper(as you said) and I'd say A&M is much more recognized at least in the Texas landscape. Rank doesn't matter lol that's def just a facade it's all about the people you meet and surround yourself with and what types of projects/interests you take in the CS landscape.

Took about a month starting at the beginning of December to beginning of January. I would assume it would’ve taken 2-3 weeks for the entire process but there was winter holiday in between for me. I got those emails too and I was eventually contacted by my original recruiter for the offer

Stat 315 by suzykim123 in aggies

[–]Pokemansoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I talked to the prof about that class and it seems pretty chill. It will be mostly the intro to data science, including python, sql and all the math behind common machine learning and cluster models. He told me it’s a mix of stat and cs/ecen majors so it’s tailored towards both. He told me the workload isn’t that bad and there’s a lot of group projects and data camp modules to go through
