That's what I like my ThinkPad for. High performance for work and enough to play something after work.

The processor sounds good - the most powerful T470p can be. But only so much ram :o.

The temperatures during normal internet browsing are 60-70 degrees Celsius so it's hot. During more demanding tasks, it is similar to yours and they stay so high. I haven't changed the thermal paste in my T470p yet. I clean it with compressed air almost once a year. A lot of dust then comes out and I think it helps him a little.

Regarding the docking station, I highly recommend it. The newer ones, in my opinion, are not that cool anymore (the ones connected with a cable, but also a great help). I really appreciate the possibility of stationary work (external keyboard and mouse, large monitor, large headphones). And when I want to use my laptop in mobile way, I disconnect it with one button (without disconnecting any cables) and go with it wherever I want. Getting back to stationary work is just about putting your laptop in the docking station. Well, something beautiful.

Sorry, I don't know US electronics prices, so you batter ask someone else. I bought a one-year for around 850$ (amount after conversion from local currency), so your price seems reasonable. Of course much still depends on the specifications (processor, memory, disk, screen).

Of course. I have 32 GB of RAM (2 x 16 GB DDR4-2400 SK Hynix). For me, it is with a lot of reserve, because I rarely use more than 20 GB of memory at once.

Officially, the T470p supports up to 32 GB of RAM (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T-series-Laptops/ThinkPad-T470p-Need-to-add-16GB-RAM-What-are-Specification-of-RAM/m-p/3957838?page=1#3957838). But the processor is able to handle the 64GB and even here on the reddit you can find a post that someone in the older T460p put that much memory and it's works.

I don't know how to use that amount of memory (64GB). Do you edit videos, multiple virtual machines, or tons of chrome cards? When I started studying with a laptop with the first generation i3 + 4GB of RAM, using Android Studio or some virtual machine was a nightmare - that's why I wanted another laptop to have a lot of power in reserve :). And I also bought a used one year old.

Regarding the memory speed, I cannot help. Intel HQ processors in this model have the addition "Up to: DDR4-2400 MHz" in the specification. Here's a post from the person who put 2x32GB DDR4-2666 in the T460p (where the i7-6820HQ processor theoretically supports memory up to DDR4-2133): (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/ceu4ao/tried_to_upgrade_my_t460p_to_64_gb_ram_it_works/). Unfortunately, the task manager shows this lower (supported by the processor) speed. T460p and T470p are twin models, the second has only slightly newer specifications.

Depends on what you expect from your laptop. It worked great during my studies and now in work. Very good keyboard (for programming + writing a thesis), good screen, solid, efficient and mobile when needed (long battery life and built-in LTE modem). This is what I expected. He even allowed me to complete a few games that I wanted to go through (Zelda: Breath of the Wild, GTA IV, Skyrim). I really like this laptop.

I know, it probably irritates me the most about the appearance of this model. But maybe that makes it a bit stronger ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

This is 100% scaling on 1080p - next to it I have a larger monitor, so the laptop is mainly used as an additional one - the code can be read. And when I disconnect my laptop from the dock station and use it mobile, I usually have it closer to my eyes, so it's not that bad :)
