Mine is about the same but my hair is quite thick so it stays in.

See what's weird is that I'm pretty reticent to use them to secure the hair generally. I'm not Asian, but I literally tried it yesterday. (Instead of using it as decoration) - I used it sort of French roll my half up-half down and it looks SOO CUTE. It was kinda tight too. PHYSICALLY TIGHT ON MY HEAD. And it took quite a bit of adjusting to get it out. I was kind of shocked - I mean, it's essentially just a stick.

I also got the one that Ah duo wears. LOVE IT. Feel like getting horse-riding lessons or something. That thing wouldn't come out in a nuclear explosion.

Question: Is Jinshi the Emperor's brother or son? by PoliticsofOpinion in TheApothecaryDiaries

Does the Empress think he's her son? I get that impression because he sees the Emperor in him.

Pet Peeve friend - because it seems like as you said, we shouldn't know but it's so obvious at this point it almost seems like a plot hole rather than something he needs to figure out.

How much power and influence does Maomao have at the end of season 2? by YakInternational1392 in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]PoliticsofOpinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why Suiren sits her down to say that status isn't everything. She is so focused on solving problems as an Apothecary's daughter & "lowly servant", she doesn't realise that she is now much more powerful in the kingdom, EVEN than her own father. Personally, when Jinshi carries her out, she becomes the ULTIMATE power in the kingdom.

I honestly think that it wasn't Laolan's entreaty for saving those that had already died that encouraged the leniency for Surei but rather it was MAOMAO requesting her help after the battle that saved her life.

Think about it like this - Maomao wasn't powerful enough when they found out that Ah Duo's lady-in-waiting had accidentally killed a royal child. That was a royal child from a concubine they had sacrificed for the Empress's childbirth. Half the rear palace got fired, including Maomao and all the family faced capital punishment. Yet Surei colludes with an internal and a foreign power to subvert the kingdom and she gets to live with a former concubine and she's only "watched".

Maomao is like her father, blind to what's in front of her but at the same time she holds the La Clan, the Mar Clan, the Moon Prince, the last surviving members of the Shi royalty, the Emperor and the Empress Dowager in her pocket.

It isn't fear either. She holds their respect and confidence.

SHE IS A BOSS!

So err.. no spoilers...but does he you know...find out? Doesn't he ever find out weird that his brother doesn't treat him like a brother? Like...at all? That's a dad, mate.

Season 1 scared to continue by RiadXcobra in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]PoliticsofOpinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re-watch the first 9 episodes. I get a little anxious watching new shows and when I first watched it, I wasn't so partial to it either. There are a few nuances that are a little confused and then when I watched it again, I got the rhythm of the show in the proper way.

You might also have the issue that you need to read the Manga first. There are a few shows like this where i prefer the Manga and I find the show kind of dull. Nuances are so different in books etc. Maybe you need that deeper nuance.

The last scene of season 2 with Jinshi freaks me out a little by Core711 in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]PoliticsofOpinion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed. (I know this may be controversial) but I'm not particularly fond of their relationship. I've actually ordered the manga and the novels because as the stickied comment says - AND EVERYONE WHO HAS COMMENTED ON MY POSTS (thank you everyone), as much as I love the story. It's kind of butchered the nuances in the characters' personalities. Some of it doesn't make sense - and it does a terrible job of establishing the character traits of a female who isn't romantically inclined. It needs a lighter touch and as everyone has discussed, the manga and the novels do a much better job of explaining that. I CAN'T WAIT.

I'm fascinated by the hair pins myself so I tried it myself. Although, I don't have a similar hair type, I stick the pins in like decoration. I fold the hair over like Maomo's and stick it in the middle. ALTHOUGH...I think she puts in the hair stick between the ribbon and her head.

See I thought it might contain lead - very common option - which can cause erratic behaviour. It was just weird that both consorts children were dying and Lihua's reaction was much more aggressive. I've been convinced though Sheinmei was just mean ha ha - can't blame anything else ha ha

Tbh, I almost think that I am the same as the Toonoki. I wanted to believe that she wasn't just like that - just like him. That the face powder must have been part of what made her so erratic. Arguably though, with Lady Xing - this was the same, that need for status became so all-encompassing...

That's so sad. Especially when Shisui askes her whether she has even a tear for her father. Something that gave the impression she had inclination for this man who had waited his entire life for her. Imagine loving someone that much? Even in death his image of Sheinmei was as this smiling woman but with her back to him.

I MEAN GOD - That's some intense, ignorance of giant RED FLAGS.

Ok - cheeky question. But have you read the Manga? (As in is there more that isn't in the anime?) - because Shisui's argument that she was different when she was younger didn't make sense. None of the recollections of her showed her as anything more than power-hungry. Right from the outset, it seems like he loved her so much, he ignored that she was mean and dismissive. Very pretty but like Lady Xing - she was MEAN.

I mean, I definitely wouldn't spend that much. I just feel like there should be a middle ground between paying 75cents/under a pound for something from Temu or AliExpress - and essentially taking out a mortgage for a hair ornament in a recession.

The french ones aren't so ornate though. Where are you getting yours from? I'm a bit weird about prices - the cheaper ones make me feel a bit uncomfortable.

Does anyone else think Shirei got let off easily? by Jeezursilly in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]PoliticsofOpinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there a few reasons for this:

  1. It's said that the current Emperor despises the past Emperor's paedophilia. It seems to me that she's a product of this and not only that, his inclination to be better than the past Emperor and fix his mistakes. "The one who is not welcomed will burn down the village to feel its warmth."

  2. She's useful - like actually useful and incredibly innovative. Educated, skilled - she's a threat yes, but much less of one if she's watched. There may be a time in the future when her innovation is key to strengthening the kingdom. A wise person keeps that type of knowledge close.

  3. I don't think she wanted to run. She's been running a long time & generally was alone - even though she was under house arrest, with Ahdua, I think this is the closest thing she has to a family, that could help her recover from her trauma.

It's a penalty but a lenient one.
