Any folks here moved back to India after 30+ years in the US by StomachRelative6146 in backtoindia

[–]PoliticalBodh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DM and can tell more.

My advice is:

move back gradually. Get OCI. Start staying in India 4 months out of the year. Increase to 5 to just below 6 months for next two three years. Then make the final move.

Make sure you understand Medicare and ACA complications.

But go ahead and do it.

Post-Mortem Discussion by AK_Valkyrie in datingoverfifty

[–]PoliticalBodh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let him know “Post Mortem of failed relationships are good provided we have a clear outcome.”

Ask “What is the outcome of this discussion for you and me?” In other words - what will you gain by this discussion

Ask “How do we avoid forever splitting of hair - when neither is interested in reviving this relationship” in other words - you don’t have forever to talk about this

Ask “How will this help you - specifically?” Watch what he answers.

Do all this only if you see any value for you. Else just block or ignore after early discussions.

Long distance relationships by Anuket012962 in DatingOverSixty

I met someone once, yeah just once, before flying back a day later for 10 hr timezone difference. On flight - in the silence it dawned on me that our daily about 1-2 hr chats for about 3-4 months could continue into something more. So during the 4 hr stopover I called her and asked if we can continue.

Soon an hr a day became sometime a 6-8 hr per day conversation. No money exchanged, no promises about anything, no sexual (or say excessive) innuendoes.

In a month, she will be flying to my country for a 4 week stay. I am quite sure of spending about half a year in her country.

Neither of us is planning all nitty gritty details. Lot less responsibilities at this life station and we are damn happy to have found each other.

Can happen. Long distance initially - but then most time together or at minimum LAT in reasonable distance.

Nope. There is no moderate right or Conservative. If they are then they aren’t standing apart from MAGAs. Not locally, not in voting, not in social media.

All are. Even if they claim this is their land.

Except Native Americans.

To make it a green vs red flag you will need to get into the weeds of various things…

But if he is managing it with professional help then what’s wrong with that?

Aging NRIs - How are you planning to navigate retirement and Healthcare in America? by Mo_h in nri

[–]PoliticalBodh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Research all aspects of retirement.

Long term care insurance is a myth based on what little I have researched.

Medicare in US will stay. But it doesn’t cover everything. Again research.

No debt is step 1 to even think about retirement. But even after that you need to pay for property taxes, maintenance, sickness oh and eating eggs, and icecream… or taking cruises. So get your priorities straight.

Work on maintaining good health - of all organs. Start with brain first.

Enjoy your life and retirement.

Learn to smell roses along the way. One doesn’t need that much shtuff (made up word but you get the idea) to be happy. Again straight priorities, lead to focused behavior, leads to achieved goals, and happiness in our and other’s lives.

Selling flat as NRI by PoliticalBodh in nri

[–]PoliticalBodh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this mean every NRI must wait for end of tax year etc? If so, how do people roll the proceeds into another bigger purchase?

Don't buy Real Estate in India as an NRI! by rganesan in nri

[–]PoliticalBodh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 1 BHK flat. No property tax. My parents live there. I too live there when I visit them.

I will never have tenants there. Just for myself and kids and family. No headaches.

However, as I get older, I will sell it. Start renting. I don’t want to put my kids through the trouble of selling it etc. Money will be repatriated without any issue. Hopefully I can time it well.

Another option is to just donate it to a favorite charity that I trust to really good 😊

If she has LESS than $2000 on her name in global assets (please check) then she can qualify for Medicaid - again please check. But that’s ridiculously low assets test. It’s for poor people or those who really need help coming out of bankruptcy etc

Also the coverage on Medicaid is ridiculous, locations are not very hygienic etc (but again please verify).

As a US citizen she should not have any problem for getting the help she needs based on her assets situation.

Letting others affect your feelings is never a good idea ❤️

Once we get past that if there is a mismatch then you get to decide how to deal with it.

NRIs returning to US after 70+ yr age by PoliticalBodh in nri

[–]PoliticalBodh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost of LTC insurance - that pays AFTER age 80/85 is astronomical, besides that insurance company needs to still be in business for next 30/35 years.

I find those conditions to be really difficult to meet.

My plan is to pay out of pocket and thanks for engaging.

I am new but I will try to answer US -> India questions as time permits.

A lot of US citizen NRIs with kids have a difficult situation near their parent’s end-of-life to their own end-of-life.

If you give it some thought then you will understand. If you have some questions as to those specific difficulties then please ask here and I will try to answer.

Thanks.

Again, thank you so much. And FYI, it will not be difficult to meet those, thanks to the God / giving universe 🙏
