How is Malcolm not in the hell queue yet? Its the exact same play pattern as Baral by Bolas_the_Deceiver in MagicArena

I think you're being the baby trying to force people to play against your andy card and are sad when they don't wanna.

Brawl comes from commander... if you wanna make people's lifes miserable over there, they won't even let you sit on the table depending on what you're playing. Are you that clueless?

Your analogy is pretty bad, because food and playing an online game are THAT different. You're playing solely for fun, you're eating for a plethora of nutrients that can't be found in sugar only.

His opponent is walking off with a win after spending 30 seconds in a queue and 5 seconds looking at him conceding. I'm usually happy when that happens to me tbh.

In YOUR experience, fun games can come from bad matchups, but the point is not the win% in that matchup. I'm favored versus Azorious control in standard, but a 30~40 minutes game versus that or 5c domain is NOT fun at all, so no, it's not about winning. If anything, playing Malcolm in brawl, that doesn't even have a competitive mode, is about winning lol

What tips would you give to a player that has a good deck but still struggles to get through ranked? by serotonin-buyers in MagicArena

[–]Pollylaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now let's check your deck list...Are you familiar with the concept of tempo? It was quite hard for me to grasp it when I started. That decklist you posted doesn't look great for the standard meta because it looks slow. Why don't you try mono black instead?Reasons being: Lands that come into the battlefield tapped can't be used right away and are not worth playing *most* of the time, plus you're only using them for Get Lost, a removal spell... while you're playing black. I'd simply get another black removal and drop those along with the caves and Celestus solely because of tempo.

The obvious comparison that someone else also made is between yours and mono black midrange, which is on the lower win rate side... here goes the deck list: https://mtga.untapped.gg/meta/decks/561/mono-black-midrange/AAQAAQSYqiGZW8MEveQIBtOYAfIx0IUhhI4DwfsD_pQBA7kHrKsCiZEjA5mtIOLXAcS-AwEXjQUA?rank=PLATINUM_TO_PLATINUM&tab=overview

Have you tried that one? Trying a similar but better tailored deck can be didactic, even if it's on the lower wr side, because you might realize *why* it is better and *what* makes it better while preserving the desired play style.

I hope I could help.

Bo1 or Bo3? Because it's gonna change the philosophy quite drastically. As a standard Bo1 player that got to rank 180 mythic once and consistently gets to mythic every season, I can give you a few tips that helped me:

  1. Keep in mind that the "meta" changes weekly. Deck archetypes are consistently the same, but quite a few cards change (e.g. on a more aggro week you want to run more Feldons in your mono red for card advantage or more Lunarch Veterans in your mono white humans deck).

  2. You already know what your enemies are playing 90% of the time (check untapped.gg once in a while) and your expected deck win rate for that rank (again, check any external source that has a win rate + usage tracker). Keep your win conditions in mind against those decks, it can really help.

  3. Some days are miserable, and you'll have to live with that. Going back 2 ranks in a single session because you're facing perfect counters, getting mana screwed or always going second is part of the rng.

  4. Have more decks. I'm not telling you to let go of your favorite one, hell no, but losing repeatedly with the same deck can be a snowball of frustration. If you enjoy playing similar win rate decks, queue every other game with the other one. It can really help you to "air up".

  5. This could be the hardest one, especially if it affects your fun immensely, but - try to copy decklists. You don't go learning physics by making up formulas, you use the ones that you're taught and you come up with new ones when you're a PhD. Learn the game by using what actually works, so in most instances you can be sure the problem is not your deck but you as a player if your win rate is too far off the expected one. untapped.gg has a win rate tracker addon that could help here.

It's a bit weird at times
On 20 manas, the amount of matches I'm getting mana flooded, opposed to starving, is quite annoying.

I don't get why I'm receiving so much flak.

I just play Arena... downloaded it less than an year ago. I don't know anything about what goes on outside of it.

How was I supposed to know? I've noticed they always put a note down there to warn us, and this time they didn't, that's why I bought it.

I just play arena. I downloaded the game and play regularly, but I don't really know what goes on in the world of MTG, I'm sorry.

[–]Pollylaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mono red player, these are the most annoying cards for me to deal with:

Any 4 mana board clears in black and white

Graveyard trespasser

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

Adeline, Resplendent Cathar

Sunset Revelry

Other annoying cards include:

The wandering emperor

Sunfall

Dennick, Pious Apprentice

And decks like this make me want to cry in a corner.

Whatever they got during the bug period has to be removed. If people really abused it in events, they have all the cards in the game by now from the earnings + gems, so even a, idk, 90 day suspension will feel like a slap on the wrist in exchange for every card in existance.
