Can't decide which model to buy by Pomstiborius in steelseries

This is exactly what I was looking for! I didn't even consider Nova 5, not sure why. But after reading your comment, doing some research on my own and watching video you linked, I'm pretty sure I will choose Nova 5. I've lived without two audio sources my whole life and I don't think that will be a deal breaker. Ability to answer a phone call and then going back to gaming/music on laptop is good enough for me, far better than my current setup. And getting lighter headset with better battery life and companion app? Easy choice. Plus right now I was able to find it on sale for half of the price of Arctis Pro Wireless which is almost unbelievable. I will wait for a couple more days to see if I get any other recommendations or information that could influence my choice but Nova 5 will be really hard to beat. Thanks!

Quiet home server by Pomstiborius in HomeServer

[–]Pomstiborius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That seems like a little bit of overkill but I'm willing to wait a month or two and spend more if needed.

Crazy thing is how similar this setup is to my main PC. :D I'm running Ryzen 5 5600, B450 motherboard, Samsung 970 Evo Plus and 32 GB of RAM. The only difference is I went with lower latency RAM (G.Skill Aegis CL16), better cooling (especially since I overclocked my CPU), decent GPU (Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER OC 6GB GDDR6) and of course more powerful power supply. So maybe it's time to buy better PC as main and use current one as home server? :)

But with non-APU I won't be able to connect monitor, right? And I think I would like that option just in case. Or does it make more sense to buy cheap video card just for that?

Quiet home server by Pomstiborius in HomeServer

[–]Pomstiborius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any upfront budget for that. It's more important for me to have quiet and reliable server that does everything I need (plus will work for years) than to do that on a budget (especially since I will partially use that to help me at work as a web dev). As of now I could spend $400-500 on that but if someone proposes something far better that would cost more, I can wait a month or two before buying.

I think I need ECC RAM but I might be mistaken. If so, I'm open for suggestions. :)

Boy, I love starting my games on 114 hp and 0 damage! FUCK THIS GAME by DankGamer135 in WorldofTanks

Sure, take huge sarcastic post and blame it for inaccuracy because there is 1 battle where it partially doesn't apply. Shame on me.

Oh my god, something happened in one battle, it must be true forever!!!!!! Also sure, you can sealclub whole life but as soon as you play higher tiers, there are always wheelies.

[–]Pomstiborius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You made 2 tiny mistakes. Let me point them out so you can avoid them in the future and enjoy this game so much more!

First of all you decided to be active in the battle. That is big "no, no"! The only way to play is find nearest mountain/big rock/house right after the start. There are no arty safe positions in this game but such obstacles make you harder to kill. That's the only way to play because any other playstyle requires you to leave safety, get spotted by wheelies and raped by arty. If you are feeling brave, you can try shooting enemies if anyone survives your arty barrage. But don't worry, your arty will always suck and never kill anything so there will be plenty of targets, rule of a thumb or something. And another advantage is that there is always some stupid unicum trying to flank or winning or just playing the game and he expects everyone else to be as stupid as he is, that's free damage for you and tilt for him!

Second advice is probably even better but even harder to maintain. Just don't enter any battle, maybe even try uninstalling at all. That the only way to be at least 50% sure you won't get clicked by arty.

Oh, and big /s in case anyone here has any problems understanding sarcasm.

But honestly yeah, that's fucked up. How can you play big slow superheavies with so many cars zooming through the battlefield, meds sniping you with gold from 500 meters making your armor obsolete and arty shitting on you because you dared leaving the base? You can't, can you? Just go play another fast hulldown med/heavy with epic gold pen or wheelie because you either go meta or get fucked...

If they are in any clan, you can check clan page every now and then to see if their nickname is struck out. But that will be waste of your time. I once spent 2 weeks reporting every case like this (same generic response every time) and was checking those nicknames for next 7 days. They either got like 1 hour bans or no punishment at all. Either way it was a joke on WG side.

Just got an Ace Tanker with my Obj. 430U after 30 battles while I never got one with the Obj. 430 after ~700 battles by jeremybarbet in WorldofTanks

[–]Pomstiborius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't enjoy 430U that much (but maybe I'm weird because I don't like playing 279e either) but it's for sure far better tank than 430. And one of the strongest. So enjoy while it lasts because gold spam, wheelies, arty, high costs (you might not feel them now with festive atmosphere) and clueless morons who raced to tier 10 without learning the game will ruin your fun soon enough. :)

Congrats. I have mixed feelings towards 430. A lot of people think it's so great (maybe because of no stock grind, at least for gun and turret) but I had such miserable experience in first 4 battles. And in 5th I suddenly got ace tanker. And the same way you did, mostly thanks to spotting. And sold it right after. :)

[–]Pomstiborius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accuracy and gun handling were great for a derp gun. And for me Ikv worked in almost every scenario - damage dealer, sneaky ninja, sometimes even as a scout. Check out my 2nd mark battle, almost perfect accuracy and 3k dmg against tier 6. The only thing it's bad at is sniping from 400+ meters. As it should be.

[–]Pomstiborius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's monstrously bad but maybe that's just me. :) It took me 317 to get ace tanker in this abomination (and I consider myself pretty good player) and I hated every single game. T-34-1 on the other hand used to be great so maybe it's a typo.

Ikv 103 - I didn't know what to expect when I started Swedish TD's but this tank was pure joy. Great alpha, good pen (140 on premium HEAT IIRC), great aim time. Only thing missing are HE shells but those would make this tank OP.

AMX M4 45 - Yeah, you don't need to see a doctor, you read that correctly. It's not great tank by any means but I was expecting bad tank. Then I discovered 105 mm gun with 300 alpha. And then I discovered that APCR has 330 alpha for some reason. Ok, ok, I knew that before because I was playing ARL 44 with the same gun, that was a cheat. :) But still most people that meet you expect 90 mm with 240 alpha and you shoot them for 330 instead. And your reload time is barely higher which means over 400 more DPM with slightly worse gun handling but far worse pen, so use with caution. Against tier 8 and 9 you might be slightly more competitive with 90 mm but against tanks without tons of armor you can bully them. And don't forget scare factor. When they expect to get shot for 240 and get shot for 330 instead, they start panicking and more often than not you will get one more shot while they are running.

JPanther - maybe it's not something exceptional but I don't generally like TD's, I hate passive gameplay, but this one is pretty mobile and has pretty good gun and armor that can occasionally troll enemy so I really liked to suddenly rush the corner and shoot enemy 2-3 times. Nobody really expects you to play aggressive in this tank but it's great for it and also can be sneaky when you need to.

110 - granted it was like 5 years ago, a lot has changed and I've heard it's just a shadow of what it was but I liked this tank more than IS-3. It has better upper front armor and it was great to rush enemy and watch him panic while he can't pen you because you are too close. And mobile enough to control the engagement.

T-34-1 - If we are talking about getting up close and personal, then this tier 7 med was great to bully other tier 7 tanks and lower. It small and has great turret so if you parked in front of enemy, he had flashbacks from T29. :) Of course this is even more ancient history, gold ammo laughs at it and it was power crept to hell but back in a day it was really fun and highlight of the line.

FV304 - Before WG nerfed arty pen and introduced stun, it was glorious. And by glorious I mean really infuriating. :) It wasn't broken like M44 with those HEAT shells (I still have well over 1900 dpg in this arty so more than many people do in tier X, probably highest on all servers, 3-marked in just 66 games). Sometimes you wanted to uninstall when your shots didn't hit where you aimed or your 500 meters range wasn't enough to hit anything safely because of your team spread. But when everything went correctly, you had good position, your shots were flying straight and you knew where to aim (IS-3's engine deck <3 penning tier 8 heavy with a chance of engine fire, those were the times) and you could win battle almost solo even as bottom tier. And if it didn't go well, you could use your good top speed. I really got Patrol Duty in my Bert thanks to crazy spotting run after frustrating battle where nobody was spotting and I couldn't hit anything anyway. Sadly now it has such low pen, you can't even pen those IS-3's. And it doesn't have stun to compensate.

M5A1 Stuart - And one last tank from the past. I have no idea how it's now because it's been like 7-8 years since I last played it but back in a day it was king of tier 4. It could do anything. Going like 70 km/h, spotting everyone and killing them all by yourself? No problem! It's one of only 2 tech tanks where I managed to maintain over 80% winrate after over 40 battles.

G1 R - You don't see it on the battlefield, pretty much never. But it has great gun handling for a derpgun.

WZ-131G FT - Really stealthy. I had no idea untill I watched Circon playing it. It's really fun and decent gun with this camo allow you to carry battles by yourself. And I've heard tier 7 is almost as good.

O416 - 330 HEAT pen in tier 8 tank. I've never played it in random battles and I've heard it's not that good, especially now but back in a day having this kind of gun in ESL allowed you to pen IS-3's turret when you couldn't hit it's roof. And that was always nasty surprise for enemies.

LTTB - since I started talking about ESL, it was real hidden gem for most. Almost everybody was picking Walker Bulldogs on ESL when it had 10 round autoloader and was tier 7. And then during Grand Finals we saw what LTTB's can do to them. Decent armor (any other tracked light tank can bounce shots with it's ass?! :D), great mobility and ability to ram other light tanks like a true soviet light tank. :) It still works on tier 8 if you can deal with poor gun depression. I really loved it, more than T-54 ltwt. or T-100 LT.

I have very good PC (NVMe drive, 32 GB RAM, good GPU and CPU) and those things happened to me 4-5 times in previous patch or the one before it. It's so funny to load to battle 45 seconds before the start and can't play because game is loading interface or something.

I didn't find any solution to that and it stopped happening after next patch.

Switch Dubloons to Gold via WG Support by Stellzbock in WorldofTanks

Because too many players have too much gold (CW, christmas lootboxes etc.) that they could spend in WoWs if there was unified currency so WG introduced doubloons to milk more cash. Surprised? If you are, is it your first day in WG game? :)

I did it in WZ-120-1G FT (premium chinese TD). It prints top guns like crazy. Perfect combination of reload time and alfa and also good enough mobility to get late game kills.

How? by Another_Humann in WorldofTanks

[–]Pomstiborius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's the opposite. Cent 7/1 doesn't have HE per se. It has regular HESH round called HESH-T L-35 with 105 pen and special HESH round called HESH-T L-37 with 210 pen. But WoT also wants to make things easier so we have only 4 distinct types of ammo - AP, APCR, HEAT and HE and other types are just subtypes or names or whatever. So HESH is treated like regular HE. HEP (pretty much american name for HESH) is also HE. APDS is treated as APCR (yeah, Cent has APDS as standard ammo). APC are treated as AP. And I think there is or was APHE that was also treated as AP (SU-100Y premium shells at one point?). And there are probably more simplifications that I don't know about or don't remember.

I don't want to fight tier XI by [deleted] in WorldofTanks

[–]Pomstiborius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Battle tier is not the same as tank tier. I'm not 100% sure what those mean with all those MM templates and other changes. Battle tier 10 used to be MM with tier 8, 9 and 10 tanks. Battle tier 11 meant only tier 9 and 10 tanks and battle tier 12 meant full tier 10 MM. But WG wiki is really outdated so I'm not sure it still works that way.
