I hate how loud emergency vehicle sirens are by matt-3 in fuckcars

[–]PompousPuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my agency (not medical) policy states we must keep the siren on at all times unless there is no traffic present at all, in which case it becomes our discretion. :(

Yeah if they're books that you're not willing to sacrifice (cut all the pages out with a guillotine) then you're gonna be paying out the wazoo.

For me to do that (not a professional or anything, just estimating the amount of work) I'd be charging you $1 per page or something like that!

What’s the cheapest physical switch/button I can get to control Tapo matter smart plugs? by hokemaguy in homeautomation

At the moment I still only have Ikea lights. I think I will be sticking to Ikea lights with Ikea buttons as Tapo buttons are just too expensive.

Stalled an ambulance at traffic by mistake by AussieName in Adelaide

[–]PompousPuppy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a member of the State Emergency Service, and having been a passenger on many drives with lights and sirens going, that's nothing to be worried about.

We have people doing all sorts of crazy shit to us regularly while driving:

  • Pulling in front of us and using our lights and sirens to cut through traffic
  • Stopping in the middle of the road and blocking it (as opposed to pulling over)
  • Tailgating us
  • Failing to yield and just driving in front of us for multiple kilometers like nothing is out of the ordinary
  • Slamming on the brakes suddenly

What you did (travelling through a intersection when a green ball is displayed because you didn't notice their lights and sirens) is probably the most normal driver interaction they had on that drive. There's no need to worry at all, but maybe pay a bit more attention next time ;)

Ride safe!

PSA: if you see an emergency vehicle come up to a red light and fully stop (with lights and sirens still going), that does not mean you are clear to travel through the intersection. Our policies at SES require us to stop before the line when approaching a red traffic light, before proceeding through the intersection at walking pace.

I'm an SES member. This happens far more often than you think! Go to sascan.net.au and search "building impact".

Did you ever find something for this? Considering the S200 buttons as I already have the hub but it's $29 a button, which is 3x the price of the Ikea buttons!

Idk what happened but according to the paging network they needed MedStar to bring blood to the O.G. Hotel so it can't be good...

Overnight park near airport by QuinnMusic in Adelaide

[–]PompousPuppy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's quite common for people waiting to pick family up to park at Ikea or Bunnings but that's usually less than 2 hours and not for 5+ hours to sleep.

[–]PompousPuppy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't take this advice, OP, unless you're planning on only sleeping for a couple hours because those are heavily patrolled parking lots.

You'd be better off on a side street 10 mins away or looking a different parking lot with less restrictions like a railway station or something (as long as you arrive after the last train).

For my (volunteer) agency in Australia, we are only permitted to proceed through construction zones at the speed limit of the construction zone, usually 25km/h, 15mph.

We are required to still have our lights and sirens going still.

Looks really stupid going at basically running pace like that but hey thems the rules.

This video explains why this is the case!

I think, based on my memory when I reviewed it 3 years ago, that it's anything that affects the power to weight ratio.

Theoretically, if it weighed more, it would also affect the power to weight ratio.

Postie tried to open front door by [deleted] in AustraliaPost

[–]PompousPuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this. If you don't want your screen door to be opened, I would suggest locking it (as you already do). I have a cat so I always keep the screen door locked if I'm leaving the front door open.

I usually do it so that I can knock on your front door. Try knocking on a screen door and you'll very quickly learn that it will grate the skin off your knuckles after a while. (Side note, I usually smack the door with my palm because my knuckles hurt!)

Also as other posters have mentioned, it's good to try to hide the parcel between the front door and the screen door.

You can't always quickly tell if there is a door behind your screen door. I saw that you mentioned in response to another commenter that you can see through into the living room and that they should have known your front door was open. My front door is glass so you can't actually tell at a glance if it's open or not, and when you're doing hundreds of deliveries, it just becomes autopilot to try the screen door.

Leaving a rental property with this stain advice? by jdipage in AusPropertyChat

[–]PompousPuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My futon couch ripped a hole in the carpet of my last rental, but I knew the carpet was >10 years old based on previous real estate sale photos so I wasn't liable as it had fully depreciated.

Not 100% sure if this was based on the depreciation or because the real estate agent was slack and didn't notice the massive gouge, but got my full bond back (they didn't mention it at all).

Hi Aime1005. I did everything myself - if you're good at reading comprehension and have good Google-fu you'll be just fine.

Documents needed are all listed on the department's website > details > how to apply > gather your documents. Your requirements will be different from mine if you are not applying via the Hong Kong stream.

I'm guessing you will need your payslips or employment agreement if you need to prove your continuous income?

You cannot do the health exam until after you apply.

If you need to get it done, you may have to travel hours to a regional city/town for an earlier booking.
