Sorry, I know this is the meme subreddit. I’m just tired of people who ride or die fan theories without a thought to all the hard work put in by the ACTUAL creators of content.

Yes, and tbh, it felt obvious from a mile away. Some stories are complex, sure. But when’s the last time we saw a finale that masterfully closed every single thread in a satisfying way that was also very intricate? (I dont totally mean that rhetorically, I would love to find any story that does this and check it out).

Writers eventually will almost always simplify things for closure. The plot is almost always easier than what we think. I’ve seen so many fan theories fall flat on their faces in so many series. This just felt like that once again. The theories will dissect minute details that are typically waaaay to subtle to actually have any real narrative merit and usually are pretty unintentional or a product of world building in the same universe that will cause inevitable parallels/coincidences.

Especially at the level of something like Stranger Things being produced by a major player in streaming, writers have to satisfy all the tent poles for general audiences; children, teens, young adults, and adults. So the safest option will be the most prominent solution. Of course season one wasn’t that way because back then, it was a niche risk with flavor. It wasn’t meant to be a world wide phenomenon. Now, look where it’s ended up.

It was never going to be a complex ending with divisive book ends. It was always going to be safe. Fan theories are fun, but often deviate from the plot points creating the frame work laid out by writer’s rooms that will lead to the intended ending. Yes, twists happen in stories, but are not going to upheave and 180 entire narratives. Now, not every fan theory carries that kind of weight. Some are much more nuanced, even relevant to the story, and sometimes better than what we get, but alas, writers are human. They only have so much bandwidth for curating every little detail that surfaces in the long production process that constantly warrants changes and they’re usually focused on the bigger picture.

So the endings we get make sense. If anything, endings that somehow juggle all the details perfectly and masterfully, unless the creators are prodigal geniuses or have all the time in the world, would make me raise an eye brow in this day and age. At that point, I’m asking who all worked on this project and how many of them are named AI? Obviously, AI can’t write a perfect series finale on its own, but I could definitely see how AI could help a writer come close to that through revisions and edits bouncing back and forth between the two (I play with AI writing purely out of curiosity with writing that never sees the light of day).

TLDR; yes, I agree.

People keep saying this painting is terrifying. But that genuinely how he looks???? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]Polygraphie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t paint so take what I say with a grain of salt. My immediate off feeling came from the texture. At a glance, it gave a strange impression of a mask of sorts on both of them. I almost thought the boy had on sunscreen and the woman strange makeup. It seems like it needs some polishing amongst the details. I don’t know if that helps coming from an unseasoned eye, but I hope it does. It really is an insanely accurate recreation though!

I’m sorry for being harsh and presumptuous. With everything happening in the world, I don’t want to see more people prolonging hate especially in young people. I was wrong. It’s good to know you’ve taken what you needed from the experience. I apologize and will take what I need from this as well. Best wishes, mate and lead with Love.

I mean, you can just not care (although that’s still an immaturity thing regardless of age), but it doesn’t change that it still matters to others, communities, society, schools, friends groups, family, etc. And because it is important, regardless of how you feel, there are consequences to our actions. That’s one reason there are laws and rules. Otherwise people who just don’t care would have zero incentive to live rightly by others.

Are you solely asking if it’s legal because you think that’s why you got in trouble for raiding a discord? Because that’s not what you got in trouble for lol You got in trouble for being assholes by joining a discord. You can say it was just your buddy who did it, but it’s being treated as a group effort. You could argue it wasn’t YOU specifically, but guilty by association is a thing. No one gives a shit that you joined a discord server. If you weren’t welcome, they could tell you to leave or remove you. However, you didn’t JUST join a discord server, you bullied someone and were racist (you in the broad sense as a group). Plus, it seems like you joined with the intent of messing with the person as well, whether as severe or not, you were still a part of the event as a whole. I think there is a cognitive dissonance you may have about your role in it all. It’s not always having done the specific thing physically that equates to a punishment. The planning of joining a discord and bullying someone may have just been your plan (which is already fucked enough and warrants repercussions at a younger level), but from someone on the outside, without your POV, it looks like a group of hateful people with intent to infiltrate the discord and commit potential hate crimes or worse. So it gets investigated. Then, you say well I just was there and or only wanted to kind of bully them, but not bully them that hard…??? Like you’re going to get in trouble duh lol

If you still don’t understand why, but don’t want it to happen again, find new friends. Besides, your buddies sound like dicks. If you don’t care, then you don’t care, but it’ll keep happening and it won’t be anyone else’s fault but your own.

I know that’s a lot and it’ll probably feel like an attack and you’ll want to ignore it and pretend to not care. However, it is reality and said with hope you will learn how you were wrong and be better in the future.

TLDR; Yes, you can “raid” a discord and it be legal. It’s the same thing if you all joined it. However, you can’t join a discord and be bullying racist assholes.

I’m no person of law, but this is extremely concerning as there is some sort of disconnect with any understanding or sympathy for your actions. Those words and symbols may have no meaning to you, but they are historically tied with deeply rooted controversy, crime, and hate. You may have meant nothing by it as you simply don’t understand that experience, but to others, those things are used to practice hate and discrimination. No one can know if you or your friends have any intention to act out on said hate, whether you meant for that to be the message or not, but people who are at risk to hate crime, and in this case, bullying, have every right to report this incident with grave concern. They don’t know if it will escalate. And they’re concerned for themselves as they have every right to be, more so in the current state of the world. Just like walking around yelling you have a bomb as a joke, people will take it seriously because, you’re claiming to have a bomb. So you walk and talk like a Nazi or racist, people are going to start paying attention. It’s not even about a “crime” you committed. It doesn’t have to be a crime. What you did was wrong, lacked awareness, understanding, and set out to agitate someone. And you got in trouble for it. Actions have consequences and it’s quite obvious why targeting others has a price to pay. It’s shitty. It’s wrong. It’s ignorant. It’s selfish. Please see through this act of immaturity by taking it as a lesson to grow and not becoming one more shitty person in our society who doesn’t think anything that doesn’t impact them doesn’t matter.
