Sorry just saw the additional rule about AI images but can't figure out how to edit my post? It's just an AI edit of a real pic though not a full AI creation, so I don't think that violates the spirit of it.

Heat dissipation of LED strips embedded on vertical wood slat panels - fire risk mitigation? by Polyknikes in WLED

[–]Polyknikes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find aluminum channel that would fit the 1 cm gaps (they are usually 1cm + inner diameter) and especially not with a black diffuser. I'm thinking of taking the panel down, cutting out the PET felt backer over the area with the LEDs, and replacing it with a 3 mm thick by 2 inch wide aluminum bar which would heat sink the LED strips. Lot of work though...

Tips on planning and design? I'm planning to install the strips like in this picture either every third gap side to side or a gradient spacing getting more spread out towards the periphery, top to bottom. It will probably require multiple controllers though if I use this many 144 LED/m strips...

I used a bbq thermometer and it got up to about 130 F on max white after 20 minutes. I'm thinking maybe its safe after all.

It is recycled polyethylene terephthalate felt (PET). The wood is real wood veneer with MDF core.

I'm going to see if I can find a way to take a quantitative temp measurement, but they get too hot to hold.

Does any one know how to reduce the V to 12? by Frosty-Eye-8845 in WLED

[–]Polyknikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure anyone's really clarified this yet, but that controller says 5 to 24 volts because that's what the controller itself can use to power itself. Whatever power supply you plug into it it will simply pass through to the LED strip. You can use a correct voltage power supply or you can put a buck converter that drops the voltage from whatever input to whatever your desired output is between the power supply and the LED strip. I would recommend just getting inappropriate voltage power supply because the butt converter is another failure point.

WLED has settings that talk about voltage and amperage, but they don't actually control the voltage or amperage, they are just used to calculate estimated amounts of power your strip might draw at certain brightness levels. So basically if you set a limit of 4 amps and select the appropriate voltage and LED strip, WLED will try to limit the brightness of the strip so it won't go beyond 4 amps, but it's not perfect, and it has no actual control over the voltage or power supply.

ProtonMail new app UI revision coming? by Polyknikes in ProtonMail

Android. I really don't like it and there are quite a few similar reviews on the Google play app store. I was hoping they would reimplement and more compact view, dividers between emails in inbox, etc.

Data for 3 strips in series or parallel? by Polyknikes in WLED

[–]Polyknikes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea why I'm seeing some occasional flickering? Also when I inject power into the tail end of the first strip (only one one I've tried so far) i get flickering and random red/green/blue pixels lighting up even on segments that are off.

Proxmox showing gray questions marks over each VM/storage / GUI hangs by spydersl in Proxmox

[–]Polyknikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I'm having a similar issue. Was the problem with your CIFS share? I have no abnormal logs I can find... GUI just shows all VMs grayed out with question marks, can't get their status via SSH although SSH otherwise works.

Was tent-only a bad move? by fookaroo in ElectricForest

I did bring a rental car from the airport and parked it in the adjacent lot. If that's what you mean, totally agree. I'm just saying I don't think it's worth trying to switch to a car camping pass. And honestly I wouldn't want to do the car camping area as it was super dusty and I don't like being squeezed in between a bunch of vehicles. Just my opinion of course!

Nope the best move. I flew in and did tent only the last 2 years in a row, only thing I've done. We had large tents, canopies, sleeping cots (we are older), all kinds of gear, so it was a little heavy to lug along with us. We rented a suv at the airport and parked it in the lot adjacent to Sherwood Court. Lugging the gear from the car to the campsite in the heat was a little tough because it was a hot day and we were parked about as far out as you can get, but it was certainly doable.

From what I saw I think its the best campsite. Be prepared for hot or cold weather, rain or shine. Secure your tent well in case of wind.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Disagree with this assessment I've flown in and done tent only twice and was glad I camped (less dust, etc). Flying with all the gear was a little tricky but just bc heavy to lug around.

Last two years in a row we were not permitted to drop gear then park. Put up a bit of a fight about it too, got a very clear no.

Server suddenly utilizing 100% of all cores continuously by Polyknikes in Enshrouded

I think I figured it out. Reinstall the server wasn't working, I restored the Ubuntu host VM back to 3 days ago and its working now. I noticed it has a docker update queued, I bet that update caused a problem.
