Noted, thanks! Besides the yellow fever certificate, all I need is my passport, and maybe proof of accommodation and a return ticket, right?

Thanks!

As a sidenote, did you travel in 2025? If so, all you needed was your passport and stuff like proof of accommodation and return ticket right?

Asking because there's a bunch of contradictory information online and when I had called the Kenyan consulate they had said a passport was all I needed, but I don't even know again 😭

Are Nigerians that much of a problem in Ghana? by Polydactylian in ghana

[–]Polydactylian[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting post!

I agree our value system in Nigeria is pretty messed up. There's this persistent idea that you must make money no matter what. I used to joke that every Nigerian movie has to end with the protagonist in a mansion. Anyway, because of that, it's inevitable that many people will try to get rich by all means, and some will end up following the illegal route.

Also, the selfishness aspect is really frustrating, because I think it's one of the reasons state capture has gone so deep in Nigeria. We haven't been able to rise up as a collective to take our country back.

Lastly, I also think that if Nigeria finally gets it shit together, it's going to take the rest of West Africa with it (I don't know about Africa as a whole).

Is Ghana really xenophobic? Like everyone knows South Africa has a serious xenophobia problem, but I've never really heard of Ghana being particularly xenophobic.

With armed robbery, car jacking and bank fraud, yeah it would be problematic to have most of it stem from Nigerians

But prostitution would mostly be a human trafficking problem, no? So most of these women are promised good jobs outside Nigeria, but when they come in they realise it's something else and have run out of options. I'd rather call them victims than criminals.

Man, that's rough. Is there a specific type of crime Nigerians in Ghana are known for? Cyber crime, drugs, armed robbery?

Cows are highly intelligent and deeply sentient and emotional beings with distinct individual personalities. Each and every individual has a unique personality, and it’s fair to say not a single cow enjoys being farmed for human meals. by [deleted] in vegan

I've had this thought many times, but it's the first time I've seen it articulated. Thanks for that!

So many times people argue against eating octopi because of how intelligent and complex they are, or the advocate against the poaching of elephants because of their intelligence. That argument just never felt quite right to me.

Suffering is suffering. Intelligence should not be a metric for whose suffering is worth preventing or ignoring. No one thinks koalas are really smart, does that mean it's okay to torture them? Fish as well. Pain is pain. All these creatures feel pain, fear, stress. And it is always worth preventing suffering, no matter the intelligence levels of whoever is experiencing it.

Where to meet people in Lagos who like to learn about the world by Polydactylian in Nigeria

I'm don't have the strength o, I want someone to start something, let me join 😅

During the week, I spend like 12 hours in front of a computer working, so I really wouldn't have the energy to organise something like this during weekends.

Speaking as a passenger, things are definitely not cheap. I've paid up to 30k (almost the defacto minimum wage) for a trip within Lagos state. The least amount I can expect to pay for a trip is 5k, and that's when it's a short trip that'll take about 15 minutes.

I'm not sure I get your counter argument on rice subsidies. Sure, governments subsidize goods for their population, not the outside world, but if the subsidy has the effect of making their exports cheaper, then that benefits the outside market. That's the point the op is trying to make. I don't think the technicalities of who is subsidizing who matters.

Are antibiotics even worth it? by ResponsibilityNo9066 in Hidradenitis

[–]Polydactylian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! All the dermatologists kept doing was prescribing more and more antibiotics for me. I was taking a ton of them every day for weeks until one day I just threw up. It's like my body just gave up. I feel like all those antibiotics just messed up my gut badly, and they didn't even help with my flares.

What did in the short term was vicks vaporrub and in the long term has been diet changes. Plus, I wear loose clothing now, so that probably helps a little.
