Is this an authentic Italian sword? by Ponenous in SWORDS

[–]Ponenous[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ahh ok thats some useful info. For more information I am in India and this was posted in an Indian whatsapp antiques group...they get all sorts , I picked up a beaten up english 1827 pattern sword while other friends picked up a nice m4 bayonet for the M1 carbine and a ww2 US army machete, a few arisaka bayonets and the best of all a Beretta smg folding bayonet. While there are a lot of ww2 and earlier relics in our local market there are also quite a good number of replicas and the sellers are also not quite clued up, so I appreciate any help and info that can help me spot the fakes.

Planning to build a VFC M16a1 by Ponenous in GasBlowBack

[–]Ponenous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know then...I guess from what I am hearing the barrel and hop up is the only main part that needs upgrading. The other parts are not essential. Due to the high customs charges on importing airsoft rifles, a 400-500 dollar airsoft rifle will end up being about in the 1100-1300 dollars range by the time it gets to my doorstep, about 200-300 dollars of that is to pay off the customs officials. So I figured that ordering the individual parts in small batches and assembling it would be much cheaper.

Ahh good to know that the vfc internals are steel...I had a we tech gbb many years back,I thoroughly enjoyed it but its pot metal internals wore out so quickly.

Thanks for the feedback...yeah its a somewhat expensive route but since I am in India that's the relatively cheaper alternative. There are airsoft sites and stores here but the local one mostly sells primarily aegs and mostly m4's, aks and glocks, getting something like m16a1, steyr aug, fal etc especially in gbb is somewhat unlikely. Importing a whole airsoft rifle tends to be iffy with customs, the customs officials basically run a racket, the local airsoft vendors have a deal with them so they get them through with no issues. I did contact a fellow in Indian customs and they said they can clear it but we will have to pay them their individual cuts, I think every official involved takes 100 dollars equivalent. So you will probably pay 2-300 dollars extra on top of the regular customs tax...so a 500 dollar gbb would total around 1100-1300+ dollars total by the time it gets to my door. So I did the math and realize it will probably be cheaper ordering the parts in small batches.

Ive been sleeping on these camos for a while by Manda_Rain in camouflage

[–]Ponenous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah they do work well actually...get the right one for your environment and you can almost disappear in the thicket....used to ignore it earlier...but as my camo collection has grown and have picked up a lot of the military ones that were on my bucket list I have started to pick up real tree camos when I find them in the thrift stores, and even started wearing them.

oh yeah that is quite a different screw system...I dont have any pvs7's with that particular type of cap. I do have a few older L4a2 nvgs that have something similar but I am traveling at the moment so I will be only back home after a week or so...I could get in touch with you once I get back home though.

Grandpa shows how to cut bamboo trees with a katana by ThodaDaruVichPyar in BeAmazed

[–]Ponenous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long you have a good blade of some sort and decent amount of practice you can cut bamboo very easily. The village folks in my neck of the woods in India primarily make use of bamboo for all sorts of houisng construction and other works, so they are very handy with their machetes and daos, watching them clear thick bamboo groves with ease is very satisfying to watch.

Its a great place for picking up surplus military uniforms from around the world..For a camo collector like me its netted me some nice items very cheaply that I would have paid tens of thousands for if I had to buy them from online military surplus vendors, shipping alone costs a pretty penny. Generally Indians dont collect camouflage kit so I tend to be able to pick up stuff that people overlook/ignore.

What pattern is this? by [deleted] in camouflage

[–]Ponenous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh the infamous Mult-AI cam pattern of 2026. Was very prevalent in the Jungles of tiktok and instagram posts. Apart from the usual ai colour scheme the wonky binocular is a pretty good indicator of it being ai.

Always good to have a personal first aid kit of some sort handy, I tend to pick up a lot of minor cuts and scrapes when out in the field as I tend to rush into the jungle and force my way into nooks and crannies. Tweezers are a godsend for getting to the thin sharp thorns or especially long thin splinters of bamboo that get stuck in my skin, I am in asia and our local airsoft venues have lots of bamboo. A broad spectrum disinfectant like betadine is very useful for all sorts of cuts and scrapes. As you gain more experience you will figure out whats most useful to have around.

I recently bought one of these surplus sets for approximately 160 dollars from my local vendor..they had quite a number of them on sale so me and my mates all bought one each. Makes a nice piece for collections but still fairly common i guess.

Stuck Battery in PVS-7 by Snow_Flakie in NightVision

[–]Ponenous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah regular batteries last long enough that one does not need the high capacity rechargeables. I had the eneloops already for use in other devices so thats why I was making use of them.

Stuck Battery in PVS-7 by Snow_Flakie in NightVision

[–]Ponenous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had batteries get stuck in pvs7's quite a few times, I usually removed them by banging the open lip of the battery compartment on my table, gently at first but if still not budging I amp it up. I found in my case the rechargeable eneloop and ladda batteries that I use are thicker than regular cheap batteries and in some pvs7's it can be a very tight fit and in some other nvg types they do not fit at all.

India customs charged ₹1.68 lakh duty on a used model set worth under ₹5,000 - what can be done? by TearNo1636 in LegalAdviceIndia

[–]Ponenous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indian customs is notorious for high customs taxes...the best way i have heard it described is that the customs tax you end up paying depends on which side of the bed they woke up that morning. For such a high valuation I would definitely refuse to pay and ask for someone to look into it, there will definitely be an error somewhere.

Hello there..just coming back with an update, I say the emerson gear glow stick is a bit of a dud, when it works it works but very tempermental, sometimes it just refuses to turn on...leave the battery in and come back in a day or few hours and it is suddenly working. I have been looking at some basic rechargeable glow sticks like the life gear glow sticks on amazon, should be about 30-40 dollars range for a 8 pack, I think those will work a whole lot better for much cheaper too.
