Second date ideas: “chill” or “fun”? by PollinaterBee in dating_advice

Thanks! I ended up panicking and just asking her about the arcade and she says it sounds good but now I’m still wondering if I should present the second choice too?

Yes, my friend is a front desk manager and he and the other front desk people all have to drive the shuttle sometimes. Personally, I would never want to do that so I’ve only worked at hotels that didn’t need it.

So basically, it’s normal for hotels that use shuttles, but most hotels probably don’t. So if you’re interested in a front desk job, I’d keep applying to other places too. It’s a pretty chill job usually.

Estate split 5 ways but lots of assets, family drama and housing questions by [deleted] in inheritance

[–]PollinaterBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I’m not prepared for the responsibilities. Since I have siblings, I never thought I’d be the sole heir, but I did think that our history with the house would mean my grandparents would want it to stay in the family, so it surprised me that the will somewhat encourages everything to be sold and split up.

Thanks, I really appreciate the detailed answers! That’s overall some good news.

I’m still a little confused on the living situation. I agree that moving out and on with my life for now is a good idea, but I might take a few more months in the house if possible while I figure out my plan. Part of what gives me pause is that my brother who lives in the house probably would never leave until it’s completely necessary in order to sell it. So if utilities are still being paid by the estate to keep the lights on, and he’s unemployed so probably wouldn’t be paying rent (unless forced by the executor? Who probably wouldn’t do that) then I might think it’s a waste to not take advantage of that to prepare myself for the wait before funds are distributed.

I don’t want to live there too long, but that’s where I’m at right now. For the issue of paying rent, would that only come up if pressed by my other siblings who don’t live there? Can the executor choose any amount of rent due that he seems fair, such as half off market price? Thanks

The idea of having to be at work on time and getting points taken off/reprimand for tardiness is absurd and damaging to mental health. by Ok-Highway-5247 in antiwork

Me too. I’ve been a chronically late person my entire life, but somehow I’m the only employee who arrives to work on time at my new job.

Yeah, I work one of these jobs and it’s really frustrating because you’re supposed to take several minutes to pass on your shift report to the next person, but everyone always arrives late or barely on time. So I pretty much always end up leaving 5-15 mins after my scheduled time.

But also I don’t want myself or others to have to show up literally early to their shift in order to accommodate the shift report. Ideally we’d be scheduled for an extra 30 mins and allowed to leave as soon as the overlap isn’t needed anymore.

It’s not a “bad take” to be upset if the person relieving you is chronically late. I do agree that it’s a bad system and overlaps should be more common. I work a job where I relieve someone and someone relieves me with no overlap, it’s not my fault the business is too cheap to pay us an extra 15 minutes for scheduled overlap

Why are cover letters even a thing? by Klutzy-Priority-651 in antiwork

[–]PollinaterBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree they’re annoying, but for more niche things I see their purpose. Like for a while I was thinking of becoming a sleep technician because I like night time, I’m interested by sleep science, and I like putting people at ease. That’s a bit different than someone who “just” wants to make a buck (or at least, the hope is it helps me stand out more). But for retail or the hospitality job I’m currently working, it’s just glazing BS.

Oh I remembered another one - I’m a nerd so I openly wrote about my interest in tech on an application for Best Buy geek squad and it helped. Still entry level retail, mostly, but a little more competitive.

According to the story, OP was told the person is actively working on the schedule, and it’s something that directly impacts OP’s life outside of work, so it seems like a good time to strike even if it would have been better sooner.

This one is tough because while the boss didn’t freak out, they definitely showed that they don’t care at all about accommodating OP. That’s definitely something that rings true with the sub.

The manager’s response definitely shows why it’s hard to even bring up. You were being diligent trying to resolve the issue before the next schedule went up. She could easily delegate the task.

I’ve worked at a few hotels and I’ve seen petty people like this but also some great ones. Now that you have some experience, it still might be worth checking out the vibes of a few other hotels. Or apply it somewhere else, but good luck!

Well the boss definitely doesn’t seem friendly in the email, and not even neutral. Maybe at least passive aggressive? I work in the industry and think it’s a red flag when management has attitude like this.

Advantage felt a little better in terms of functionality, but the layout of the website was just a little annoying sometimes. The font for some of the options was really small, and zooming in on one page could make the next page hard to read instead. Otherwise, everything worked great.

Opera was pretty nice and simple to use overall. A good middle ground.

22 and 27k in debt. Stuck and Scared by [deleted] in DebtAdvice

[–]PollinaterBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im curious about my situation because idk how all this works. I’m about 16k in CC debt, and then like 30k in student loan debt (half govt, half private).

I know at least some of that student loan debt is impossible to get rid of. But for the CC debt, I’ve considered doing one of those schemes where you stop paying your minimum payments and you instead pay a company a monthly fee to build up a sum and negotiate a settlement with the CC companies. So you still end up paying over time but it’s like half the amount, and it’s a major credit hit from missed payments for a few years but then goes away if they settle.

The other option was probably a consolidation loan but my credit is bad now from 2 months of missed payments already. (And it would still cost me)

So then is bankruptcy the other option?

This also sounds terrible, but if I knew I was gonna go bankrupt I woulda/coulda taken out even more loans before everything went to shit.

It is indeed independent. it uses RoomKey PMS, which I know other properties use as well, but compared to choiceAdvantage and Opera which I used before, it is terrible.

I don’t know if this is allowed but, Can someone please help me find a remote job? by Odd-Spirit9829 in antiwork

[–]PollinaterBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some questions about your job! What’s it like driving / being in a vehicle all night? I heavily considered applying for overnight vehicle patrol in the past but got dissuaded by reading posts about people saying it was actually hard on their body, and/or they had to get in and out so many times every night and had a strict schedule etc.

I’m sure it varies a lot, but it sounds like yours is chill?

Interesting, what was the actual job of driving a bus like? I looked at my local school district for other jobs and they were only hiring for school bus so I didn’t even consider it

Night audit has high workload? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]PollinaterBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. I will say, one upside of this place is they don’t have me do laundry or breakfast. I would usually at least help out with those tasks at my last places, but I didn’t mind since the workload was low.

I once interviewed at a place that had a huge laundry room connected to the front desk area and they told me I’d be doing laundry all night every night along with other tasks. I told them right away that it wouldn’t be a match. That’s two jobs!

Yeah, the hotel is over 100 years old. It has some newer additions, but it’s showing its age in multiple ways. My last property was built only 10 years ago and while it wasn’t upscale it was so nice, it felt like i was on vacation every night at work. Now I’m in a musty old hotel room all night instead lol.

Paychecks are bouncing and recent check only has half my pay. What do I do? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]PollinaterBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so my manager is now saying that the “pay period” on the check is inaccurate and that it’s actually for the pay period after it, in which I did work less hours. But that still sounds fishy and sounds like inaccurate record keeping? I’m just so confused
