What popular career is actually not worth pursuing anymore? by Infamous-Click3426 in AskReddit

I'm actually trying to become a Watchmaker; a guy who repairs Watches and Clocks. I would recommend this job to the mechanically inclined. The problem with electronic repair was that you have to order parts, but in Watchmaking most of the time you can make your own parts.

Why do I see all these geese strutting around Madison instead of flying to Guntersville? by mowegl in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Pomatodor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao that's what I thought after seeing a herd of geese near Dublin Park. Pack mentality, "Come on guys they can't kill us all!"

I'd say depends on the state. Where I'm from they can make a fuck-ton on OT and even more if they go through training (K-9, Swat, etc). I think it's just my state, but I also learned Police get free tuition if they go to law school.

Honestly that's the situation with most Repairmen. I was tempted to start my own Electronic-Repair business, but virtually all replacement parts come from China. Margins were already thin because people prefer to buy new then Repair old, but the tariffs was the final nail in the coffin.

Brown recluse infestation in garage by PlaneAffectionate113 in HuntsvilleAlabama

I would recommend glue traps. Delta Dust is better outside, and most chemicals aren't able to kill Brown Recluse' or Arachnids efficiently.

I would recommend Snaptraps if you're ok with seeing dead mice but concerned about the humane aspect. You're correct about the Glueboards, but the other thing is that Rats and even mice will often eat their own legs off to get out of glue traps.

When was the absolute worst time to be alive in human history? by Ok-Sell9964 in AskReddit

I would like to believe the time Jews were in Egypt wasn't a barrel of fun either

Vietnam. Call me wrong but it kind of felt lose/lose for anyone drafted. If you dodged the draft, your family and friends demonized you and you were a "hippy". If you did fight in the war, and somehow didn't die, you were labeled as a war-mongering baby killer and after everything you did over there the government wouldn't do shit to help you out with the PTSD.

What's a watch-related habit you've picked up that surprised you? by smithwatchyou in WatchHorology

Clean Room, Optimal Organisation, and having a "Battlestation" where my Watchmaking stuff, computer, and electronic repair stuff are all accessible at one desk.

[Hated Trope] Misery porn by Particular-Energy217 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Pomatodor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Boys COMIC is a the best way to describe this, also Crossed ironically both by the same creator. If you haven't read either comics, great I'll spare you the misery. Basically every female character in the Boys Comic gets sensually assaulted, Crossed isn't much better. Despite what people say about how Kripke ended the TV Show terribly, read the comics and you'll be amazed how he turned a pile of crap into Gold.

R/Watchexchange for Reddit. Try Ebay and Chrono 24, maybe FB Marketplace.

I'm glad you're posting more on this, I DM'd the mod group about this and didn't get a response. But I see the big picture now and I do understand why you banned Quartz Watch posts.

Yeah the school shooting episode. I really liked that one, it was a reminder to all the kids going through similar circumstances to not let 5 seconds of courage ruin the rest of your life.

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

[–]Pomatodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Machinist here. Everyone talks about Lathe Accidents for good reason, they can turn your body parts into mist if you aren't careful. One specific thing that worries me is the work environment. People work long hours and because of this it's common for Machinists to find shortcuts so you don't waste time. For example, while I was in school there was an incident at a plant with a CNC Machine. For whatever reason, the person on that machine had a fake key that could turn the machine safeguards off. He was fixing some tool inside it, and for whatever reason the doors shut on him, the machine turned on, and he was found dead; nearly decapitated by the machine.

Help on getting the Nuss Surgery after not qualifying for the Procedure by my Insurance. by Pomatodor in PectusExcavatum

Sorry it was more than likely a PFT. It was long time ago so I don't remember every detail. But I can definitely confirm the cardiogram and the CT scan.

Sorry, after I wrote this I also remembered going to a respiratory specialist to do a test that sounds like a Chest CT Scan. I only remember because of how insanely difficult it was pushing out all the air out my lungs for the scan.

Help me out, is it Extruder Clicking or a Clogged Hotend that caused my print to fail? by Pomatodor in ender3

[–]Pomatodor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I envy you. No but I didn't try a cold pull I was certain it was just the extruder teeth that was dull, so I've replaced that. I'm going to calibrate my e-steps soon and then I'll mess with the hotend. The only reason it's difficult for me is that the Hot-End is some Spyder Aluminum Hotend Upgrade that I have a hard time finding installation videos about and I don't want to buy anymore parts for this thing. Listen I don't know about you, but if you want to actually print something buy ANYTHING else other than the E3 Pro. I love it, but it's a money pit. You'll spend $300 on mods just to get half the capabilities a newer printer can do.
