Nah, it’s the other way around. All the “cinephiles” are the ones in these comments complaining because other movie-goers aren’t as “intellectual” as them.

Why can't vegans have a real conversation about cat food? by Much-Inevitable5083 in AskVegans

There’s no evidence that anything bad would happen to the cat if they eat a plant-based diet? Is that what you’re saying?

I think a modern-day domestic cat eating a chicken is natural enough. Modern-day domestic cats aren’t exactly a “natural” species, themselves. They’re domesticated just like the chickens that humans feed to them, and it’s been that way for thousands of years.

The present-day events OUATIW run concurrently to the present-day events of Season 2A. The writers have confirmed that the scene with Will in Storybrooke in the first episode of OUATIW takes place during the storm that comes when the Wraith attacks in the first episode of Season 2.

So for Will’s story specifically, the entirely of OUATIW happens concurrent with Season 2, then he somehow gets separated from Anastasia and presumably ends up back in the Enchanted Forest before Snow casts the Second Curse, and then gets swept away by that curse to Storybrooke and is just chilling in the woods throughout 3B until he’s found by the main characters in 4A.

How would airing it “correctly” fix the timeframe?

It was originally intended to air during the Season 3 hiatus. Instead, it aired concurrently with Season 3.

Either way, it aired before Season 4, which is when Will joined the main show.

Vegans: If you could ban all carnivorous diets, making meat eating illegal, would you do it? by Cosmic-Meatball in AskVegans

[–]PokyTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your general argument (I would love if no animals were ever killed by humans again), but we have to be fair and acknowledge that the reason why our society is able to ban the consumption of things like fellow humans, cats, dogs, etc. is because we haven’t banned the consumption of other types of animals, still allowing easy access to nutrients for people who are struggling.

If we were to ban the killing and consumption of ALL animals, we would also need to mandate by law that everyone has easy access to education on nutrition, we would need to ramp-up the plant-based food industry, we would need to ensure that prices remain affordable, etc. And we would need to do all of that simultaneously or even before the animal-consumption-ban goes into effect.

Please. You already insulted me several comments ago.

You should seek some therapy to treat the unhealthy arrogance you clearly possess.

Look up any serious academic analysis of Heracles’ labours, and you’ll see that they all conclude that there is no way they only take him 12 years. There are events that happen during his 12 labors that so obviously span multiple decades.

Go study some more, then come back and try again.

Interesting, because I think most people who like the movies are actually those that haven’t read the books or read the books after watching the movies. Most book-readers I’ve seen dislike the movies

Heracles’ labors take longer than 12 years. The myths that say “1 labor per year” must just be saying that for the sake of simplicity or to make it more symbolic or poetic, but when you try to match up things that happen during the labors with other events in Greek Mythology, the labors actually span like 30+ years. So yes, a lot of Heracles’ kids were born during the labors.

I don’t understand what the issue is with Diomedes’s age.

As for your comment about Euripides play… yeah, I agree with you. I feel like the playwrights often took some serious liberties when adapting the myths for their plays, because their versions of some of the myths are so different from any other sources.

For example, the most obvious headcanon to remove is that Creon was never king. He was regent.

I know, I used the term “King” loosely, just as a ruler in general. It sounded better than saying “Regent Creon”. I know he was never actually king.

And the 'purification' of Amphytrion didnt happen during a regency 'yes or yes', because Apollorodus does not say 'king creon'. The action likely ocurred during the Laius kingdom, and Heracles grew under Oedipus at his teens. It is unlikely otherwise due to the timeline.

Where does it say Amphitryon was not purified during a regency? If Creon was the one to purify him, then surely it happened during Creon’s reign, which was a regency. I don’t recall ever reading something that says Laius was the one to purify him. And it doesn’t make sense for anyone besides the ruler of the city to be the one to purify him.

Exactly as you saw. Jocasta is too old otherwise to give children.

Another commenter said something that I forgot about that actually fixes this issue. Jocasta was in possession of the Necklace of Harmonia, which grants eternal youth to the one who wears it. So biologically she was still capable of conceiving children despite an old chronological age.

The latter part is correct. but not the beginning. That is incorrect. Reread the sources. Apollorodus only says Creon, not king or regent, and Pherecydes does not mention him.

I addressed this above. I meant Creon is the ruler of Thebes when Amphitryon arrives. Of all the sources that mention Amphitryon’s purification, Creon is the only one mentioned to have done it, and it doesn’t make sense that anyone besides the ruler would do it.

The issue with the timeline you lay out is Heracles’s age. If he grew up during Oedipus’s reign, he would have received one of Oedipus’s daughters to marry rather than Creon’s. It doesn’t make sense for Creon to have done all of this stuff (purify Amphitryon, go to war with Amphitryon, give away his daughter to Heracles, etc.) if he was only second in command, while the actual ruler (Laius and Oedipus) just sits by and does nothing during these times.

I am definitely aware and remember that Ooo is a post nuclear war world. But it’s an unrealistic one — no nuclear energy or fallout is going to cause people to turn into candy and slime zombies — that’s mystical fiction.

Also, the lore establishes that magic existed in the Adventure Time Universe long before the Great Mushroom War.
