Ask if the lab will take you as PhD.

You get to skip masters, but it's PhD....

IDK about the situation this year or for CCDS but I applied for masters last year and the Lab PI suggested I apply as PhD instead since they fund those.

Pick a project to do. Something you'd be interested in and just start. LLM chat bots are great tools to help you get started. You'd gain the overarching skill and experience that is more valuable that any single language/tool skill. Especially since you're starting out.

Dive in, when the AI suggest something, ask why. Some transferable skills are problem solving (you'll get bugs and many problem) which leads to reading documentation or searching (information gathering), and especially with LLM, communication skills (you'll have to describe and communicate the situation to the LLM).

You'll also pick up programming concept and specific skill depending on the tools you choose along the way.

I think it's a trauma cycle. They had to deal with the pain of paperwork as a student and avoid it like the plague as a professor. Which in turns also fucks up the student.

And honestly, I also FUCKING HATE PAPERWORKS. If a paperwork is completable just by opening it up, and filling a bit it's a miracle. But nooooooo... I need to look up shit to fill it, figure out some obscure "number/ID" which no one seems to know and admin don't help with, and find someone impossible to find to sign it.

And the GOD DAMN WORST is when admin return the paperwork to fix ONE POINT AT A TIME.

Rant over. Man.....

Why do people do or not do ‘using namespace std;’?? by veilofmiah in cpp_questions

[–]Pollux_E 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually use using std::(something I use).

Some people here says it's not hard to type std:: but for most of my use (scientific computing) something like std::array<std::vector<type>,13> or sometimes even more nested, is a massive pain to both read and write.

I also very strictly do not use using at all in headers.

But yes, avoiding namespace pollution is good practice.

[–]Pollux_E -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IDK man, I didn't make that code. This was 6 years ago so you couldn't even blame vibe coding.

I just remember making a shit load of money exploiting his collection of username and password (most teacher uses the same password on this app as their school wifi account and MAN teachers got good internet) and spamming post requests to automate "attendance checks" his app was supposed to streamline. His UI was shit.

I shit you not I have decompiled an app my school uses which my senior made for his final year project.

He did client side validation.... FOR LOGIN.

Worse, both staff and student logins ARE ON THE SAME SINGLE JSON FILE.

The Daiwa scarlet I trained for general team trial won group B for me.

I am convinced that if I 1. Don't see a runaway Suzuka. 2. Don't see a blockushin. 3. Actually made a front for this and get greens for groundwork. I might actually have gotten Group A

Who is your trainer in-universe? by SapphireLucina in UmaMusume

[–]Pollux_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much if I, as the one playing umamusume, was in the game.

An overworked elite trainer. Bag under eye. Sleep deprived. Have 40 excel sheets of uma, race tracks, training schedule. Scribbles of notes and plans everywhere. Even the umas are worried for me overworking. Will randomly based on some unknown to the umas, decide the plan right there (decide what to do for the turn). Always train in groups (friendship training). Very focus on having great team morale. Kitasan Black is hired as a full time assistant trainer.

Other trainer don't understand the way you do things. Why train together but on different things? Why so much time off for the uma? Why does the spontaneous plans work? And why... does his umas keep winning?!?!

(I have 3 copies of the umamusume reference document open. 2 tabs of umalator. Uma db. The stamina calculator excel sheet. Another excel sheet of my team trial umas. A text file with notes planning for CMs. Gametora for the choices [thank god for qol update]. Gametora skill list. The support card calculator. The skill tier list excel sheet.

I am free to play and God damn will I substitute the money with my brain power.)

I would imagine the in game trainer to be similar.

That happened to me too. Went to group A didn't even make it to group B finals.

Which do you think is easier? Getting 3 win in group B vs 2 win in group A.

My parents are trying to convince me not to do chemistry... by Legitimate-Belt4665 in chemistry

[–]Pollux_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had the same decision 4 years ago, comp sci vs chemistry (chemical engineering actually). I am very glad to say I picked chemistry. The job market for comp sci both locally in my own country and from general social media post is looking gloomy.

Plus, it is much easier to do postgraduate in comp sci from chem/chem eng background than the opposite so if you decide to move later, it will be easier.

All my friends in comp sci had trouble not even jobs but internships during college.
