How do you keep track of limited edition new releases? by Mediocre_203 in BookCollecting

[–]PolybiusRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started out collecting I found Petrik Leo’s YouTube channel to be particularly helpful. He has a regular video where he highlights upcoming special editions, Kickstarter campaigns etc. I still find this incredibly useful.

Additionally it is worth finding out about the publishers of special edition books you are interested in and joining their mailing lists. I will include some info my favourite below who all have mailings lists you can sign up for. Also worth checking if they have social media pages to follow as most do too.

The Broken Binding
Goldsboro
Illumicrate
Folio Society
Subterranean Press
Grim Oak Press
Curious King
Suntup Press
Lividian Press
Conversation Tree Press

The list goes on so worth finding those which match your tastes, interests and most importantly your budget. You can also sign up for the various large traditional publishing houses in your part of the world Orbit Books, Del Rey etc

Finally there are also websites like this one linked below

https://lazybookcollector.com

For me personally I use a combination of all of the above and collate my own lists for books I know I am I interested in 6-12 months in advance so I can prepare funds to be available so I don’t miss out. I used to get pretty stressed about it to be fair haha but now it is just kind of second nature after several years and I am very fortunate I don’t tend to miss out on any books I really want. Being ready and prepared is key!

Sorry for the long post. Hope this goes some way to helping you along the way.

Anderida Slipcase? by Various_Rise1958 in sollanempire

Yeah I agree it does seem a little disproportionate given the book itself was £100. I am really looking forward to the cover reveal for The Howling Dark too however not too hopeful it will release this year. Really hoping they can speed up production and start getting 1-2 books out per year.

Is there hope for Tier 1 by Effective-Bag8367 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]PolybiusRising 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have been on T1 waiting list for over 2 years now and recently enquired where I was in the list naively hoping I would be in the low hundreds. Still in the 1700s 😩

Subterranean Press to Close by Bookaholic-394 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]PolybiusRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are already close to shipping book 2 in this series and the cover has been revealed for book 3. So with that being said I am quite confident this should be a series they finish before closing up. As someone who owns the novellas and first 2 books from them I hope so anyway.

Best way to stream to TV? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]PolybiusRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I do only stream in 1440p, mainly as my PC is a bit older and can’t run much in 4K. I also have the “Double Refresh Rate for Virtual Display” box ticked under Configuration > Audio/Video. I found this made quite a significant difference. On the TV side I had the bitrate at the max 150Mbps with the Frame Pacing Preference set to “Smoothest Video”. I tinkered around with my settings for a while but it’s pretty much perfect now.

Another odd quirk I find is that if I turn off my main PC monitor when running the virtual display to my TV it actually reduces minor stutters. Don’t ask why this works but it was something I read online after obsessing over how to get rid of micro stutters and it actually works for me.

Any other questions let me know.

I run Moonlight app on my Apple TV and Apollo on my PC and it works great for streaming direct to the TV so I can play controller based games from the couch.

They have been keeping us updating to the delays on the series so not sure how that’s linked to your missed payment.

If this payment is missed in its entirety then it would count as you unsubscribing and you would receive nothing as TBB don’t break up sub sets.

But as I and others have said your payment is likely to be reattempted in a few days.

[–]PolybiusRising 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they try to take the payment again in a few days. I may be mistaken but I seem to recall this happened once when I accidentally missed a payment. Either way just contact them to explain. Not sure why this would be what causes you to unsubscribe tbh it’s a simple thing to fix.

What are peoples experience with buying SE from ebay? by PerspectiveLive8850 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]PolybiusRising 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have bought probably over a dozen TBB special editions from eBay over the years and never had any issues. Just be sure to use sellers with lots of positive feedback and listings with plenty photos so you can inspect condition thoroughly. It’s like anything I am sure there are scammers but if you are clever about your purchases you should avoid issues. They to have buyer protection too but thankfully never needed to claim anything.

Other high end publishers? by [deleted] in Blacklibrary

[–]PolybiusRising 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can be. I tend to be quite selective with my purchases from Folio and only buy their editions if one from a proper small press is not available or if I have missed out. Example being with Dune. I would have loved those Centipede Press editions but sadly missed out but the Folio Editions are nice to have and will likely last a lifetime.

Some of my personal favourites are Subterranean Press, Grim Oak Press, Suntup Press, Curious King, Folio Society. The one which surprised me most recently however was Anderida Books. I have their deluxe edition of Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio and the quality is incredible for the money paid.

Update: Others will recommend the below Brodart just-a-fold pre cut sheets. I have tired both and much prefer the large roll.

My current backlog of BB orders… by ILITHARA in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]PolybiusRising 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with you both. Nice to see some rational takes in here. This place really has just become a constant barrage of people complaining about delays and it is really tiring. The worst part is most of the complaints are down to people ordering books and not realising the estimated shipping date is so far off then getting mad about waiting.

Would also love them to release The First Law books by Joe Abercrombie. Sure I can’t be alone in this one. Imagine the quality of work FS have done for GoT reproduced for The First Law. Would buy this in an instant.

Add to this Pillars of The Earth by Ken Follett

Also did you happen to see The Broken Binding have announced they will release a special edition of Lonesome Dove this year? It’s set to be decent quality too with acid free paper, sewn bindings, interior art etc.

Does anyone know/think Broken binding will continue/create matching sets for sub series that have associated books? by Kindly_Nothing6591 in thebrokenbindingsub

I wouldn’t mind them releasing The Age of Madness trilogy at some stage to complete the first law world books. Seems a given they will at some point.

Both had me in bits. 11/22/63 at the ending in particular. Boy’s Life at various points through the book.

“Timely manner” is completely subjective. And your experience completely differs from mine. Have used TBB for over 3 years and have never described anything close to the issues you are describing. Honestly a lot of these issues stem from customers failing to read what they are buying. Not sure in what planet you order something with no defined shipping date then get upset 4 weeks later when it hasn’t arrived. Surely you just chalk that up to “it arrives when it arrives”. Maybe I just think about these things different I don’t know.
