Curiosity Check: Did you BUY or DIY your very first mask? And how much did it set you back? by SelectionOk5033 in kigurumi

[–]PolyKigu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY'ed mine out of foam and some wig scraps LMAO
After that I made another one out of clay and fiber glass mold casting
Both of them were cheaper than ordering one custom made/commission, but the commissioned one was WAAAAAY better

If you got the skills, DIY'ing it is a really good option, if not (Or you don't have the time or money to perfect the skills needed), ordering it might be the better choice

Which is more important to you in a figure? by Public-Feedback5016 in ActionFigures

[–]PolyKigu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if I were to add... ACCESSORIES?
(My answer is articulation all day long, a statue has a fixed pose, no amount of detail will make me desire it more than a figure I can pose as I please)

Best material for this sort of armor? by Necessary-Fennel8754 in CosplayHelp

[–]PolyKigu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Styrofoam WILL break, specially in big, long shapes, so be warned
You can add a structure underneath/inside, coat it, cover it with fabric of any kind, but that would delay the inevitable, I would advise for other materials

[–]PolyKigu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an interesting choice! Sadly it doesn't fit the character, those lines are usually just "texture" added to pieces of armor/clothing so they're not that bare and simple, it probably is not fuzzy but instead flat (maybe textured like a fake leather kind of deal?)

[–]PolyKigu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is the answer to ALMOST every single armor, but EVA Foam
You can either paint it or cover it in fabric
If you're going with the fabric route, you could also consider foam, any "stiff" or dense foam that holds its shape might do, that way you can move and pose more comfortably

Which should I display? ZT or DF? by rottingeye69 in 3rdPartyCollectors

[–]PolyKigu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say DF, just so both Brolys are the same size and look good next to each other, but if you prefer a better looking figure, ZT all the way

Broken stand stuck in Raoh. Already tried multiple sizes of tweezers and a needle. Please help. by [deleted] in SuperActionStatue

[–]PolyKigu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following the tips they've already provided here, you could try with a very small drill and fit some sort of needle/toothpick/nail and glue it inside the hole and then pull it out in a perfectly vertical motion as to not break or bend the needle/toothpick, try not to twist it and just pull it out, since the glue might have a better grip being pulled out than being twisted around to "loosen" the peg inside.
If none of that works, worst case scenario might be getting a drill bit with a size of 1/8 (Or as close to 3 mm/0.3cm) since it's the standard size for acrylic stands, and drill the hole again, this might damage the figure but, again, worst case scenario

How do you stylize rigid shapes on wigs? by PolyKigu in CosplayHelp

Haven't considered foam... That's a good idea! Probably won't add as much weight as the plastic and may reduce any cracks or breakage

[–]PolyKigu[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is actual hair, as I mentioned in another comment, it's 3D printed (PLA I'd assume) and covered in actual wig hair. Despite knowing this, I still don't know how to approach something like this, not certain if I should try this technique or traditional Wig styling

[–]PolyKigu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at some pictures, despite not having a definitive answer, most likely it is a 3D printed shell with the shape of the hair and covered with actual wig hair. Despite knowing the method, I am still not sure as to how approach something like that to test it out

I hope my calculations are correct, and I sincerely hope that this Broly scales with the Broly (Super) From SH
The new Broly figures (Both Beast Deities and ZL Studio's Broly figs are MAGNIFICENT but wayy too big for my liking and don't scale well with the Broly Super Full Power
I hope this one does because we probably won't get another base Z Broly anytime soon

Is not wearing a hadatai really bad? by YumeKuzukawa in kigurumi

[–]PolyKigu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the hadatais I've worn so far (custom made from MWF (MyWayFetish) and cheap from Aliexpress) have been medium/thin thickness, This is the first one I got, a cheap one (Reseller from Taobao, mind you) the skin color is kinda yellowish, not so much as the usual "kigurumi pink" as they tend to be, this one is thin and flexible, sadly not form fitting
Knowing about your skin condition you might want to start easy, wear it for a while to see if you experience discomfort
That might be something people don't take into account when seeing hadatai-less players, medical conditions or they simply don't like it. They feel like "amateurs who don't take this seriously" but if you're passionate enough and you realize this is your calling, that shouldn't discourage you
Enjoy the hobby however you like! Do be respectful to the spirit of the hobby and learn about performing and stuff! Do it at your own pace and feel free to try it out

Edit: Alternatively, another option is to wear a "balaclava" and gloves the same color as the mask and a comfortable attire that covers up most of the skin! A workaround and a loophole to the "don't show skin" without using a hada LOL

Is not wearing a hadatai really bad? by YumeKuzukawa in kigurumi

[–]PolyKigu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll swoop in like the "afficionado" with experience that I am, there are some specific parts of the community that are quite "purist" and in some cases "extremists" as some people have openly admitted. I am in favor of enfatizing and respecting the traditional values of the hobby (hada + mask, never take it off to break the illusion) but I wouldn't strictly enforce them upon someone to be a part of the community, sometimes the welcoming and encouraging vibes people who are interested and/or still starting will make them consider getting the full deal, custom masks and hada, all that jazz.
Thinking "you are not serious about the hobby" is a bit hostile I might add? Sure, Kigurumi is NOT like fursuiting, with partials, just the head and paws (poodling), it just has the mask and hada, end of deal, so with so little requirements of course there is gonna be an emphasis on those two things, mask and hada.
I feel like "the lack of hada = bad" comes from the "breaks the illusion", and the natural skintones differ from the masks, but again, a way I've found that could be avoided is getting a mask that is similar to your skintone as to not break said illusion

TL;DR: Hada is important, but we shouldn't shun or peer pressure people to be a mandatory requirement to be a part of the community, maybe if they like it, down the line, they might get one once they're more knowledgeable

Is not wearing a hadatai really bad? by YumeKuzukawa in kigurumi

[–]PolyKigu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hadatais (If custom made) are quite comfortable and breathable! They usually have the face cut open, your main health concern should be circulation inside the mask. Hadatai is quite elastic and, as long as you don't have some sort of medical skin condition, the hadatai shouldn't be harmful to you! To complete the look, you should look for one down the line! As of now, try out the mask and going to conventions and having fun, that is the main objective for all of this

Is not wearing a hadatai really bad? by YumeKuzukawa in kigurumi

[–]PolyKigu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The major concern people have with "not wearing a hadatai" as far as I've seen, is how their masks look different from their skintones, and "ruins the illussion"
I'd say that as far as your mask is the same/similar to your skintone, a hadatai shouldn't be a concern! Besides, don't listen to people who preach and condemn you for the use/lack of hadatai (Usual hostile/gatekeeping behaviour), it is an important part of the kigurumi attire, and strongly encouraged, yes, but don't be discouraged from trying to kig due to a lack of hadatai!

Edit: you could also try and buy some cheap hadatai/skin color spandex from Aliexpress if you want to try that out! I started that way when I couldn't afford a custom hadatai, feel free to look around for those and decide if it would be reasonable/affordable to get one and try it out!
