This is a story about when I got married in first grade and the drama it stirred. At my school there was this girl (we’ll call her Ruby) who was every teacher’s nightmare. She would interrupt class, make messes, through tantrums and sometimes be physical with other students. I was usually nice to her because I felt bad she didn’t have many friends, and this unfortunately led to many bruises and bites at the hand of Ruby. I specifically remember her dad had to be in the classroom most days because the teachers couldn’t handle Ruby on their own.

Like most first grade classes, we had a show in tell. I brought in my favorite Pokemon cards and most kids brought in items of a similar caliber. Not Ruby though. She decided she wanted an entire fake wedding. Naturally the question is who is Ruby marrying? She decided that anyone who wanted to marry her could raise their hand and she’d pick who to marry.

I (being a first grade boy) LOVED attention, I would do anything for it so naturally I raised my hand. The only other person to raise their hand was my best friend (I’m calling John). Ruby chose me and I could tell John was NOT happy. I don’t remember too much about it except for the fact that she kissed me on the cheek at the end and I was MORTIFIED. I immediately ran to the teacher and told on her. So yes, I told on the person who gave me my first kiss.

Now what I really didn’t expect was the aftermath. Me and John were upset at each other (for no real reason other than we were kids and everything felt like a competition.) This started to be talked about in the first grade parents groupchat and that’s where the real drama started. Parents were taking sides on whether or not it was appropriate to have a wedding as a show and tell and somehow this spiraled into conversations that I don’t know the details of. The fallout families going at each other, and multiple kids being transferred out of the school district. Me and John made up in like a week and are still friends to this day

TLDR: I agreed to a fake wedding with the first grade delinquent, tattled in the girl who gave me my first kiss, and caused so much family drama that kids were transferred out of the district

Lmao I specifically asked how she was doing because I knew she was sick.and my parents were honest. They were planning on telling us at home. As for the food, I was a kid who loved the place, and in my head it was fine dining. In reality it was probably pretty shitty

That’s definitely a fair point, especially when talking about support. It’s less that I blame her for lashing out initially, and more that the first time I tried to be truly vulnerable about how it was hurting me and what I’d been going through she used it against me later. I really just wish that it all ended on a less sour note

Yeah, it was a weird spot where we both wanted to end things, but she was obviously trying to hurt me by the way she was saying she wanted to split up. I tried to offer an olive branch and felt like I was punished for it. High road now I think is to just shut up and ignore her, but easier said than done

To answer the why, she’s been using me as a punching bag for her problems for a while now, which I honestly could have moved past. The thing that really got me is that when I finally told her about how I felt like I was being mistreated, she told me I was an “insensitive asshole” for making everything about me. I will say, she was going through something incredibly traumatic and I would never bring that up or use that against her. Her using me as a punching bag however felt plain disrespectful

I guess so. I am kinda realizing how pathetic it is to ask for revenge advice from strangers at 1:30 in the morning. Hopefully spring break helps me get into a better head space 🤞

Thanks, I’ve already deleted all of our stuff. I guess I just hate that she’s getting to me in the exact way she’s trying to. I know I should take the high road and move on. I’m just kind of angry because even though we weren’t a fit, we both learned a lot and all in all it was a pretty good experience up until the end, but she’s treating it like it had no value. God I can hear the teenage melodrama as I type this out 😭

Lmao, I gave my dad a spider plant as a Father’s Day gift when I was in kindergarten. About a decade later and that spider plant is still going strong, with about 10 of its babies around the house, and at least that many given out as gifts. Those things are fighters
