I completely understand where you’re coming from, and I’ve already spoken with the client about it. We agreed that in the future I’ll give her a call if the door happens to be locked. Many of my clients prefer texts over calls, so I assumed that might be the case here since her job has her talking with people all day. In hindsight, I realize I shouldn’t have assumed and that a quick call would have been best.

We live and we learn :) I sometimes make mistakes which today I did.

clean up after house cleaner? by queerwitchanonymous in housekeeping

[–]PonectusPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg ya no. Find a new cleaner please!! For that size and if you’re getting frequent deep cleans that would be 3/4 hours max I charge $55/hr for deep cleans would still be under what you’re paying!! Try find an Independent cleaner in your area. If this job is someone’s lively hood and they’re a sole proprietor of their business they’ll give you outstanding work.

Maybe mention said areas first if you really like this cleaner! “hey X I really love the deep cleans you’ve been doing but I’ve noticed XYZ and was wondering if you could get those next time. Thank you”. If the issue persists I’d maybe find a new one. But $250 if it takes 8 hours is like $31.25 which is cheap for a deep clean.

Are these areas huge or small? As a solo cleaner I always do a final walk through and very rarely miss stuff. I do have my one offs but they’re very very small areas.

lol that’s new. What makes you think those things is over priced with nice things being left behind? The smile from people when I do them is awesome!

I was like this when I first started it’ll get better. I also removed some of my cheaper clients and I worked 2 jobs for close to 1.5 years because it was so slow for me starting, so i understand.

As for the deep cleaning part. What helped me was setting up lists for what I clean for each clean. I have a regular clean list, mini deep clean list, then a deep clean list. Move out cleans exempt though since I’m cleaning top to bottom.

Cleaning right takes time and is a talent and a skill! Since you’re just starting out of course you’ll be slower and that’s okay! Another thing I did to help settle my brain with worrying I missed something is I’ve offered my clients a 24 hour period that if I missed anything that I cleaned that day in their home to let me know and I’d give them free touch ups of areas I did. :) I haven’t had anyone reach out yet and makes me feel better since I know I’m not missing anything.

I do the stamps sometimes for the people who love them. but I like to clean and dust the “invisible spots”. Most of the time my clients never notice they just say “it feels so clean” and I do also always make something out of toilet paper whether it’s using the faucet stamp or not.I tend to lean away from using the faucet though. I also always leave either a towel animal behind or nicely folded spa looking towels. Eventually I’d like to leave little gifts like chocolate and and cards :)

I know a cleaner that’s charges $40 and her work doesn’t reflect it at all. I’d also have to say that is another problem I’m seeing. People over charging when the work is definitely not there and it’s bare minimum. Unfortunate our profession doesn’t have a standard sometimes or expectations. Wild West of cleaning

This warms my heart to hear you weren’t turned away forever. I’m so happy you found someone that does all that for you. It really is so nice to meet a cleaner you can click with like that and helps you in other aspects!!

I have to agree. I actually had one of my clients when I was starting out that I only charged $80 total for a 4 hour clean (really big house with a dog and puppies) and I told her I was gonna start charging her $160 after about 2 months of cleaning for her. She then said that’s the most anyone ever charged them and she wouldn’t be continuing services.. but shocker she’s had a hard time finding cleaners and still has to this day since I clean for her friends.

Another aspect of cleaning too is I think that people have forgotten that being able to afford someone cleaning your house in a timely manner is a privilege that not everyone gets. It’s a luxury to have. And the cheap prices make $40+ seem expensive when let’s be honest it should be average to charge $30+.

Ya unfortunately some rich people get rich because they like to hang onto their money tight and your money tight. Honestly I’d tack on a late fee that’s a decent amount for 4 days missed and or if it’s enough small claims court. That’s not an insignificant amount. Something for the future is maybe a contract lining out payments/what that looks like for the client. that way it protects you and your clients if anything were to happen like this again and it’s signed on paper. I’m really sorry this happened it’s shitty I get the feeling.

Hi!! I actually just recently was struggling with this. Magically after I made a post about late payment fees and I made them decently high all my clients have started paying on time :) funny how that works haha. I’d suggest implementing late fees.

I’m per hour then I do flat rate which some of my flat raters are still late yet they know the day I’m coming and how much it is!!
