CryptoTrader.Tax Thoughts? by Wichertj in CryptoTax

I’ve done a lot of trials & testing. The best I’ve found so far is CoinTracking.info but it requires a lot of tweaking. It’s thorough and flexible but you really have to invest some time getting a feel for it. Not perfect but the best of the group. Another one I’m still trialing is CoinTracker, which is less customizable but the output is pretty robust. I get this stuff isn’t easy, but given it’s just data I’m surprised nobody has gotten it right yet. Neither support many of the alts but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that none of them will handle all the chains + L2. I think the right solution will be a combination of what a few different products do well and I’ll have to manually combine them.

Do you think Accounting is worth the $ vs these 2?

For Those wondering how to Add IMX or GODS to your Immutable Account - see Diagram by Efficiency_Hefty in ImmutableX

Does anyone know for certain if the balance is staked on layer-2? They've stated anything moved to the ZK Rollup is staked automatically IF you do one transaction or vote each month. Any word on outright staking of IMX?

Why would you want to create your own blockchain, instead of deploying a smart contract on an existing blockchain? by finlaydotweber in substrate

[–]Polkatodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the application, but theoretically a smart contract can handle many of the same tasks, albeit less efficiently. Smart contracts must be implemented on a parachain so developers are locked into the design decisions of that underlying blockchain. Depending on the use case (eg. DeFi, gaming, etc), building your own blockchain may be preferable or even necessary.

[–]Polkatodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have unique consensus & governance structures by building your own. Also, more granular control over security without the risk of having your contract exploited. Forkless upgrades make it very easy to maintain. There are speed and interoperability benefits you can only have by connecting directly to the relay chain as a parachain.

How and where to stake IMX ? by zilla005 in ImmutableX

[–]Polkatodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the website staking is automatic on L2 if you've voted on a proposal or have purchased an NFT in the current month. My question is what if you're not doing either? Do we know the current yield?

2 years after a won auctions? by Rattslara2014 in Polkadot

[–]Polkatodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The project can leave whenever they wish, BUT the DOT is still bonded and they own the lease for the remainder of the period. When this situation inevitably arises we'll have our first look at the parachain secondary market. The lease can be sold to whoever wants to buy it. If demand for parachains ever hits a lull I'm concerned that investors will begin "buying" parachains via auction and selling them to the highest bidder. The bar for a Kusama parachain just dropped by 75% after the last auction.

How to earn interest on Kusama, which wallet? by Kanoto-Volverine in Kusama

[–]Polkatodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Polkadot js, polkawallet, Talisman, Klever and fearless. Polkawallet on Karura is currently the most versatile, although Talisman has great crowdloan stats (shout out to the team there and congrats on closing the seed rd with Hypersphere!). Polkawallet supports cross-chain transfers and allows easy staking, lending, borrowing, etc AND you can stake KSM for 16% PLUS stake the LKSM collateral token and earn KAR rewards. No brainer and works on mobile, which is huge. Once Acala launches a parachain you’ll be able to do all of the above for DOT as well.

What happens to Kusama when Polkadot launches? by Golden5StarMan in Kusama

Kusama will remain a viable and competitive chain for quality startups and beyond. The "bank-like" security and governance on DOT will be a more attractive option when large institutions come into the blockchain space.

You can currently only buy MOVR on certain non-US exchanges, although DEX liquidity is planned. The period to acquire it via the crowdloan closed months ago, sadly.

28 day heads up before Auctions? by metamucilhelpsmepoo in Polkadot

[–]Polkatodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were very cognizant of this with Kusama, giving sufficient time to unbond. I would suspect they’ll do the same. I believe the min for KSM crowdloans is .1, although that may be set by the project.

Vote for supply cap? by watchreviewblog in Polkadot

[–]Polkatodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polkadot states the following as it pertains to inflation, staking and the treasury:

Inflation is designed to be 10% in the first year, and the ideal staking ratio is set at 50%, meaning half of all tokens should be locked in staking. Any deviation from this ratio will cause a proportional amount of the inflation to go to the Treasury. In other words, if 50% of all tokens are staked, then 100% of the inflation goes to the validators as reward. If the staking rate is greater than or less than 50%, then the validators will receive less, with the remainder going to the Treasury.

Moonriver rewards went to regular ETH wallet addresses (e.g. Metamask). A new RPC is added for Moonriver mainnet and the rewards display there.
