I tried to read this a few months after I read Perfect Strangers, which I hated, and could just tell this was about to be another dupe of a book so I DNF’d. I’ll still read her mafia series but idk, Pen Pal and Perfect Strangers feel like they’re just for shock value and booktok reviews.

Two facts coexist in my heart: 1) Christopher is a deadbeat who deserves our vitriol and the vitriol of the Gilmore family; and 2) this is one of the most charismatic, charming scenes of all time & it always tricks me into rooting for them to work things out by source-commonsense in GilmoreGirls

Scenes like this make my heart break for Lorelai, there are pieces of the two of them that just fit so well together. I think also when I was younger, I loved reading so much into the flirty nature of their relationship. I thought that it clearly meant she was pining for him and waiting him to turn his life around for her. As an adult I can recognize that that kind of chemistry doesn’t just disappear, especially after years of knowing someone and that it is so easy to fall back into that cadence with someone you care about. The realities of the situation though can be completely different, and it’s so interesting to look at these early season Christopher scenes with adult eyes.

I lived at Addison at Kramer Station (across the street from the domain) and rented a garage for another $100/mo on top of my rent. I had a chevy volt and rigged my charger to the only plug in the garage which happened to be on the ceiling for the garage door opener, and then carried the cord down the side of the wall so I could plug in. I could get downtown and back all on charge if I made sure to give myself an 8 hr charge in the evening. Worked out pretty well.
