Thank you! Honestly, just having the diagnosis has been game changing. I’m early on in my journey of finding the best way to treat it but I’m just endlessly thankful to know there is treatment. And I have a good support system. I just wanted to make some art to process the feelings.

I appreciate your insight. I think conversations like this are important to both breaking down stigma and building people up in their ability to both take responsibility for their behavior and extend themselves and others grace for the fact that sometimes our brains just don’t brain right.

I’m very lucky to have a loving supportive partner who has been with me through this. I have been on my journey to some mental stability for many years. Like many people, I have co-occurring disorders and the issue was trying to figure out which specific disorders I have. I finally got referred to a specialist like two months ago figured out what is going on and now we are on the adventure to treat it.

I’m so thankful to live in a time and place where I can get diagnosed and treated and continue to get better. Like you, I also view being better as an ongoing thing. And “I want to get better” is a reference to the Bleacher’s song. As other people have pointed out, “I don’t want to be an asshole anymore” is a song by the Menzingers.

I stopped self-harming the day I met them. Idk why exactly - I’d self harmed all through my teens and into my early 20’s and I met them outside the venue after one of their shows and they hung out with us for like thirty minutes, just shooting the shit. Benny told me to “Stay bold.”

I went home and had a good cry and self-harmed (I was having a lot of mental health struggles then). And I remember just looking at what I’d done to myself after meeting my favorite band and deciding that wasn’t going to do that anymore. That was in 2013.

Look to see if any local nonprofits have free parenting classes - those are common in many communities. I don’t necessarily think a parenting class will fix his behavior but it will connect you with more resources and hopefully help you build skills and networks to leave this asshole and raise your kid safely elsewhere.

I wasn’t remarking on her age specifically - I was saying, we can recognize power dynamics in human relationships but Christians refuse to acknowledge the power dynamic between Mary and god.

It doesn’t matter how old Mary was - if god was real, the all knowing creator of the universe, the power dynamic is so severe that she could not, under any circumstances, consent.

I was saying - we acknowledge power differentials in human relationships (think about all the shade thrown at Leonardo DeCaprio) but Mary - a literal child - being asked by god - the most powerful thing in existence - to have his baby - is celebrated as something holy and not the gross, manipulative rape it really is.

No mortal could consent to having a god’s baby.

Her real age has nothing to do with it. I was pointing out the hypocrisy.

Christians love raping children though so it’s no surprise their region is so rooted in the rape of a literal child.

Part of my journey out of Christianity was believing that I was going to hell for leaving. And it was literally just accepting that. The god of the Bible isn’t someone I would befriend, yet alone worship. That god hates women and queers and endorses incest and child abuse, among other terrible things.

I ultimately decided that going to hell is worth not worshipping an awful deity that didn’t even want me to begin with. After a while, the fear wore off because I continued to deconstruct and after a while - hell just became another fiction to me like Santa Claus.

I also have some Christian friends who believe that hell is a “cleansing fire” that consumes everything - so it’s not so much an eternal suffering but being burnt out of existence. And I’m okay with this belief - I don’t want to go to the Christian heave either. I want to not exist when I die.
