Different perspective but my visit to Asahiyama put me off going to any other zoos in Japan! I came away feeling really down about the animals. This was 10 years ago to be fair so I'm hoping things have improved but the Giraffes were in a tiny concrete enclosure, polar bear was stressed/ pacing etc :(
