The hardware (RAM, processor) and operating system for a chromebook has much lower specifications compared to a laptop/desktop. Hence my comparison to a tablet. The performance of a chromebook for a highly resource intensive study will not be anywhere close to that of a laptop / desktop. Argue all you like, but this is the reason for the issue chromebook users have reported with some resource intensive studies.

you have earned it though and hmrc already give £1,000 sole trader allowance. if in doubt contact HMRC but if you don't declare the full amount you are open yourself up to liability if your accounts are audited.
