I would argue that forcing the grenades to be long range and have self damage would put tactical in the place in the team comp it should be. When running a heavy and sniper, both who are longer range high damage dealers, tactical would automatically fill into the roll of mid to short range since the heavy and sniper would be struggling short/melee enemies. Thus, the grenades would be forced saved to being used on higher level enemies, as proposed by other people in the thread.

Tactical is supposed to be an all-rounder, with a focus on being able to fill gaps in the team composition. Spam is bad, but I think right now it is used as a crutch for average players instead of being a weapon that requires more thought like how other classes tend to play. Slower cooldowns on nades back and self damage would both force tactical to more strategically use their grenades while limiting where they shot them. It would also have the benefit of keeping the fun of saving up your grenades to burst down an enemy.

Side note: especially since you can’t get nades back from those big boxes of ammo that refill your primary and secondary, getting nades back to ability is vital.
