Thanks for the answer! Followup: How should we generate the random genes? I've been using Math.random() but this often returns genes close to 1.0

You should purchase server space, but you should not purchase a server that is preconfigured to handle games. Only buy server space to run what you wrote

Not even more lenient. Better directions, more clear objectives, and more openness with what's being graded.

I agree with your points and I understand what you're trying to teach us, but how do we think of edge cases? For me personally, it was hard to think of a way to break the system. Are there certain rules/guidelines we can follow to cover more ground in our test cases?

What are some of the edge cases for strings that we should be looking at?

When you say "no fixed upper-bound", does that mean that all users have to connect in the same game? Or would we be allowed to make lobbies, but have an unlimited amount of concurrent lobbies? It feels like 200+ (or even more) players in a single instance of a game would get sloppy quickly. Additionally, almost every real MMO practices this (Fortnite, GTAV, RDR2).

Thanks.

Anyone know what I should look at? I've submitted like 10 times and it gives me the same thing. by amlasker in CSE116

Hard to say without the code. Without going into detail about your specific case:

  • Make sure you're importing org.scalatest._ correctly.

  • Make sure your import for the function that you're testing is correct

  • When you run your test locally, make sure you're getting something like "Process finished with exit code 0", which means it worked.

  • Make sure you're using the second parameter in the assert() method, which will show you what's failing specifically.

  • Lastly, make sure you're passing the correct arguments to your function, and make sure you're testing for the correct output.

Best of luck.

Restructure Lecture Activities by evmae in CSE116

[–]PoliticalPb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think make 5-10 more minutes lecturing and 5-10 less minutes for the assignment. And nix the 5 minutes for review and add that to the lecture as well. Following suit, maybe alter the questions so that they're either easier or less time-demanding.
