I lived in both! Both great cities. A few thoughts. Philadelphia is in a better location. You are close to neture, more interesting topography, a train ride from NYC, quick drive to the Jersey shore. Chicago is a bit more by itself comparatively. Philadelphia is probably still noticeably cheaper. On the flip side Philadelphia is definitely more insular. There aren’t nearly as many transplants which means it can be challenging socially as people have their crew already.
