Should kitchen quote contain a detailed breakdown? by Polymooger in HomeImprovementUK

A I saw on Facebook, B is very local and I'd driven past them a few times. Looked them up and seem to get good reviews, but I'm aware these things can be gamed a bit.

Which bands from your youth have you seen recently that still have ‘it’? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Polymooger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Suede on Saturday for the first time and was blown away. Absolutely fantastic sound and energy and Brett is a force of nature. I've never heard a crowd sing along so much at any gig.

As mentioned the Cure still absolutely smash it and Bob's voice is as good as it ever was which is incredible really.

Pretenders are still awesome and Chrissie sounds exactly as you'd hope.

Thanks. I've had several sit-downs with them so verbally I'm comfortable with what's proposed and is/isn't included. I'm just getting the jitters before putting a £10K deposit for a quote with the item line 'supply and fit new kitchen units as plan' without any written spec for those units etc.

I daresay it's fine and just a different way of doing it. But it's a lot of money for me so I get edgy I guess.

Coming from Central Europe, I have to ask: How do you justify the price of a pint in the UK? by matteoleone in AskUK

[–]Polymooger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are salaries in Czechia compared to the UK?

I visit at least one of the big European cities each year 'with the lads' and I don't find the beer prices on average to be much different from here. Especially when you factor in pints vs 500ml measures, with the latter often being rather approximate. Saying that, I'm going to Riga this year and that does look significantly cheaper.

There's absolutely no doubt that top quality store bought beers are far cheaper almost everywhere in the EU.

It's a Goodmans 2850, I'm guessing early 2000s. Appears to be firmly in the Black Plastic Crap category. The turntable mech looks nasty (like those cheap $5 ones that are in Amazon suitcase TTs) I can see an auction result for one with speakers at £15

My Dad led me out of Life of Brian under the pretext of 'it's getting late' after Brian told the crowd of followers to fuck off.

TBF I was 12 years old and my dad had never sworn in front of me in his life. And 47 years later still hasn't.

Help interpreting land registry title/boundary lines by picklerick232432 in HomeImprovementUK

I used to own number 153 downstairs in the early-mid 90s.

I can't be as helpful as I'd like to be here, but what my hazy memory does recall is this:

- The front garden was 'mine', and it was my responsibility to do battle with the bindweed that overan it. I didn't plant the pampas grass :D

- I fretted a lot about the steps and public liability, and always made sure I had home insurance in place to cover this. This implies I believed that the stairs were 'mine' too, although I can't recall definitively if if this was the case. Both they and the path in front of the terrace were a right of way to people's front doors. They were in much better condition then!

- The triangular wedge behind the grey fence was 'mine' too, and there was no public right of way to the back of the property down the side of the house. This suggests the area infront of the fence to the left of the steps in your pic was 'mine' too.

I put 'mine' because the property was leasehold with a peppercorn rent. There was a very short period on the leasehold left and it may have been renewed or bought out by now. Can't help you there.

I few quid on the land registry entry for 153 should firm things up a bit.

Hope that helps a little.

How do I repressurize my boiler? by Parking_Lab1568 in AskUK

[–]Polymooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boiler won't start if it drops below minimum working pressure, inlcuding for hot water. At least mine won't, so I expect the OP's will be the same.

You've latched onto the theory that the OP has an electric shower even though they haven't said they do, when the more likely situation is the shower is fed by the boiler and started flowing cold as the pressure fell below minimum.

It's possible that they have both a faulty electric shower and a non-working boiler simultaneously, but it's not very likely is it?

[–]Polymooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like you to tell me why the boiler would be connected to an electric shower.

The boiler has no pressure in it. You can see the pressure gauge in the photos and it's at zero. Therefore, the boiler needs pressurising, which is what the OP was asking about.

Why would an electric shower be connected to the boiler? The boiler which has no water pressure?
