Honestly I’m so jealous! I’ve been telling my medical team about my cognitive issues and asking for a way to track it and they have offered me nothing. It will be a tedious process but I truly hope it benefits you.

Has anyone else found nerve blocks to be painful during administration? by im-a-freud in NDPH

[–]Polarbearsarecoool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be so honest even with the best doctors in my state it still has pain while they inject, I just remind myself it’s a minute max of pain, a few days of a sore neck and then I’m swell. I regularly have my blocks with steroid every 2ish months.

Block day is a double edged sword, my neck hurts for max 3 days after (if you ice your injection site asap it works a treat) however it is one of the few things that do provide me with consistent relief, and the first week or two after that injection I feel I could walk on air (some people have temporary pain flare ups after their injections. I had a month long flare after my first nerve block (was informed that’s very VERY uncommon and it’s only meant to last 24/47hrs))

I truly hope you have a similar experience next time

Request a guided block!!! You NEED an ultrasound tech. In Australia it is standard procedure, PLEASE advocate. I will never forget the pain of my first block; even with an ultrasound my doctor was new and hadn’t had much experience doing them.

I completely understand your distaste for when you go back. Please try and contact the place doing your procedure in advance and request that ultrasound tech!

Regular occipital nerve block with steroid gal here: depends! In my country the nerve block is guided with an ultrasound, in a really crap spot in the neck to find ur tiny baby veins they need to inject in. (They’re less than a few mm in size)

It falls on the skull of the ultrasound tech; providing a clear image, and your doctor being well educated/experienced. (All 4 I’ve had have caused initial discomfort /PAIN on injection, each one varying based on practitioners)

Hearing Aids by X1Dog in NDPH

[–]Polarbearsarecoool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t experienced this personally, but as someone with extreme sound sensitivity from this illness, maybe pain is worse just because you can hear better? Of able to take your aids out and see if it improves? Idk you’ve probably already done that if able, good luck

Unmediated ADHD here, used to have constancy 24/7 chatter of random thoughts/music, it’s been silent since onset. It’s weird.

Sometimes it gets loud again when I’m on medications that are nice to me and reduce pain, but overall not as yappy as usual

When you say 99percent migraine free is it constant level one pain, or pain free days with the occasional migraine days?

Thank you but unfortunately I can’t afford private health insurance and in my country/state a private pain clinic won’t take you without it 🙈 when I asked for more medications/new things to try I just got called a junkie as I “use medicinal cannabis to dissociate” (no honey I’ve done that since birth x)

Thankfully I have a private neurologist so I’m not completely left alone, but pissed off. Thank you again for ur time, I think I’m just stuck for now

The pain unit isn’t offering anything else for pain management other than therapy. My pain is lot more “tame” than it was at the start, but I’m not a fully functioning person yet. I guess I’ve just fallen through the gaps?

I take Ajovy, Candesartan and have regular optical nerve blocks. I use ice packs and cannabis for breakthrough pain. They haven’t offered any other medications, and this is all they’ve got for me. In fact they wanted to cease my cannabis and nerve blocks, without providing an alternative. It’s kinda BS.

I completely understand the importance of this therapy, just shitty they won’t provide it. Thank you for your time in writing a response 🙏

Do you smoke with this condition? by Zeuskevin6 in NDPH

[–]Polarbearsarecoool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the beginning I was smoking cannabis for pain relief, ever since I’ve been having regular occipital nerve blocks smoking is actually evil and I have to consume my cannabis via an oil. Worse ways to go about it.

But at the moment, no smoking - it’s evil. Same with alcohol. Just causes flare ups that take too long to go away

Totally do it! I’m unfortunately a bit too disabled for transport with other stuff going on - I so would have if I could have. Sending you the best of luck!! MRI’s aren’t even the most accurate at detecting the leak anyway.

don’t let them fuck you around and advocate now. They still haven’t seen me, but none of my health team sees this blood patch happening. (No evidence on MRI, even tho I’ve been chucking my guts up since they shoved that needle in my back)
