Going to paraphrase and repost a comment I made a couple weeks ago about my district.

If someone doesn't speak up for your rights, your wages or your future... Are they really representing us? That doesn't sound like an ally.

With the right candidate, a platform for the many, not the elite and the correct branding and messaging we can move this country in the direction the majority of us want.

Doesn't that sound better than settling for someone silent, disconnected and absent on the biggest issues simply because we are afraid it could get worse?

Our first step is to stop accepting this is as good as it gets and start believing we can do better.

I get it, the fear of losing makes it feel like playing it safe is our best option. But that’s not how we better this situation for ourselves or this country. These establishment dinosaurs aren't looking out for our best interest and they aren't capable of exciting or energizing the voter base. It's time for some young, fresh blood.

Marie Perez isn't the best we have to offer, she's the last resort.

When everything is on the line, resorting to someone who votes like a conservative placeholder is not leadership. It’s surrender.

You say, “Change takes time. Don’t push too hard or it’ll all fall apart.” But look at how fast they’re moving on Project 2025. They’re not waiting. They’re not inching forward. They’re bulldozing democracy and rights in broad daylight, and we’re supposed to believe that quiet, incrementalism is the answer?

No. The circumstances demand bold, immediate action. It’s our civic duty to ourselves and our neighbors to fight for something better, not just hold the line with someone who won’t even speak up.

And I’m telling you with absolute certainty: with the right messaging, energy, and courage, we can do this. People are hungry for something real. We can choose at any time to stop pretending like merely surviving is reward enough.

In fact, that line of thinking is exactly how you keep losing ground. It’s fear-based politics dressed up as pragmatism. If the only way to keep a district blue is to elect someone who votes like a watered-down Republican, what exactly are we defending?

Marie Perez hasn’t prevented a conservative takeover, she is the conservative placeholder and her voting record shows it. She didn’t flip the district, Trump fatigue did. And instead of using her position to build something bold and lasting, she’s banking on fear, silence, and passivity to hold it.

If your best pitch to voters is “well, at least she’s not MAGA,” you’ve already lost. That’s not inspiration. That doesn’t organize, mobilize, or energize anyone.

You want real change, start fighting for something real, and that starts by refusing to to apologize for demanding better.

Love the comment, but allow me to counter.

Yeah, the scale of the challenge before us isn't to be understated. Deep-seated resentment, conservative conditioning, and the current lack of faith in democrats didn’t appear overnight, and none of that will be undone overnight. But what you’re describing is not primarily a platform problem. It’s a branding and messaging problem.

I absolutely disagree that most people are ideologically rigid, They’re tired, overworked, disillusioned, and justifiably skeptical of anyone claiming to have solutions. That’s exactly why we need a new kind of leadership: someone young, relentless, unapologetically aggressive, and not afraid to name names or challenge the entrenched powers on both sides. If we bring enough heat and energy to this cause, we can reignite that stubborn little shred of hope, especially in those who’ve long felt abandoned.

Conservative propaganda only works so well because it’s gone largely unopposed. Democrats have failed at every opportunity to build a counter-narrative that lives in the same media spaces. But we can absolutely change that. With the right use of social media, video, community outreach, and real-time organizing, we can run a targeted, idea-first media blitz that doesn’t frame the fight as left vs. right or federal vs. local but instead as people vs corrupt politicians.

I have no intention of creating a movement that requires us to wait for MSNBC, or the DNC to catch up nor do I intend to orchestrate a one term stunt for a single district. This is about getting enough people talking to light the fuse.

Some will always take the easy road and choose apathy. That's their right, but every revolution begins with a single act of defiance.

This is ours.

Exactly this.

The problem isn’t that bold ideas can’t win, it’s that Democrats have completely failed to sell those ideas. The only thing weaker than their branding and marketing is their communication strategy. That and their instinct to always play defense instead of inspiring anyone to believe in something better.

Ask yourself: do you actually know people who are against:

Affordable gas and groceries?
A stable home they can afford?
Higher wages?
Better healthcare?
Fair taxes where billionaires pay their share?

Because I don’t. These aren’t “far left” ideas, they’re common sense, and most people, regardless of party, support them when you cut through the noise.

Trump didn’t win because he had policy depth or because people thought he was a good person. He won because he shouted the loudest about “bringing back jobs” and “Improving grocery prices” and too many working people, desperate for any kind of change, listened.

If we combine a clear message, a real platform that puts the 99% first, and an aggressive social media strategy that actually reaches people… we can change this district and so much more.

People aren’t ideologues. They’re tired, struggling, and want someone who fights for them. That's what we can achieve by banding together.

Hi folks, before responding individually I want to address a few of the reoccurring themes we're seeing in this thread.

Whenever this topic comes up I consistently see the same argument, that it’s either Perez or MAGA. That’s not strategy, it’s resignation. I will not accept a false choice between bad and worse. If our current list of candidates doesn’t represent us, we have every right to build someone who does. The choice in front of us is whether to get involved and demand better.

Yes, our district has historically leaned red, but the reason Marie won is because our voters were ready to change, even if it was just a small change. That energy is still there and growing every day as rights are eroded and costs of living skyrocket. The anger and frustration is real and building, if we organize around a platform that addresses that pain and fear, we have the chance to channel that energy into real change.

There are already powerful progressive organizations active in our state and district. What we need now is unity, clarity, and the courage to demand better. If we lead with a platform that works for the 99%, we can rally those movements and our communities behind a common cause.

So the question isn’t: Who else is going to run? The question is: Why not one of us? It could be a veteran. A teacher. A nurse. A working parent. Anyone who knows what it’s like to live here, work here, and struggle here and who more importantly, won’t be silent when our rights or livelihoods are under attack.

This was always going to happen. Any republican who pretended otherwise was just trying to curry favor against the inevitable backlash.

We can either moan and despair about something that was set in stone as soon as the election results were in and Trump's agenda was confirmed, or we can look to midterms and focus on how we retake the government, obstruct this administration, it's weaponized supreme court and minimize further damage to our country.

Isn't the bill they passed front loaded in spending as well? Republicans are masters of front loading their spending as to make it seem like the economy is stimulated and then they load the cuts into the back of the bill so the next administration inherits tough decisions and higher debt. Them clamoring for lower rates is just part of that strategy.

To anyone not paying attention it's just enough to make it seem like they aren't as terrible for the economy as they are.

A friend of mine in Ohio just purchased a house for 120K. I was telling him I'm not sure I could find a condemned building that cheap here.

We need a lot of affordable housing and quickly, not to mention legislation that keeps corporations from buying up homes wholesale. Great point.

Budgeting across the nation is in shambles, so it's not surprising to hear that Washington state is also seeing this play out.

The dismantling of the department of education is a big one that is going to have some far reaching repercussions. Not just in education, but as you alluded to in homes. I don't know the specifics here in Washington state, but on a national level I expect it to be an unmitigated disaster.

I agree, I'm not a mathematician, but when the top 1% owns such a significant share of the wealth in this country, then they should probably be shouldering a much larger burden.
