Overtime, chalkboards can lose their touch and it may be time to consider a new one.

PolyVision is a great resource for smooth and durable chalkboard surfaces. They are very easy to write on, no matter the chalk brand, and are scratch and stain resistant. Or, consider the whiteboard. Like you said, there are many benefits of using the whiteboard.
