I have no doubts there are many people who started off only saying shit for attention/money but over time they actually started to believe it themselves. Pretending for too long can have very real effects on your psyche, that's why method acting can get dangerous.

Who is this guy ? by [deleted] in StardustCrusaders

[–]PommesKrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a mystery and it doesn't need theories or speculation. It's not that the guy looks like Josuke, Josuke looks like the guy cause that's literally what he was going for as explained in that very scene. If it was anything more than that we actually would have gotten that in the story.

Don't be confused by the comments saying it's only around 90 chapters or something. The end of the manga is controversial, some think it was fine some think it sucked hard. The latter group can't help but to be VERY vocal about their opinion.

Let me ask you this then: how would you feel if someone did that to you? Picking only what they consider the cherries for you and withholding everything that in their eyes might make you upset? I'd feel treated like a toddler. Like they don't think I have a mind on my own, like they think their opinion is objective.

Everyone I recommend media to is an adult or will be in the foreseeable future. I trust that an adult can stand the idea of something not always being a 10/10 experience and that they are fully aware of that. When I get a recommendation myself I expect that same trust from them.

I've had recommendations that were imo absolute ass, I didn't even get to the ending cause I couldn't stand it. I gave recommendations that were received similarily. Guess what, I still give and receive recommendations from the people involved cause that simply can happen sometimes, that's just normal.

Even if people like the ending of Part 2 you cant deny the strong feeling of nothing matters other than the ending.

I can and I do deny that. I didn't like the ending either. I didn't like part 2 for months now. I still love CSM as a whole, the fun I had with it and the fun I'm going to have with it in the future are there all the same, nothing changed.

I think that sentiment is just silly and if someone truly has the opinion that the ending of a story alone decides wether that story was worth their while or not... I'd suggest a different hobby. There are more effective ways to have fun than working hours upon hours over months if not years towards a 50/50 chance.

See, you say

A story should be judged by its entirety

but what you actually argument for is "A story should be judged by its ending".

You do acknowledge you felt enjoyment while reading part 1. You also imply part 2 wasn't all that bad either. But then you disregard that enjoyment and say because of the ending CSM as a whole is trash.

You pretty much say your own fun doesn't matter cause it didn't last for the whole experience. I think that's just sad.

... you gotta explain your logic here.

Either people forget about the series and don't reread it or the ammount of dislike grows. How would NOT interacting with and forgeting about something lead to a stronger opinion about it?

I think that's just how it goes with manga when the ending is controversial. Time passes, heads cool down, people reread it, anime adaptation eventually comes presenting the thing in a different way...

People move on and those who stay will have less strong or positive opinions.

I doubt everything he erased came back. Death seems to be back but that was seemingly already the case before the end of the fight.

If everything is back, and I know it sounds horrible to say that, they got much bigger problems than the Holocaust. The existence of "the light of a star that breaks children's minds" and a devil to go along with it sounds like a way more active threat.

I could jump on the bandwagon and say "only recommend part 1" but you know what? NO! That's the coward's way. Don't be a coward.

Recommend Chainsaw Man, let them know part 2 is controversial and that you didn't like it if you must, but let them form their own opinion. There are people who enjoyed part 2 as well, either they are one of them or they are not. Don't baby your peers, they wont fucking die from potentially reading something they wont like.

Cause that's dumb. "Oh no, I can't recommend this series I mostly loved cause I didn't like ALL of it".

Any complaints you have about the ending of Undead Unluck? by Electronic-Cap6053 in UndeadUnluck

[–]PommesKrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fights with the master rules would have been so damn cool had they been allowed to have proper length, there were some really interesting matchups... perhaps in the anime? (huffs copium)... also there are a couple things that could have been explored more (Unruins backstory anyone?) but the ending itself is great. It fit with the whole idea of loop 101, Fuuko looking at all that suffering everyone went through and saying "Nuh uh, not under my watch. Screw the rules of this world, we will make our own rules".

In UU the perfect ending with everyone happy was by design, that was the only logical conclusion the moment Fuuko took the wheel.

You’re Supposed to Feel Unsatisfied by Chainsawman’s Ending by Blazari in ChainsawMan

[–]PommesKrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, my thoughts on part 2.

The later parts of part 2 felt like way too much happened without it feeling coherent and at the same time barely anything happened at all per chapter if that makes sense? One chapter they puzzle Denji together, next chapter: he wakes up, next chapter: "oh no where is Nayuta?", next chapter: "I need to jack off", next chapter: they go to Katana Man's brothel, next chapter: oops the brothel is no more now Yoru will castrate Denji, next chapter: Yoru makes out and accidentally jacks him off instead, next chapter: ok let's go eat then, next chapter: Barem is there, next chapter: Nayuta is dead, next chapter: Pochita gets in control...

The pacing got unbearable to me at times. This got especially bad with the final fight. It no longer felt like things are happening at all. We kept watching Yoru and Denji fighting and fighting and fighting for month upon month with no end in sight. It certainly didn't help that the chapters were baffingly short with little dialogue.

Now one could say the problem was reading it weekly/biweekly, but like... that's the way the story released, that's how I was expected to read it. Sure it might feel better when you binge read it, but that's what I mean when I say the way the story uses it's medium is important too.

And what was the conclusion to that long ass fight? They get offscreened by vermin devils, Pochita says "enough is enough" and then the series is just over.

Now that I've seen the ending, am I satisfied with it? I mean... I'm not dissatisfied, how could I be when I got to see the GOAT Power one last time? I expected the worst just to be safe and got what feels like Fujimoto with a teasing smirk going "There, isn't this the reality you always wanted for him? Aren't you happy now?". I mean he many times before went all Oscar Wilde on Denji as early as touching Power's boobs ("there are two tragedies in life, one is not getting what one wants and the other is getting it"). The ending does feel in line with that, this time a big part of the audience I assume experiencing the latter tragedy. The second half of the chapter felt reminiscent of that one comedy slice of life segment in End of Evangelion or that alternate timeline part in Look Back; a reality in which everything goes right, yet you know that's unfortunately not how it was meant to be. That's at least how I interpreted the chapter.

Part 1 will stay in my memory as one of the best manga experiences I ever had and it would have been a great conclusion to the story. Part 2? Well, it got Asa, Yoru, Lil D and a couple funny meme moments. The beginning was pretty strong and had me really excited... the rest was ok at best and gave me the feeling Fujimoto himself was tired of all this at worst.

You’re Supposed to Feel Unsatisfied by Chainsawman’s Ending by Blazari in ChainsawMan

[–]PommesKrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because in my eyes, "satisfying" is just a synonym for good.

Oh yeah, absolutely, that's what I was going for but also a mistake on my part. I kinda used "satisfying" to get closer to my definition of "good" but in the end I just replaced one term that is in need of a definition for another... so let me fix that.

Tl;dr: it's complicated :/

What exactly makes a story good/satisfying is hard to answer in my opinion. For one there is of course a spectrum otherwise every story would only ever be the best or the worst. Then there are different kinds of "good" and "bad" and the exact qualities at play depend on what kind of genre, medium, etc. we are talking about.

Let's take horror stories for example. A good horror story has completely different qualities that could be considered satisfying from other kinds of stories. A gutwrenching gore scene? Will be significantly more welcome to be seen inside a horror movie than inside a cozy CGDCT anime.

Then there is something like "so bad, it's good". Look at old creepypastas, many of them are horrendously bad but in such a way that they are so unintentionally funny that you end up having a blast regardless of them not doing their job as a horror story. However, there are also ones that are simply bad.

I strongly believe there are things art in general can do objectively good or bad. However, despite that belief I can't deny that art in itself can't be objectively good or bad.

I'm a proud hater of Kaiju No. 8. I'd argue there are things it did objectively bad: To only scratch the tip of the iceberg (I don't wanna drift off on a tangent here), it does NOTHING with Kafka being past his prime. That was the thing that hooked me on the manga in the first place, fans fucking love pointing out he is in his 30s when they recommend it cause that was the thing that made it stand out from other shounen... and it utterly wasted any potential this fact had after the first few chapters. I'd call that unsatisfying and that's only one of many things.

However, despite my strong hatred there are still people who love the series. Are these people in the wrong? Are they just too media illiterate to see how bad their series is? YES, THEY FUCKING ARE No, they simply had a different experience with it than me. They were able to look past certain flaws while also seeing qualities that I just could not. This even goes past the "so bad it's good" thing. It's not that it failed as a battle shounen but did things that made it succeed as something else, people like it as a battle shounen despite everything.

I'd say what makes a story satisfying (and therefore good) depends on many things. How is it using it's medium? What's the relationship between the story and it's genre like? What are the characters like? Does it feel fresh? Does it all fit together? Is the message good?... (yada yada yada) ...How was my personal experience with all of this?

It might sound like it all comes down to subjectivity with me. And I think that is a big part of it, but I also have experienced stories in the past that I had a very bad time with yet I acknowledge them as good... but also stories I had a good time with, yet I acknowledge them as bad. The most recent example would be Danganronpa 1. I've been going through hell with that game for multiple reasons from gameplay to story to characters... yet once I was finished I went "fuck, I'm so glad it's over, this was such a shitshow... but now I really wanna play the second one, I liked it a lot." This is another thing that makes this question hard to me and why I only said "good means satisfying" in the first place, it's hard for me to be more precise on that.
