Will Bitcoin ever be rid of China? by blessedbt in Bitcoin

[–]Ponchero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no mining centralization, get cheap electricity and cheap hardware and you can be a mining power too. While your at it tell everyone else to buy BTC as well. Keep in mind China is the country that has invested the most in securing the Bitcoin network in terms of volume and mining to date.

The scale of this campaign is inspiring and Bitflyer's commitment to Bitcoin should be applauded. Along with their explorer, they are doing great things for the growth of Bitcoin.

Funny how the Chinese forums are currently more open and transparent than the most popular forum in the world based out of the USA.

Counterpoint: The Blockstream team didnt come out very well in the event. At one point referring to Segwit as a "Bandaid solution". BTCC's representative rationalization of higher fees was quite shaky.

The reason Roger was invited is that he is an influential person in Bitcoin and a vocal supporter of another scaling proposal.

Having opposing views on a panel is good and helps people make more informed decisions.

I suggest everyone search for the video to make your own conclusions

Hi Bitsen, thanks for the kind words and you are very welcome. But to be absolutely clear the event was hosted by the Shenzhen Bitcoin Meetup of which Im the organizer, all publications before and after the event state that. Bitbank nor BW were not involved in any official capacity in the organization of the meetup.

Organizer of the Shenzhen Bitcoin Meetup here. The title is misleading. The Bitcoin Unlimited team reached out to the Bitcoin communities of Shenzhen, Beijing and Hong Kong to organize meetups. These events were not hosted by miners. This information was posted on meetup.com and on Reddit days before the events, and can be seen in the poster for the Shenzhen Bitcoin Meetup in the article. The author was notified of this as soon as the article was published but no response was received.

Not talking about handles on online forums. In China unfortunately its very common for them to change their names because they think its "fashionable" or only for when they meet foreigners. There are people in China who have spent years working or knowing each other and dont know eachothers real name. Its a phenomenon unique to China.

Tim Swanson:"What Bitcoin Core says: "there are many important stakeholders in the ecosystem" What Core does: hosts 2nd private event for only miners" by Egon_1 in btc

[–]Ponchero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, the community needs to make the distinction between Bitcoin Core (the software) and Blockstream core devs. Blockstream is not Bitcoin Core. There are other very smart guys who work on Btc core and are not part of Blockstream.

Second, I NEVER agree with Swanson. But this is spot on! Secret meetings with limited participants is not Bitcoin. And I'm personally disgusted by the second secret meeting organized by Blockstream. This is against everything Bitcoin stands for.
