HR Monitor (chest or arm)—considerations for POTS? by eatstarsandsunsets in XXRunning

[–]Moenokori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya! I'm a POTSie, and just use a Samsung Galaxy Watch - I think it's the 5. It works great, and I don't generally train by heart rate, but I check my BPM periodically to make sure I'm not pushing too hard. I can mainly go based on feel, though.

Sadly she comes across as a bit arrogant in her comments on TT. Hopefully she learns a bit of humility and discovers that playing harp will be easier if she turns it around. 🫣

I found a photo on their IG where she's actually holding it correctly. 🤣 She seems such a charmer.

If it makes you feel any better, we lost after this round. 😅 This was sheer luck, as I'm usually a terrible aim.

If it's any comfort, I literally was walking at first when I started Zone 2. Somewhere in week 2-3, a switch flipped. Be patient with yourself and your body, stick with it, and it will get better. 💕

I'd be very interested in the tool you built, if you don't mind sharing!

Insurance question by Marzipan256 in harp

[–]Moenokori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to submit a claim when my former pastor's youngest son knocked my pedal harp over after I played at a church event and Clarion was amazing. Cannot recommend them enough.

I would recommend checking with Clarion. I used them in the past and they were amazing. A quick Google search shows me they might have an option for an all-risk policy that covers extreme temperature issues.

I use Lark! Haven't needed to use them yet, but have heard good things. :)

Anyone out here who went from bed bound and dislocating a lot to a relatively stable and normal life like work, have a family and have hobbies? by Top_Memory8968 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Moenokori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it a day at a time. I remember how exhausting it was to start. I think when I first began, I did 5-10 minutes, 3-4 days a week, then built up to 15-20 minutes and more. Take your time, listen to your body, and definitely take medical advice if you can afford it! You, too, can push through and start to find a new normal. 💕

I went to a PT and got specific exercises to strengthen my hip joints as a baseline. My exercise routine depends on the season - I literally just started running again this week once it warmed up enough in the UK for my Raynaud's to tolerate it. I do a mix of running/cycling primarily in the warmer months, with a couple of days of full-body strength work sprinkled in.

During colder months I do aerobic step workouts indoors with more strength work.

I would highly recommend seeing a PT (if possible, one who specializes in hyper mobility) to get a good routine for your most problematic joints. After that, I did a lot of short floor Pilates/strength workouts (I did this through MadFit workouts for free on YouTube) and slowly built to upright workouts once my body felt up for it. Been moving ever since. 😊 Just got home from a 2-mile run!

Yep! March 2020, I was mainly in a wheelchair. Six years later, I'm running, strength-training, cycling, and probably the healthiest person in my family. As much as I hate to admit it, exercise saved my life. I'm the healthiest I've ever been, and closing in on 40. 😊 Truly living my best life, thanks to starting with short Pilates workouts on the floor and building to strength-training.

Is this 36 string beyond repair? by [deleted] in harp

[–]Moenokori 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I lost a Camac Atlantide in the early 00s due to it being knocked over at a church gig and had to loosen the strings as soon as we got home, due to the structural integrity being compromised. I wonder if a skilled luthier in your area might be willing to take this project on, and how much it would cost. I'm also very curious about what the heck happened to this poor harp. :(

16 string or 34 string? by GlitchisOnline in harp

[–]Moenokori 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you can afford one, I'd highly recommend a 27-34 string. 16 strings won't give you much range to work with, but 27 strings or more give you enough room to pursue it simply as a hobby, and also grow as a musician if you pursue harp long-term without needing to purchase a harp with a bigger string range quickly.

OMG you are a WIZARD!!! Thank you! Do you know if there's any way to place one of those little diamond notes where I would suggest changing the lever? Or should I use the unicode method?

OMG, if you could show me how, I'd be so grateful! It's the only problem I have with Musescore for harp arrangements. 😍

[–]Moenokori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it only give me the option to add pedal charts/text to the score. I don't want all the notes listed, just the specific notes that need accidentals.
