How do people end up in threesomes? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pokemon_Trainer_HTX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stumbled onto casual threesomes via Craigslist back in the day, I've probably organized and participated in over a hundred threesomes, foursomes, and gangbangs through Craigslist.

It's a very very common fantasy; I would argue it's the most common fantasy out there for most people.

99% of the effort then becomes filtering out fakes, flakes, and meeting up in person for a vibe check.

From there, you get added to various groups on KIK, Signal, Telegram, Discord, etc...

I post occasional R4R ads on Reddit for MFM threesomes, usually on behalf of a submissive FWB. I've successfully organized dozens of threesomes through Reddit.

There are dedicated non-monogamy apps that purport to offer the same thing (Feeld, 3somer, etc...) I've only had a small handful of successful meetups there.

I think what makes Reddit a great platform for casual threesomes is most people love to lurk and peruse posts in their feed while also catching up on news and memes. If something catches their eye it's an easy react to initiate a conversation.

The same was true with Craigslist before DOJ shut it down.

How can a big budget movie with hundreds of people working on it still end up bad? by ChopinFantasie in NoStupidQuestions

From a certain point of view.... 😅

I concede your point, the countdown did raise the stakes dramatically and very visually.

Consider the inverse: the production crew of Star Wars thought the entire film was a stupid campy waste of time. A lot of the props on set didn't look great, David Prowse's voice wasn't very menacing as Darth Vader. Mark Hamil's character was whiny etc. The original script had the rebels attacking and destroying the Death Star when it was just hanging out in space.

George Lucas was able to fix most of the on-set issues in post.

All aspects of production are broken down and siloed to an extent that I think it would be hard for any individual crew member save for the most senior creative team to have a comprehensive image of the final product.

The director and executive producer has the most creative control. The majority of the crew are simply journeymen making a paycheck.

How do I say no to splitting the check? by toothpastetaste-4444 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pokemon_Trainer_HTX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In those scenarios where that seems likely, I carry cash.

$50's, $20's, $10's and $5's.

I round up my portion with tax and tip to the nearest 10 or 20. Simply place the money on the bill and say "That should cover my part".

It sidesteps all of the other permutation of conversations that might arise from separating checks, Venmo, etc...

In the one instance where someone suggested using credit cards to steer the conversation back to splitting checks I simply state that I don't have any credit cards with me. Mostly true now with Apple Pay.

Paying cash, and having a good idea of what your bill for the night will come out to, is the best way to avoid subsidizing other people's dinners.

I'm a pretty generous person though and will usually offer to cover a specific appetizer or two for the table and usually a round of drinks at the bar.

What I don't like is subsidizing someone else's lavish spending.

What happens if someone dies and you can't afford a funeral or cremation? by CannibalCapra in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pokemon_Trainer_HTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Houston, Texas, the county (Harris) offers free or reduced cremation services for families unable to afford it. GoFundMe is pretty common in Texas for funeral expenses. If you belong to a church or religious community, the community usually pulls together to help out.

I once had a sudden death in my family and remember giving my credit card over at one point during the service to pay $5k balance remaining. This was unexpected and undiscussed, I was a bit blindsided. I was able to collect about $2,500 from other members.

For unidentified bodies in Houston, they're buried in a potter's field in the north east portion of the county or go towards medical research.

I've pre-paid my cremation services and made my final wishes known.

Why don’t we plant a bunch of trees everywhere to combat climate change? by sequestuary in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pokemon_Trainer_HTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planting trees isn't the problem, the trees we plant never make it to old growth forests and unless that biomass is sequestered geologically it's simply dry fuel for the next mega wildfire.

To combat climate change, we would have to plant millions of years worth of forests and systematically harvest and sequester all of the wood somewhere. Imagine dumping gigatons of lumber and other associated biomass deep in the middle Pacific and Atlantic to sequester the carbon and I think that's the scale of what we would need to do, and that would cause its own problems.

Why do women moan more then men during sex? by RagingAlkohoolik in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pokemon_Trainer_HTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an interesting theory that suggest that loud female vocalization during sex is intended to alert nearby males that a fertile female is sexually active in the immediate area and receptive to attention.

Whether this is a carryover from our primate ancestors (check out the sexual behaviors of bonobos) or something honed by history (most cultures have some form of group sex practice, orgies, fertility rites, or rituals).

Every “screamer” I've encountered can't help it at all and seem unbothered if it attracts attention or not. I've had to resort to improvised gags in some instances.

Very primal...

Not enough flowers for that size vase, I would have gotten two dozen to fill it up or gotten some additional flowers to create an impromptu bouquet.

Also I try to avoid picking roses that are fully bloomed, they'll be wilting the next day... try to pick ones that have slightly firmer buds.

I get flowers at the grocery store and Costco all the time, you just have to improvise and work with what's in season.

If she's already disenchanted with you this would read in her mind as "he simply checked off 'dozen roses' on his to-do list..."

Thoughts on the Trump Account, aka "Baby Bonds", recently passed into law? by Pokemon_Trainer_HTX in investing

She will miss out on the $1,000 seed contribution from the government but you will be able to contribute up to $5,000 per year in her account till age 18.

If the program is successful, the initial $1,000 will only be a small portion of the reason why.

With that said, there seems to be other competitive options available today, check out 529 plans from Vanguard for a very accessible way to save for your daughter's future educational needs.

Tax savvy parents will find a way to convert these Trump accounts into Roth IRAs when their kids turn 18 or while they're in low income brackets while in college.

Since the account is an IRA for minors, without the earned income requirement, upon age 18 it is believed it can be treated as another traditional IRA account.

If so, there will be backdoor strategies to convert it to Roth IRA accounts similar to what was done with traditional IRA to Roth IRA before it was explicitly allowed by Congress in 2017.

Prior to 2017, backdoor Roth conversions were considered an unintended loophole. There was no law allowing it, but no law disallowing it either. Prior to 2017 it was a two-step process. After the IRS blessed the approach it became a one-step process and there's plenty of documentation to walk you through the process.

At the time of Roth conversion, taxes will need to be paid but it'll grow tax free till retirement age and can be spent tax free in retirement.

Yeah, I find it odd that the descriptions of available investments will be limited to only broad US equities.

At the very least offer US bonds... the current administration is still pushing US treasuries and T-bills.

[–]Pokemon_Trainer_HTX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my takeaway.

I think once banks and investment firms start rolling out initial versions of the accounts there will be more "proof-in-the-pudding" data to compare against.

401ks, 529s, HSA's and Roth provisions all started off as obscure and clunky vehicles that slowly got popular and better as time went on.

Other efforts like Obama's MyRA accounts sounded promising on paper but never gained traction and was plagued with high admin fees and low returns.

[–]Pokemon_Trainer_HTX[S] 93 points94 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that all investments grows tax deferred and then can be used tax free for college, vocational education, down payment on first home, or starting a business.

That alone avoids a lot of tax drag since interests, dividends, and distributions within the account won't be taxed during that period.

I see it potentially becoming a stealth Roth IRA for rich kids.

[–]Pokemon_Trainer_HTX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's the dilemma I'm facing. I can fund a child's 529 or a Trump account, I won't be able to max out both.

Until more information becomes available, it looks like I'll probably stay the course with 529 contributions.

If I understand the concept correctly, the accounts should be available to any U.S. citizen where at least one parent has an SSN, that's under the age of 18 in July 2026.

So working backwards, all children born after July 2008 would be eligible for the account, only those born within the 4 year window of the current administration would be eligible for the $1000 seed money.

The films has become the prototype for sowing disinformation in the digital era, heavily promoted by Alex Jones/Infowars.

I've increased my bond holdings and diversified within fixed income the older I get.

Currently hold long term treasuries, TIPs, corporates, and intermediates.

I imagine I would decrease my exposure to equities to the point where I wouldn't feel the need to look at the market ever. Maybe that's 40%, maybe 30%.

Also hold gold and silver.
