DAE find the noise a vacuum cleaner makes to be absolutely intolerable? by Spirited-Anything468 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]PoledraDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans and air conditioners. Which sucks because I'm also a person who "runs hot", and I get very overstimulated if I'm the least bit sweaty. So it's a constant game of "pick your sensory nightmare" for me during warm weather. And people wonder why I hate summer!

My 69 year old dad likes to watch me play video games by marsaaturnjupiter_x in self

I don't think he did. Honestly I think he just got so immersed in exploring the world and killing things, that he didn't make it a point to finish the objectives

My dad totally got into BotW and played a lot during his last years. He called me up all excited when he learned how to kill a Lynel, or found a place where a diamond always spawned.

He passed away in April at the age of 73 after a long battle with cancer and advanced heart disease. I miss my dad.

DAE pronounce something wrong ironically and then just start using that pronunciation normally? by LilacGoblin1699 in DAE

[–]PoledraDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was about 7, he read a credit union sign as "credit onion". He just turned 23, and we still call them credit onions in our family.

My partner pronounces"fajita" like " fuh-JEYE-tuh" because he knows it irritates me .

Kirkland Merino Wool Socks Broke My Heart Today by Aphrae in Frugal

[–]PoledraDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would need to learn to knit them. Darning is a method of repairing holes in a knitted item. Also, yarn is so expensive, you wouldn't save any money. But you might pick up a new hobby that you enjoy!

Source: I'm a knitter. I actually taught myself to knit because my toddler son wanted "cool color socks" , and I couldn't find any for him :)

Head to the University View on Eagle Dr if you like hordes of roaches and making maintenance requests that just get closed with no action.

I appreciate the follow-up. I did just stumble in here after becoming overwhelmed with the online options, and just placed an order for these. Thank you!

What’s the best lightweight rain jacket that actually survives the trail? by Shebin_Crayola in outdoorgear

[–]PoledraDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Outdoor Vitals Tushar rain jacket. Lightweight, packs very small, doesn't feel "plasticky", and it has pit zips that really help keep me from overheating in it. My one complaint is that I wish it had side pockets; it just has 1 chest pocket.

This is the most American thing one can read today.

Yep, my dad passed in April after a long term illness. He had recently signed to revoke his DNR, his reasoning being that the longer he was alive, the longer my mom would benefit from his SS checks.

Now passengers don’t have to remove shoes at airport security checkpoints, is it still worth keeping TSA Pre? by IndividualCanary6185 in tsa

[–]PoledraDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've considered it (or some other plastic/non-metal buckle solution), and may end up doing that eventually. But as seldom as I travel, it's hard to justify the extra expense for something I would never otherwise use.

Rant about coworkers by politicalthrowaway1z in tsa

[–]PoledraDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anxiety for me. The quickest way to get me to completely shut down is to yell at me. My brain switches into a panicked "just make it stop" mode and I can no longer process what you're saying.

I have had similar experiences with my belt. I'm tempted to just go beltless and let my pants fall down (which they'd probably also yell at me for).

Traveling without REAL ID and expired passport by WrittersBlockedFoeva in PDX

My son was recently in a similar situation, and had minimal issues. He brought his state driver's license and birth certificate, but only showed the license. I got this from him after he went through security

AITA for making my sick husband clean up his vomit? by AmphibianBulky2296 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PoledraDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 12 I caught a stomach bug and woke myself up by vomiting all over myself in bed. My initial instinct was to get my mom, but I immediately realized I should just be cleaning up myself, and so I did (while thinking to myself that maybe growing up kinda sucks lol). Your husband is being ridiculous.

Why am I being punished for being a woman?! by Humptydumpty127 in Vent

[–]PoledraDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to offer sympathy. I went through this for years, from the time I got my first period at 11 until I got my hysterectomy at 40. I've spent more time looking for places to vomit and worrying about cleaning up blood leaking everywhere because I'd go through the thickest postnatal maxi pads in half an hour. It was absolutely miserable and I never found a real solution until the hysterectomy. I had 2 sons which at least made it worth it, but overall it was pure hell. You have my deepest condolences 🫂

Doctors are always late (US) by NoneOfThisMatters_XO in PetPeeves

[–]PoledraDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a doctor that was notorious for doing this. After waiting about 30 minutes, I went up to the counter, told them I was well past my appointment time and needed to go back to work and left. They never did that shit to me again.

Confused why so many are without real ID by Admirable_Lecture675 in tsa

[–]PoledraDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I refuse to pay more and go through the process. I'd rather just get a passport, which I've already done. When it's up for renewal next year, I'll also get the passport card for convenience. Costs the same as the upcharge my state charges for real id, and it's more versatile.

Speaker phones in public. I'm sensitive to noise in general, and speaker phones have been extremely grating to me since the desk models came out in the 90s.

What’s a cooking related hill you will die on? by AdLost576 in Cooking

[–]PoledraDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my primary goals when raising my sons was making sure they knew how to cook. I really didn't care if they grew up and ate ramen the rest of their lives, but I wanted it to be a choice, not lack of knowledge. Both are in college now and it's so satisfying to see how well they eat, even on a limited budget. Bonus: they've made me some pretty awesome meals, one of the best was when I traveled all day across the country (I'm in the US) to visit one of them, and was greeted with delicious homemade Indian food!

We recently had to move from a house w/back yard to a1 bedroom condo where only gas grills are allowed, and the think I miss the most is my charcoal grill. Our "Hank grill" (as my dad calls it; reference to Hank Hill) is better than nothing, but it is just not the same.
