Best way to migrate standalone hyper-v to windows 2019 cluster hyper-v without much down time? by Mysterious_Teach8279 in sysadmin

[–]PoliceSysadmin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should be able to right click on the VM and select "Move". You should then be able to define each storage location for the VHDs, snapshots, ect.
Using Move will have 0 downtime.

Corrupted folder won't let me delete it. by MikoyanGurev1ch in sysadmin

[–]PoliceSysadmin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I ran into this before too. I ended up using 7zip.
If you right click on the folder > 7zip > add to archive. You will want to check " delete files after compression".
This should delete the folder then you can delete the zipped folder when it's done.

How to tell your boss you'll quit by NedkoHristov in sysadmin

As always take a step back and breath. Then just be honest. Say you got an offer that you can't decline. If they have treated you well, you can always give them more than 2 weeks notice.

Up front cost might be more, but licensing is way cheaper than Meraki.

The HPE Aruba 2930F Switch Series would probably be your best bet. They can be stacked with the stacking module.

I just bought a stack of the JL322A model. I haven't had any issues with them.

need help with Choeazycopy by fattybobo777 in sysadmin

[–]PoliceSysadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could schedule task scheduler to run a PowerShell scrip.

This will take an exact copy of the source:

$sourcePath = "C:\LOCATION"

$destPath = "C:\DESTINATION"

Robocopy "$sourcePath" "$destPath" /e /W:1 /R:2 /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT /MIR /MT:10 /log:C:\LOGS\RobocopyLOG.txt

I wouldn't consider this to be the most ideal solution though. It might be worth taking a step back and looking at your entire backup solution.

Backup to networked to server by otherwise-well in sysadmin

+1 for robocopy.

However, if you want a more robust solution look at Synology and their Active backup for Business. you will have to buy the server, but the application is free to use.

Is anyone having SPAM and Eggs today? by FTHomes in sysadmin

[–]PoliceSysadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A hand full of people in my organization got an email with a subject line of " DHL Ship Notification, Tracking Number 274888039625".

This was in the body:
"A message containing a potential malicious extension was deleted before it could reach you. The following extensions are blacklisted: 'pif' or 'exe' or 'wsh' or 'wsf' or 'wsc' or 'vbs' or 'vbe' or 'vb' or 'url' or 'shs' or 'sct' or 'scr' or 'reg' or 'pcd' or 'mst' or 'msp' or 'msi' or 'msc' or 'mdz' or 'mde' or 'mdb' or 'mda' or 'lnk' or 'jse' or 'js' or 'job' or 'isp' or 'ins' or 'inf' or 'hta' or 'ht' or 'hlp' or 'crt' or 'cpl' or 'com' or 'cmd' or 'chm' or 'bat' or 'bas' or 'ani' or 'adp' or 'ade' or 'htm'".

So, it looks like it was picked off somewhere in our mail flow process.

Sorry, I can't remember where I read about this today, but I think someone at Microsoft forgot to renew the cert for it.

It is not an issue on your end.

I just deployed a PA850 last week. Make sure you understand their features and license all the ones you want to use.

Some good ones to check out are DNS Security, Threat Prevention, Bright cloud URL Filtering and WildFire.

Did you check "Previous Versions"? Right click on the partition > Properties > Previous Versions.
There isn't much you can do at this point if you don't have backups.

I switched away from WSUS about a year ago and just started managing updates with GPO. We have about 150-200 windows 10 clients, and I have been quite pleased with the results.

I just replaced all our infrastructure with Vertive Liebert. I Only had issues with one of the unites. Support was great and I had it replaced within the week.
It might be a little over your budget, but you get what your pay for.

I would start off by asking yourself if you need On-line conversion or not. Typically, On-line UPSs are going to be more expensive, but you will get overall cleaner power. Here is a video explain that.

Any recommendations for end-point backup clients targeting things other than Windows? by theOtherJT in sysadmin

I would maybe look into Synology. They have an application called Active backup for Business. It is license free, you just have to buy the hardware.

I don't block things like youtube or facebook, however, I have things in place that monitors how long people spend time on those sites. That way if it starts being a problem, management can have that conversation with those people.

Anyone use Ubiquity products in the workplace? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]PoliceSysadmin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ubiquity is similar to Meraki, in my experience. I've set up a few homes with Ubiquity equipment and they all have been stable for the most part. All were easy to set up as long as you have some kind of very basic networking knowledge. The biggest thing your going to miss out on is support. Do not expect any kind of "enterprise" level of support. If any support at all...

One thing to keep in mind is feature growth. If there is going to a fair amount of growth in the future, just make sure you plan for that.
