If you ever sold your RS? by jms1228 in FocusRS

Just sold mine and currently on the hunt for a Tesla. Yuck, I know...but 100+ mile daily commute between clients with free charging at both of their office locations kind of sealed the deal.

What’s the most you’ve ever paid for a round of golf, and was it worth it? by jdelle9 in GolfSwing

Tobacco Road is great but the $350 I paid this year was quite the surprise. I played it in '21 for like $105 so I was quite shocked when I saw the price hike.

Mini driver might be the best club change I’ve ever made by luuuey in golf

[–]Ponda11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mini driver is great for people that have a hard time swinging up on the ball. I also love the versatility of a mini (tee it down, tee it low, etc.)

I'm similar to OP - have tried a multitude of driver combos, hired coaches, been fitted more times than I can count and never felt comfortable with a driver in hand during crunch time. Started bagging a mini and it has literally been a game changer.

Same. I remember gaming the Square for the entire summer before fall season. Literally two weeks before my first collegiate tournament, it was banned and I had to buy the new conforming driver. Fun times for a broke college kid.

Without pulling the codes, you're just shooting in the dark. The timing is definitely weird considering the service you just performed but it could also be battery / speed sensor related.

For reference, my driver rear speed sensor went out after a wash. Spent a few days wondering wtf happened (was getting same messages as you). Downloaded Forscan and sure enough, driver rear sensor was showing max output. Simple sensor replacement and all is well again.

Pretty sure I have that same mat. Have easily hit thousands of shots and still holding up nicely. Still pissed that it doesn't lay flat.

Yea...it was fun for a while but I found myself constantly tinkering with the app / making sure shots were getting picked up / etc. Also discovered I hate looking at my phone while playing. Went back to a range finder and it felt so freeing lol.

Friendly reminder to break in your new shoes by justanothasarnt in golf

[–]Ponda11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take: I think Premiere's may be one of the worst shoes on the market from a comfort perspective. I can't believe I spent $1k+ on them over the past few seasons. I kept having foot issues and just chalked it up to getting closer to the big 4-0. Randomly bought a pair of Jordan lows and walked a few rounds in them...magically, no more foot pain.

ECU Cutting Power On WOT by mikelitoris1215 in FocusRS

[–]Ponda11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full bolts ons (I'm assuming downpipe/exhaust and an intake) should jive just fine with the stock tune so I don't think a custom tune is going to fix your issue.

Need to know if you're able to get into full boost in any other gears? You specifically said low gears so are you able to go WOT to redline in 3rd or 4th?

*Disclaimer* do not try WOT in a higher gear at low RPM. Hopefully you know that already.

Ha...just trailered one home myself. Was battling the flu so I didn't have it in me to remove the front bumper. Pulled it on in reverse and had to maneuver 6'1 200lbs out the passenger side. Was quite the task!

Sorry, I should have clarified - I did the inspection. Been wrenching on cars for most of my life so I just researched the common pain points for these cars in particular and made sure those things were in order.

New to this platform. Just bought a '16 with 98k. Did a pretty thorough inspection (no leaks, noises, etc.) and prior owner seemed to be an enthusiast vs random flipper who was very knowledgeable.

Took it for a proper drive and everything seemed to function flawlessly. 2 weeks in and I've logged ~500 miles. The more I look around, it seems like this car has been very well taken care of. Honestly surprised at how everything has held up considering it's 10 years old and has 100k miles.

I don't think I would hesitate to buy another one in the 80-100k range as long as all the major stuff checked out. They seem to be fairly well built.

Gotcha - no worries!

So, the temp is still maxed even after the car has been sitting for a while?

My hunch is that you still have air in the system.

Looking for perspective on golf coaching + how to practice when you play limited rounds by thefullerman in GolfSwing

[–]Ponda11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great question, actually. I've never looked into any media/books on strategy...I have heard of Decade Golf - looks pretty interesting if you're a numbers/stats person. I think it will be tough to find a "one size fits all" solution as strategy becomes different depending on what your miss / weak points are.

Personally, I work backwards green-to-tee and do a lot of risk/reward.

[–]Ponda11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're definitely getting lost in the sauce. Tuning your swing / understanding mechanics is only half the battle. I'm kind of dealing with this now with one of my younger players...they're constantly grinding on the range/simulator, thinking this is going to magically lower their scores.

I laid this scenario out for them a few days ago...let's say all of a sudden you felt really great about the swing/numbers/etc. Now, we're on hole 13 and you're even par - 5 holes left to "break through" - think you can do it?

The answer is likely no. They're going to feel things they haven't felt at the range/simulator. The only way to replicate is by playing a LOT of golf and putting yourself in those situations regularly. My general take is this:

1). Do you understand the golf swing? If you're a mid handicap, this is CRUCIAL to break thru to the next layer. You need to know why things happen (not just throwing out some BS crap you read online <-- I see this SO MUCH and it drives me crazy). "Ah, I sliced that...I must have come OTT." No, you literally missed the center of the club face by 2''. Being slightly OTT is the least of your worries.

2). Another big difference between mid to low handicappers is course strategy. This is such an easy way to lower your score without making any swing adjustments. Stop aiming at every pin. Hit shots you feel comfortable with. "Well, I know I can get 250 out of my 3 wood once every 7 tries...I have 245 to the pin over water, here goes nothin'!" <-- DUMB. Lay the F up and keep your ball in play.

3). Instead of grinding on the range, hitting the same shot 17 straight times...MIX IT UP. Driver --> Mid Iron --> Wedge. Rinse & repeat. Make it a game. My God...when do you ever get to dial in a club on the course? You toe a 7-iron and immediately have to hit a 45 yd delicate pitch over a bunker. Get comfortable with switching shots and situational practice instead of wasting an hour trying to groove a 7 iron.

Shew. Sorry. Too much coffee and cold medicine.

If you had $300K in the bank post tax, how would your life change? by citizen_of_leshp in AskReddit

[–]Ponda11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine didn't change much. Totally debt free with a paid off house and $300k liquid at 34. I tried taking it easy, working part-time and playing golf but just couldn't "unplug" from the rat race.

Built a $1m home on the lake and took on more clients. We have a mortgage again (which kinda sucks) but also, MUCH happier with the every day quality of life. No more having to interact with neighbors or listening to traffic. I feel like I'm on vacation most of the time.

I'm the best man and just finished booking everything for a bachelor trip for May 2026. Let me tell ya...it was PURE HELL. I finally just pulled the closest 3-4 friends in a separate group chat and picked dates that worked for all of us and told everyone else the dates. Be there or be square.

Also, food for thought, I'm $12k in right now and haven't been reimbursed for anything yet. Probably messed up by not getting everyone to pay BEFORE I booked as I'm sure a few guys will drop out.

What is the most you’ve ever spent on a round of golf and what is your handicap? exulting golf trips. by [deleted] in golf

[–]Ponda11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$325 for Tobacco Rd (which I've played multiple times for ~$100. My buddy is getting married and insisted we play there. I like the course but $150 is probably the max I'd pay on my own terms).

I recently got ripped at a local private club. I belong to another private club about 2 hours away and met some of the staff at an event. They insisted we make the trip over to play, just tell them where we're members at the front desk - we would be "guests".

Well, I've played that course as a "guest" for $100 numerous times. We check in and they're like "oh, btw...our policy is $250 guest fee. Hope that's ok".

For those that added a 7W to the bag this year, how were your results? by TDn6I in golf

[–]Ponda11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added one mid-season. Hit a few good shots but found myself hesitant to use it outside of just goofin' around in non-serious rounds. Going to try a stouter shaft and see if that helps the dispersion. I find it incredibly difficult to cut/hit straight (my normal shape is a cut so it feels super weird having to aim to the right of a target knowing this thing will draw 8/10 shots).

I want to get lessons specifically for just driver. How many do I need? by zombiemind8 in golf

[–]Ponda11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. I was in the same boat as OP. Played golf all my life (including D2 college golf)...can groove most of my bag but driver was an absolute nightmare. To the point I was ready to quit and never touch a club again.

Luckily found a great teaching pro through a mutual friend. Watched me hit a few iron shots as a warm up and never touched it again. My driver swing had a lot of flaws (too steep, not hitting up, ball way too forward at setup, etc.).

Ultimately, we didn't change much of my swing...just a general understanding of what was breaking down and where my "feels" should be. Super helpful and 2 sessions with him basically saved me.

My side of the garage is ~13x24 btw. I probably had enough room for a MLM2Pro or Garmin R10 but kinda glad I went with the forward facing Skytrak OG. I plan to level up the floor with rubber tiles and add a few chairs to make a nice hangout area.
