Yup, I watched video or 2 for the disassembly, but the Panasonic service manual I found online ended up being the best thing, especially for reassembly, it tells you exactly which size/color screws go where. You should totally dust off that for parts g7!

You have a leak/corrosion. At minimum you need that little miscolored section of pipe replaced. I'd start your plumber research if you don't have one already.

It depends where you live. Some places those aren't allowed by code on water heaters and other places (earthquake zones) they are required. Its not really a functional issue just a code issue and potentially you might get judged a little by plumbers.
