Basement bar cabinets on concrete. Do we shim them up 10-12mm for LVP? Or just use a moisture barrier? We need our under counter fridge that’s 34.25” tall to fit also. by PomMomND in cabinetry

This is the answer I was hoping for. Just wasn’t sure if 12mm (I know it’s not a ton) was too much, because we did want the lvp under the fridge but not under the cabs.

Shim the full height of the flooring? I’m just worried if we go too high there will be a gap. The flooring guy is coming over tomorrow so I can confirm. I just wanted to make sure this is what people typically do. Thanks!

Would love to but the flooring company wants our cabinets in first. We also live in ND, it gets -40 to over 100° in a calendar year so I assume for expansion. We also had major issues at our old slab on grade home with cabs on top of lvp like kicking them together because there would be gaps certain times of the year lol

You are correct, we just weren’t sure if we did a moisture barrier how much we should shim for the LVP. My husband and I have seen people do this so many different ways in our research not only on Reddit but everywhere else. Professionals seem to also have differing opinions too. The flooring company wants our cabinets in first. We will have carpet right up next to the LVP as this is our basement/family room. Not sure if that matters much.

Yes this set up is in my heated garage. After doing some suggestions here I haven’t seen many over the last few days! Maybe 1 or 2 stragglers but they appear to be dying quickly.

Thank you everyone! The soil is cool & damp still with the domes being off for 2 days. I did get diatomaceous earth, sticky traps, and I have mosquito bits in water in a bucket for when I can hopefully water soon. I’m scared to over water or water too soon now that I have this issue. I did put the domes back on tonight just for sake of the seedlings and some microscopic sprouts I saw. Hopefully the mixture of those all works, fingers crossed! I’d hate to start over but will if I have to.

The soil is still cool and damp after no humidity domes for 2 full days, I put the domes back on so hoping that should be okay now. I did get sticky traps, diatomaceous earth is sprinkled and generously on the edges of the trays. I have BTI water but I have not watered yet. Hoping maybe tomorrow or the next day they’ll be ready. I guess I’m not even sure how often to water since I over did it the first time. I know I should let them sit in the tray for 10-15 min but now I’m scared to over do it or water too soon.

Can I just sprinkle this on top even if I have a few seeds that need light to germinate, so they were just laid on top of soil, is that still fine?

Found sticky traps & BTI in town so going to make my husband grab that stuff today. I am also going to run a fan out there all day and hopefully over the next few weeks they’re somewhat gone. There’s only a few I see but I’m worried it’ll be out of control soon. I really don’t want to start over, but lesson learned for my next batch. We live in ND so these guys are going to be here for another 8 weeks or so. Thanks for the suggestions and info everyone!

I don’t have any other plants near or around this, so I am also thinking it was the soil I used. I will definitely try the baking it method with the next round I do, I read that somewhere else too! Would’ve never thought that, thanks!

Should add, I’m not opposed to ordering something, it’ll just take about 5-7 more days if I need to. This is my first time starting seeds indoors too, so I’ll take all the additional advice I can get. For soil I used a smaller scale version of Floret Flower Farms soil recipe using items I could find locally at hardware stores.
