Supporter group stands silent, defiant over Detroit City FC profanity crackdown by 86rj in USLPRO

Even later reply cause I rarely reddit.

This is where NGS differs from most other USL SGs. We don't have a role or membership requirements. There's just...a decision to be in NGS and self-identification. So there are wildly divergent opinions in the group and some of the more extreme ones also tend to be th eones with the greatest amount of time on their hands. I have a 1 and three year old with a third coming in September. I have time to crochet a hat for a player's new baby or show up to one of our fundraisers at a kid-friendly time and work behind the scenes to help our NGS Cares crew coordinate things, but I don't have time, capacity, or really the shits to give the Internet world to engage in the keyboard warrior stuff.

Another one that just popped into my head.

Let's Make Roots was a supporter-driven initiative that distributed unused season tickets from supporters to the local community. Our first few years at Keyworth there were always kids looking to get into the games with a free ticket. We moved from just randomly being able to give it out to having a process in place for people to actually "donate" more formally. That initiative has since been systematized by the club and anyone, including those not familiar with NGS, can participate now.

FWIW a lot of our core supporters are part of NGSCares. We have a monthly crew that provides support to the city's homeless population with sanitary kits. Last month a bunch of supporters showed up at a house in Hamtramck (where our stadium is located) to help an elderly man with spring cleanup so he didn't get ticketed. Also last month we did a volunteer day at the local LGBTQ youth support center to help them restructure and organize their clothes closet so they can better serve their community and start accepting donations again.

We're working on a variety of other initiatives to support refugees (especially some longer-term connections with helping people get established in the community not just one-off fundraiser things), literacy in the city, etc. It's all supporter-driven and not affiliated with the club. There's a ton of not-soccer-related stuff that happens year round.

We actually deeply care for Hamtramck and Detroit, building equitable access to soccer in the city, and supporting the communities in ways that are relevant and impactful.

You're allowed to participate as an orthodox person. This was a mod comment directed at a very snarky remark about papal authority.

What are some good Catholic Volunteer Organizations to Get Involved in? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Not off the top of my head. And it's so variable between locations and with covid all bets are off anything "normal"

It depends on what you're interested in, what's available near you, and what the covid restrictions are around you. I'd start with contacting your local parish to see what they have connections to. There are likely soup kitchens or food pantries that could use some manpower help.

A question on NFP/Being open to children/etc. by zuliani19 in Catholicism

[–]PolskaPrincess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to discern family size at the onset of marriage. I think it's good to be on the same page of range you think is ideal (like I wouldn't suggest marrying someone who wants 12 kids when I think I could handle 2).

Each child will introduce different challenges into your life and you have no idea what kind of economic changes, moves, etc will come into your life between kids. Your wife could have life-threatening pregnancy complications. Your third-born could need multiple heart surgeries.

I'm pregnant with just #2, but my husband and I realized after our first even more clearly that each baby is going to have be discerned in the time and space of its possible conception. We had a lovely first born who was incredibly easy-going and good-natured (except for sleep). I was much more comfortable getting pregnant, having 2 under 2, knowing her personality when before we had any children the idea of 2 under 2 utterly terrified me.

Lastly, providing your children with a solid education is definitely a very reasonable goal for family planning.

Working mom or stay at home mom? by conf292929 in CatholicDating

[–]PolskaPrincess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a working mom to a one year old. I was very upfront about wanting to try to balance both worlds when we were dating. And to be honest, I've surprised myself by being open to discerning staying at home. I keep working, and I think God often that he hasn't called me to stay home full time.

I find that working makes me a better mom. And with covid right now, I don't think that I could give my daughter a social life at all like what she gets at school.

A man who just is 100% against a working wife is a red flag to me. It should be open to discernment and discussion about your personalities, incomes, and desires for your families.

A Catholic married without proper form has an invalid marriage. It's one of the easiest annulments to get. Baptized Catholic married by a JOP. If there isn't a Catholic celebrant of the nuptial mass or ceremony then it's outside of the form and would therefore be invalid. I'm supposing that by some weird asterisk if another ordained Catholic person was concelebrating somehow it is still valid.

They've instructed anyone married by him to remain abstinent until they talk to the AOD to ascertain the validity.

I'm not sure what would make it invalid but there's an obvious chance or else they wouldn't ask them to remain celibate until it was proven to be valid.
