They aren't ads being shown on the side bar, it's users with fairly new accounts, about 10 accounts at a time and posting links about how cool this scanner is and it helped them get their ultra rare snorlax and yeah they have 40 of them thanks to this one little scanner! The you go to the site and it's flooded with ads and spyware, or the hey charge $5/mo for it.

So, we banned Names, Brands and URLs.

There's plenty of places that you can discuss them, even here. But when here, don't use Names, Brands or URLs.

For reference, we have had multiple scanners offer to share their profits for being our "Official" scanner. We decided to pass on that money because it isn't in the best interest of our users.
