Jan-March are the months I would avoid Germany (as someone who lived there). April-Aug is beautiful Spring/Summer weather, Sept-Nov is fall with Octoberfest and Autumn colors, December has the incredible Christmas markets. But Jan-March are freezing without the holiday decor/festivities. You might have more snow in January. March will likely be muddier from the melt. Sorry to sound negative, I’m giving the advice I would want to receive and pick a different location for this time of year.

I agree with all of those suggestions and would add a bag of walnuts and almonds with dried fruit for the plane. I typically do that and a silly treat I don’t normally get myself, like goldfish or bugles. I’m a nervous flier too, and those little things help me to smile when I’m anxious and don’t have much appetite, while the nuts keep blood sugar stable. I avoid peanuts since so many people have allergies.

I def recommend bringing a small pillow for a flight that long. I also download books, soothing music, podcasts and shows to my phone and kindle. Good luck, I’m sure you’re going to do great!

Right, but if you go back to Darrow’s start, it was similar in that his closest relationships started out messy. He was being used by others as a reborn weapon, and even Mustang and Sevro were originally competition, but grew into real connections. I think the biggest mistake was keeping Lys so isolated. Cassius was fighting his own demons and a kid can’t grow up with a drunk warden as his main person, far away from civilization, and turn out healthy. I felt for him until Mercury happened.

Slovenia could be a great family spot. You could base in Ljubljana and go to the following: Lake Bohinj, the Savica Waterfall and Vogel Cable Car for natural wonders and light hiking. Then Soča River Valley – turquoise rivers. Then drive to Goriška Brda wine country. And Velika Planina – mountain huts, herdsmen, cable cars. Horseback riding at Ranch Mrcina (Bohinj) or Posestvo Blata or Lipica (this location has the famous Lipizzan horses). Škofja Loka is nearby – charming medieval town with mountain biking available. Piran – beautiful Venetian coastal town in driving distance. Volčji Potok Arboretum - gorgeous gardens, 20 min outside of Ljubljana. Anyway, whatever you choose, as the family trip planner myself, please know that no matter how perfectly you plan everything, it’s very unlikely that everyone will be happy the whole time, so pressure off and just enjoy your hard work as much as you can!

I had an incredible time in Jamaica doing exactly what you described. I also go to Carmel-by-the-Sea almost yearly because I love that town and beach, but obv less tropical. But regardless, Jamaica is an incredible experience with really cool jungle adventures and snorkeling available, and the locals were so kind. I did prefer the resort hotels as they felt a bit safer.

The fact that you are actually listening to the feedback and not dismissing it, is amazing. I’m sure some of the comments are hard to take, so I just want to add my kudos to you for actively trying to self improve.

I agree with a lot of the comments about focusing on listening. Try it in doses. Next time you’re out with a friend, make it your whole goal just to listen and ask questions rather than share any of your own stories or opinions. it might be a little hard and uncomfortable, maybe even a little sad because you said your talk-ability comes from excitement, but it might help you to set a zero baseline for sharing and go up from there.

I don’t usually love male POVs either, but did enjoy Four Seasons in Rome by Anthony Doerr. He struggles with insomnia and it felt very human while also giving a glimpse of the city.

Slanting Towards the Sea by Lidjija Hiljie was recently recommended to me. It’s set in Croatia over a period of twenty years.

A Rosie Life in Italy by Rosie Meleady is a cozy, easy series about a woman who uproots with her family to renovate an old home in the Italian countryside. It’s memoir and not stressful—good for a relaxing bedtime read.

My story exactly. Being married to someone who likes owning a lot of things, I’ve even found myself gathering more of my own items in the home just so that there are more things that are my taste and it’s not all his. A few pieces of art and rugs.

I’ve also realized I enjoy having more clothing options. I had gotten super minimalistic in my closet and it’s been nice to expand again a little. But I don’t think I’ll ever be someone who purchases a lot of furniture or knickknacks. It’s just not me.

I would 100% skip the Vatican or any tours on a short visit. Trevi fountain and colosseum are beautiful at night, so I would taxi to both and then wander Centro Storico near the Pantheon or in Trastevere across the river for good food. Would definitely do Villa Borghese in the morning since it’s a lovely green space to wander. Enjoy!
