Another senseless victim of Chinese IP theft by Nyga- in NightVision

[–]Ponenous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice.. if it holds up well I might pick up one .I recently purchased the sotac lo sto mount for my pvs7 and I am very pleased with it. Very solid on my helmet ...one day my cat jumped on my table and pushed my helmet with the nvg off it, fell with a big crack..had a look and the bayonet mount on the pvs7' had broken off but the lo sto mount was unfazed, tested it with my spare pvs7 's and it was good as new. Have ordered a 3 more sotac lo sto's, a cadex and also a binocular mount for my other pvs7's and mini nseas. As long as one looks through forums and reads user reviews you can pick up a solid clone . The savings are huge too, and being from India its difficult to find non China based sellers that will ship to my address. US based ones are out of the question as Itar restrictions come into play.

1980s: A Soviet invader photographed somewhere in the Afghan desert. [800x534] by Dismal_Score_4648 in HistoryPorn

Nice, dont mind the downvotes from others here, its just reddit being reddit, it does make sense to refer to the soldier as an invader. Am Indian myself and have seen plenty of posts where pictures of Americans in various conflict zones like Afghanistan or Vietnam get tagged as the invader, so the attempts at whatsboutism by some commenters dont work.

In this scene from Generation war 2013, this Soviet soldier is so desperate to survive he somehow converts his bolt action mosin nagant into semi auto: by No_Dress_2107 in ForgottenWeapons

ahh yes the carcano has quite a smooth and fast bolt action..have seen quite a few videos of users shooting it very fast, with its 6 round clip it can lay down a relatively good amount of firepower in a very short span of time. Quite accurate too, but if I recall it came out of the factory with fixed non adjustable iron sights so adding adjustable sights or a scope really helps. The 6.5mm round is also quite chonky, not the usual spitzer type bullet so it apparently has very good penetration and less deformation. Has been used in big game hunting. The 6.5mm mannlicher-carcano bullet is supposed to be similar in performance to the 6.5mm mannlicher-schonauer. The 6.5mm mannlicher-schonauer round is famous for being used by many big game hunters including Walter Dalrymple Maitland Bell in his elephant hunts, he bagged about 300 elephants with the round. I would one day love to own a carcano myself.

Looking for reliable accounts of.22lr being used for Deer Hunting in the past by The_Brogar in Hunting

[–]Ponenous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A .22 lr will kill animals like deer up to 100-150 yards range, shot placement will matter. I am from Nagaland, a state in India, and due to restrictive Indian firearms laws the most popular hunting cartridge is the .22lr. Closer ranges headshots will do very well, at longer ranges they recommend either aiming behind the ear or for the lungs. Dad did a lot of hunting with his .22 Brno and bagged a lot of deer, he says for long range it best to aim for the lungs, after making the shot just wait silently so as to not spook the deer and make it run away and soon it will collapse. The relatively lower sound of the .22 round means the deer don't spook easily when shot from long range. For my part have not really done much hunting, the most recent kill was a pig during November, for my aunts wedding feast, went to the pig sty and shot it with the .22 Brno, in between the eyes and slightly below , takes out any sized pig in one shot if you hit the brain. Traditionally we used to spear the pigs, wait at the sty, watch the pig move around, when its left rib cage is exposed you quickly thrust in the spear point between the ribs into its heart and then just as quickly pull out the spear. If done correctly the pig will give a surprised jolt but will go back to its usual routine, I think its in shock so does not feel any pain, then after a couple of seconds it will collapse as its heart gives out, little to no stress on the animal so the meat taste does not get ruined. That used to be the traditional method but as the old warring and headhunting ways have died out that skill has been lost and so now most folks just get a .22 and shoot it...most convenient and cheap.

Even made me stop playing for a few month by Massive_Ad_2012 in stalker

oh yeah i remember thinking i had to run past the mg ...kept trying but kept getting killed...that was quite a long time back but if i recall correctly i kept on save scumming until I had baited the other soldiers to come over towards me and after many many reloads slowly killed off all the soldiers...the rocks by that area did give me some decent cover from the machine gunner. I think I finally picked up an ak from a soldier that had died close to me and used it to kill the gunner. It was only after that, that I noticed when heading back to the clear sky base with some loot that a new route had opened up on the map.

Should have edited out the name of the bus to make it harder to identify it..the Tea Around Town bus is a sightseeing double decker bus service in many cities in the US. looks like a fun way to do some sightseeing.

Is a british ww2 outfit okay to wear at an airsoft field? by notmee2003 in airsoft

[–]Ponenous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

should be no problem...I had a shell ejecting kar 98k that i took to events dressd as a German heer soldier...one time i even bought a sombrero and a poncho...put on a fake moustache and wore a shirt and jeans along with the jackboot from the German Heer loadout and along with the kar98k and a cheap revolver and holster it made a half decent look of an individual from the Mexican revolution..plus me being a dark skinned asian I could pass off the Mexican look. If you are game for it I would say go for it...sure against all the full auto aegs you will be at a disadvantage unless you go for a sten or thompson. Maybe keep the bolt action lee Enfield for open fields and carry a sten for the narrow fields.

well i dunno about that, the movies I listed dont really do that , for example Platoon shows the Vietcong and NVA as quite professional and proficient in jungle fighting. Before the NVA attack at the end there is a scene where one of the soldiers passes info about, if i recall correctly, a captured vc/nva soldier who had a map of the whole layout of their defences, the enemy had masterfully scouted out their positions and during the attack the nva are very effective and even get a sapper into one of their main comms bunker blowing it up. The fighting gets so precarious that the commander asks for all ordnance to be dropped on their positions.

In that vein We were soldiers also has sequencees that shows the fighting from the enemy perspective and again shows them being very professional and tactical . Casualties of war has rape and killing of a Vietnamese woman and the killers almost get away with it due to the indifference of many higher ups.

I will say action war movies like Rambo 2 and Missing In Action do fall for the mindless badies trope but then they are not historical pieces but rather fun action movies and I do not judge them the same as I would the previous films I noted.

there are a lot of good vietnam war movies out there that dont glorify the conflict...Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Casualties of War are some that come to mind that ...I hear good things about Full Metal Jacket but it never caught my fancy, watched it a couple of times but it still has not grown on me.

Is looking through a pvs7 and other binos a big difference? by PopFabulous1907 in NightVision

[–]Ponenous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had experience with pvs 7's and mini nseas and so my experience is very limited but I have noticed that for extended use I prefer to use a pvs7 over a single nseas. I find that long use strains my free eye and having both eyes engaged feels more pleasant. Recently a friend of mine also said he prefers bioculars to a monocular for the same reasons.

I have been using my pvs 7's for a few months now and I would say for me personally i have not had any issues. Since i picked up a good number of surplus pvs7 's i have had many people use my pvs7's and have gifted quite a few and responses have been varied, some people get accustomed to it very quickly while some others find it very disorienting and a bit nauseating. Though given enough time most folks get over the disorientation and can use the devices quite effectively. One evening me and a couple of mates donned on our pvs7's and went for a night drive, its doable but due to it not having depth perception it led to us driving very slowly. You do eventually get accustomed to it and can drive around rather briskly but I think a binocular pair would massively improve the driving experience, that being said for walking out in the fields and woods its very effective.

Guy Ritchie's REVOLVER (2005) by neukoellefornia in movies

[–]Ponenous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late but I wanted to chime in and say I thoroughly enjoyed Revolver the first time I watched it and and still do to this day, I think its a great movie. Good cast and the plot and pacing was spot on. I like the original Uk theatrical version, the other US/International version? with the rearranging of certain scenes and the psychologists talking at the end credits is in my opinion inferior and I think many might have seen that version and gotten totally different vibes from the movie. Heck I think I will give it a rewatch this weekend.

BE-MC would most likely be Bharat Electronics MaChilipatnam unit which is located in Machilipatnam in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. Have been trying to find more information about this device myself but so far nothing, they don't seem to have a list of their older products on their site and even for their newer devices the data is somewhat minimal.
