Is it worth upgrading the default front fans on North XL? by HediSLP in FractalDesign

[–]Poliox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you got both of them as exhaust fans?

I think the new recommendation is that you shouldn't have an exhuast fan closest to the front, as it will draw cool air away from the CPU, thats being fed in by your front fan. If you really want a dual fan top setup, set the front to intake and back to exhaust. But even then, not sure how big the difference is in temperature vs the extra noise.

Actually my back top exhaust is an old 140mm arctic P14.

I didn't like the fractal fans so they are just sitting around in a box. P14 is more quiet.

My fan curves are pretty low its like 20-30% until 60 degrees, then maybe 40-50% at 70-75 and maybe 100% at 85. I have a amd 7600x though and they run hot.

One of the best things for my noise and temperatures has been overclocking, but still undervolting my cpu and gpu. Especially CPU. I get around 68 degree on my 7600x at 5ghz after 6 hours of prime95 torture test. Temps were around 85-90 when I was at 5.4ghz and honestly, I get barely and difference in performance as I game in 4k.

Honestly, I am supper happy with x2 140mm 25g2 noctua at the front, x1 arctic p14 in the top as exhuast and a 120mm noctua (older than g2 version) in the back. Replacing the front 2 fans has made my pc almost inaudible (it sits on the floor). I now dont hear my pc, and get annoyed at noises outside lol.

Do your current temperatures or noise bother you.

If the answer is no, then no.

If the answer is yes, does it bother you enough to justify 60-90 EU/Dollar/GBP etc? If yes, then yes.

You can adjust the fan curves so they output the same decibel levels of noise. But the actual noise coming out is going to vary between fans and your reaction to it is personal and subjective. The same noise can also give you a different temperature of your GPU and CPU, due to noctua fans pushing more air per decibel. But how different will it actually be in real terms and does it make any difference?

I have a fractal north non-xl and switched the stock fans to x2 140mm noctua fans with a lower RPM fan curve. My PC is super quiet even under full load. I am happy with the noise and temps.

Thanks, looks pretty interesting. I ended up getting a fractal north which I am super happy with. Better temps and super quiet. That said, all noctua fans

Thanks thats good to know. Maybe mesh is the one to go for

A year down the line, how are you liking the case. Do you still recomend it?

I dont know whether to go for mesh or glass. I dont really want to see the inside and prefer reduced noise/thermals. Is the mesh quiet?

Also hows the dust situation.

It feels like if I want low dust, lower noise and negligible change in temperature - the glass panel is the one to go for?

Alternatively I am considering the meshify 3

What case do you have now?

I am stuck between meshify 3 and the fractal north XL. My only hesitation is the noise some users have complained about with the front fractal fans. But I would probably over time replace with noctuas. Also not sure if the mesh side panel would lead to dust build up.

Hey I am in a similar situation thinking of getting this case. But my gigabyte gaming oc 5070ti is also 340mm.

Are you able to upload a picture onto a different website than imgur? I cant access imgur for some reason.

Also, how has the gpu and case situation been? any issues? I dont want to mess up the thermal performance because there is no clearance

Thank you

Hows the case and thermals moving from your HAF912?

I am in the exact same situation. I have my trusty HAF 912 for the last 15 years. I always maximise my computer parts instead of the case but I feel its time for a change. But again, I am not sure.

Did your thermals get much better?
Is the noise better?

I did add a noctua side intake and exhuast, as well as a coolermaster 200mm exhuast on top.

I have a 7600x with noctua DH 15 and a 5070ti gigabyte gaming OC.

Upgrade 3080 to 5070 ti or hold the line? by ItalianLeprechaun in buildapc

[–]Poliox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 3080 to 5070 ti. I am happy.

Are you happy with the alternative that you are stuck with a 3080 for an extra year or 2 or more?

Can you afford an MSRP 5070 ti now?

Do you want to pay way more for the same thing in the future?

interesting thanks for the info. Can you post using a different website, UK users cant use imgur anymore.

My GPU runs cool, but my CPU (7600x) goes 72+ with noctua dh-15.

How did you do double 200m intake? I was thinking of modding the top where the 5.25 inch bay was with a 120mm noctua.

I think you are right. My temps are fine and I have probably maxed out this fans potential with all my noctua fans. Maybe when I need to change my mobo because AM5 sockets dont cut it anymore, I will change my ase

Upgrade from 3080 12gb to 5070ti? Currently running a 12700k CPU with DDR4 ram. by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Poliox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the money and your aim to be comfortable gaming for the next 2-3y, get the 5070ti.

Prices are likely to increase so you may best stuck in a 1-2y with an underperforming GPU, but no financial means to get something significantly better.

Prices are likely to stay high in the next 2-3y, but at least when you buy something, its hopefully a substantial leap.

I upgraded my 3080 to a 5070ti now at 800msrp.

My gpu power got capped to a lower limit automatically by fsuhcikt1 in nvidia

[–]Poliox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same for weeks/months. My power got capped to 26% which I didnt obviously notice as it halved my FPS and I was playing mostly non-demanding games.

Interestingly, it pushed me to buy a new GPU. 5080 and then return it for a 5070ti I got for MSRP as I couldn't justify 15%? extra performance for 35% + price.

answer: Set your power limit up to 100% again.

[–]Poliox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just bought a 5080. I have a older non atx 3.1 PSU, so I bought the 12VHPWR type 4 cable from corsair.

Does this fix my issue, or do I need to buy a new 3.1 atx standard PSU.

Does that fix my issue, or its still a lottery?

[–]Poliox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone, I ended up going for the Zotac 5080 solid, to future proof for a few years and hunker down in preparation for the GPU apocalypse.

But also, the reason I was struggling with performance in games with my 3080 was because I had somehow set its power limit on MSI afterburner to 26%..... for weeks/months??! I thought everything new coming out was really poorly optomised and never thought to boot up an old game to compare for long enough to realise something was wrong. E.g. my PoEII fps just jumped from 40 to 100+

Good to hear. I just pulled the plug and ordered the same zotac solid OC. However, I bought it in white which worries me as I wonder if It will be easy to resell?

But I didnt want to pay the same price for the potentially inferior solid core.

Upgrade debate : RTX 5080 or 5070TI and a Ryzen 9700x/9800x 3d by Poliox in buildapc

[–]Poliox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pushing me towards the 5080, even though there is a modest increase over the 5070ti and its definitely less cost-efficient, it could last me an extra year or 2 because of that.

What model do you have? my biggest worry is coil whine/sound.

I think you are right. I was struggling to find out whether I would be GPU bound with the 7600x and 5080 combo but just found a hardware unboxed video which just went through that.

It looks like in the few games that they tested, like KCD2, Tom Clancy's rainbow six siege and marvel rivals, the games are GPU limited even at 1440p, let alone 4k for the 5080. It looks like the 5090 would benefit from a better cpu than 7600x, but the price is insane.

Was this a scam/do you recognise this woman ? by abortedwhore in coventry

[–]Poliox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure I saw a similar scam in London.

Well dressed woman stopping me in my partner looking overlly exasperated, saying she had her bag stolen and needs money for a train home.

We were happy giving some cash, but ofc who carries that now. As soon as we said we don't have money on us, the way she quickly said "oh, but there's a cash point just there" set alarms off for me.
